  1. The most dead-on Hawaiian White Ginger I know of is from TWF.
  2. Interesting information, Michelle. I was not aware of this issue at all. You've prompted me to do some more digging. Thanks for your post.
  3. Ya know, salt is so dense. I would definitely look for a local source before incurring shipping charges for it. There is enough stuff we can't get locally, that I try to get what I can locally to save the $. WalMart, Costso, etc have pretty decent pricing on the 4# boxes, and you can find sea salt at any of your local health food stores. Your health food stores will often be willing to order you 50# bags of sea salt, too.
  4. For me, it all comes down to personal preference.
  5. As long as it is well wrapped and stored in a cool, dry location, it should be fine to use when you get ready to start your spring/summer season next year. Edited to add: I found about 10 pounds that I had packed away a couple years back, and used it recently. It was fine. Again -- well wrapped and stored in an appropriate location helps IMHO.
  6. You may want to take a look at this thread for some supplier resources. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26840
  7. Ahhh.Aunty Jen....you must come to da islands and discover our drug of choice. We soap with herbs....but in a slighty different way. It really isn't a soap additive. LOL.
  8. Just lovely! The colors are perfect for holiday -- and yet, perfect for any other time of the year, too! Great job.
  9. No lie, Sockmonkey. What braintrust decided that they could 'pour to order' with 1000 reps in the field ??? Someone was smokin' too much pakalolo when they birthed this fair-haired child of a concept. I am sooo tired of these kind of MLM's and the get-rich-quick mentality (operative word here, 'these kind'; I'm not slamming all MLM's). Oh well -- these one trick pony companies like this just make me look that much better to my customers in the end. LOL. edite to correct my lousy spelling...
  10. I would do the same to smooth the top that I do for the bottoms of my pillars -- use an iron. Simply turn it on low, and hold your candle over a wastebasket while you 'iron' it. Of course -- this would require an iron that is dedicated to the candle Gods.
  11. I would hold to your minimum, otherwise -- what's the point of having one? KWIM? You might want to explain to them that the reason for the minimum is that it is important that they have an adequate amount of your product as an offering in their store, to make a statement to their customer. We all know the old saying, "depth of inventory drives sales". For them to have a limited number of your products doesn't make for a win-win situation for either of you.
  12. Just remember to check with your state/city/municipality on whether the name you choose is available for registration as a business. I'd hate to see you choose a URL that's available, only to find out that there is already a company with that name registered to do business in your state.
  13. I wouldn't operate my business without insurance, anymore than I would drive my car without insurance. That being said however -- there are people who drive uninsured everyday. Guess it comes down to what kind of risks taker you are.
  14. Yeah.what Jenny said. LOL. I make my brochures up in Microsoft Publisher, and upload to VistaPrint. I love the job they do with them, and 1/3 of what the local printer wants to charge me.
  15. For all the technology today, I find that I feel more vulnerable than ever before. Seems like every time we turn around some company is 'apologizing' for releasing cc numbers in error, or having them stolen. I've been in stores and ended up leaving -- instead of completing a purchase -- because I wasn't comfortable with the clerk who would end up handling my debit or credit card.
  16. You may want to check the laws for your state/County. Where I live, it is illegal to include the tax in the total price -- it must be shown seperately.
  17. Check your local health food or bulk food stores. If they don't carry it, ask them if they will special order it for you. They usually are very accommodating.
  18. Full time job here for the past five years. DH handles all the retail hours/sales (store), and I do everything else.
  19. I'm thinking it's quarterly....did you check the website? PS: how's the bun in the oven coming along? Man, your pregnancy has flown by! LOL
  20. Our retail sales (store) break out to be about 35% soap, 35% B&B products, and 30% candles. Those percentages stay pretty consistent year round for us. Fluctuation in any category usually is +/- 5%. This consistency sure helps when planning supply purchases.
  21. No..I never heard it until you mentioned it today. I've been making tins for over 5 years, and never had a problem. This wasn't by chance, a glass supplier who shared this tidbit, was it? LOL
  22. I would rack it up to one man's opinion. IMHO, a properly made candle is just as safe in a tin as a glass container.
  23. I'm with Schmoopie (did I spell that right? LOL) I like Specialty Bottle for service and price. Here's the link to their 16 oz container: http://www.specialtybottle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=235
