  1. My daughter (13 yo) and I were discussing this yesterday. She was commenting on how even though Y***kee candles don't work so great, they do have cool names (for Halloween). I happened to be making Celtic Moonspice (Aroma Haven) and she exclaimed, "You should call that 'Full Moon Spice', Mom." I have to say, I think the kid has a point. Eve
  2. Previously I tested small candle/small room (8'x10'). I feel that maybe this caused me to overate some oils and under value others. I am now testing same small candle (one ounce tin) in a large 15'x20' room. However, I am now waiting the full two hours for full melt pool before I judge the scent throw strength. I am in the process of testing 40 new oils but because this procedure is much more time consuming, I haven't finished the batch. Will post when I do. I think that this method is a more valuble tool than my previous method. BTW- if 2", 1 ounce tin can kick ass in a large room, than 6 oz, 3" jar candle is sure to surpass. atleast, this is my thinking Eve
  3. I just purchased bbw version and I must say that to me it is one of those barely there scents....tried the Aloe and Clover, as well....found it to be barely there, also. Just my take, Eve
  4. I found that their oils were strong and they did throw well for me (igi 4627) but their dupes are not close at all. Other companies provide equally strong oils and dupes that compare to original types. Also, their prices went up 25% a few months ago and were high to begin with. I do like one of their oils but have been avoiding purchasing it....waiting to see if I can find it someplace else at a decent price. They do offer other items (bath gel, lotion bases, additives, etc) which are priced fairly and are nice quality. hth, Eve
  5. ICS......Bk Apples and Orange Chiff Cake CS...... Creme Brulee, Hansel and Gretel House and Wildberry Mousse. Not one of these oils are over $16 per lb. Eve
  6. I was thinking the same thing.....why spend a ton of money on a scent like Amazing Grace...it's a barely there type of scent (even in tarts). I've used Vanilla Lace from AH (vict secret type). It threw very well (4627) but I am not familiar with original so can't comment on whether or not it is a good duplicate. Eve
  7. I loved the Atlantic Sea Kelp from Aroma Haven. I smell salt, sand, brine. My neighbor called it a "little too sushi" but I didn't smell the fish:cheesy2: Eve
  8. I was just looking over their site (hoping for a sample sale) Does anyone have any input on the following oils? Thanks in advance alegria, amazon mist, angel baby, angel heart, bayberry,, begonia blossom, berrry bundt cake, breezy meadows, cranberry fig, crystal water, dream catcher, Euc and Thyme, floral christmas, gardenia, of a woman, orchid rain, oriental seduction, raspberry tomato leaf, sea spray, tropical fruit slices Eve
  9. I tried Flickers oil of Green Irish Tweed. The throw was phenomenal. I made a small tester candle in igi 4627, 10% fo, eco 2 wick. In five minutes an 18 x 13 bedroom was filled with fragrance and the scent was actually coming out from underneath the door. I am not familiar with Green Irish Tweed, so I can not comment on dupability of the oil, but throw was outrageous. Scent was a masculine, cologne type...clean and manly. hth, Eve
  10. I didn't love Violet Lime but it did throw very well. A tiny candle did my very large bedroom. I didn't think the Apple and Maple Bourbon threw well (compared to other CS oils). The Antique Sandalwood, Apple and Clover, Asian Amber, Himilayan Bamboo, Honeysuckle Jasmine, Lavender, Hansel and Gretel, Gardenia, Creme Brulee, Banana Nut Bread, Clean Cotton, Frankinsence and Mhyrr, Sex on Beach, Pumpkin Souffle, Fresh Bread, Choc Milk, Moon Lake Musk, Golden Rose, Cranberry Marmalade and Mistletoe throw unbelievably. I use igi 4627 at 10% with eco wicks. Eve
  11. I made a tester of this and the results were just OK. I gave my testers to my neighbor and she said this one was phenomenal (best of my bunch). Maybe, I had candle nose or it needed to sit a bit (use igi 4627). I am going to retest it soon and see what happens. Eve
  12. I'm not sure either but I orderred one from WSP (recieved decent reviews) and I felt the throw was just OK. Then I bought one off the classys called Sahara from Flickers and it smelled similiar (but better) and the throw was out of this world. hth, Eve
  13. I can only speak for those that I have tested (and reviewed somewhere on this board) but they were phenomenal. When I purchased Moonlight Path and Raspberry Guava from a different supplier, I was not able to get them to throw. In fact, I purchased Moonlight Path from a couple of different places and the results were the same. When I purchased the MP and RG from ICS they were phenomenal and threw very well. I had similar results with Cuc Melon (other suppliers were so-so and ICS knocked it out of the park) Eve
  14. Shower gel is too thin. If I use 1-2% frag load, I can't smell anything......if I use 5% fragrance......it's too thin. I think that there exists a product that fixes this. Yes? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eve
  15. The wax I use for the tarts is 4786, fo 10%, no cure. the wax/wick for the for candles was 4627, fo 10%, rrd wick, no cure time. hth Well, I couldn't stop myself...just ordered the large bottle of the Atlantic Sea Kelp.......AH has terrible shipping prices/fees....oh well. Eve
  16. I am loving, loving, loving this atlantic sea kelp. Of the 28 or so oils that I tested this past week this is my favorite (atleast for now). Yesterday, I lit a tart up, opened my windows to let the breeze blow through and for a couple of hours I was transported to the ocean shore.........phenomenal. Eve
  17. I recieved two little freebies with my last order and they were phenomenal. First, Cranberry Yuzu.........wonderful tart fruity scent. My little tester candle filled room in 15 minutes. Not sure if I liked it better than CS Cran Marm, but I really did like it. It isnt spicy, just fruity. Atlantic Sea Kelp.......very different scent....I smelled water, salt, seaweed?.......very oceany............filled my room in about 30 minutes.......strange scent but I think I like it? Eve
  18. Just got these four oils off of the classys. Made in my usual fashion, igi 4627, fo 10%, used rrd's. Sahara..........this is a Sage and Citrus type.........WOW! It threw phenomenally.......blew WSP out of the water. Fills room with scent in under 15 minutes. Olive Blossom........This is a floral that I can't put my finger on......it is nice........threw outrageously........filled the room in 10 minutes. White Tropical Musk.........This was a lovely scent....light but lovely. It threw good.....filled the room in about an hour. Mystic Woods..........I really liked this scent but couldn't get it to throw. It's masculine and heady. I will cure and see what happens. Eve
  19. Okay....just my opinion. I made tester candles to test various oils from CS. Wax is igi 4627, fo 10%, wicks used lsz and rrd's. 1.5 oz candles tested in small rooms avg 10'x10'. If the candle filled the room with scent in 15 minutes it was rated a 10. If it filled the room in 30 minutes it was rated a nine and so on.... *Apple and Clover..............clean apple.....................10 Apple Maple Bourbon.......maply apple................9 (rrd) *Asian Amber.....clean, herbs, ................................10 Blackberry Marm............blackberry bakery...............10 (rrd) Basil Herb............reminded me of burning wood.........10 Choc Milk..........name says it..................................10 *Cranberry Marmalade........best spice cranberry..........10 Fresh Bread......name says it....................................10 Fruit Slices.....like a fruit smoothie.........................5 (rrd) *Himilayan Bamboo.........clean fresh...........................10 Holly Berry..........reminded me of pot?........................9 (rrd) Juniper Breeze...............clean..................................6 (rrd) Lemon Verbena..........nice lemon..............................10 Mango Papaya.........more mango than papaya..............9 (rrd) Ocean Breeze............nice water...............................9 (rrd) Pearberry................true pear...................................7 (rrd) Sage & Pomegranate..........fruit and clean ...............9 (rrd) Scotch Pine..........light to me...................................7 (rrd) Sea Mist............faint water smell to me......................7 (rrd) *Sex on Beach...........reminds me bird paradise..............10 Violet Lime.....reminds me of Octagon detergent?...........10 (rrd) Wildberry Mousse...........fruity bakery..........................10 In the future, I will buy those marked with Asterisk in lb size. I really liked fruit slices but couldnt get it to throw....I am going to leave poor throwers to cure for a while and see if it makes a difference (or if I have candle nose?). Eve
  20. Out of the second batch (I lit them tonight) the only two that I would call phenomenal would be Sex on Beach and Wildberry Mousse. I happen to have used an rrd in the Sage and Pomegranate and this candle threw very well (not phenomenal). I will retest all of the others with rrd's and soon. Eve
  21. I have purchased 22 samplers. I am in the middle of testing but since the sale ends in two days, I thought I'd post my results. The oils that threw phenomenally for me (igi 4627, 10% fo, lsz wick) were: Apple and Clover Apple and Maple Bourb Asian Amber Basil Herb Choc Milk Cran Marmalade Fresh Bread Himalay Bamboo Lemon Verbena All of the above scents were true to their name. I really liked them; just thought choc milk and fresh bread are weird for candles but I'm sure many people would like them. Basil Herb kind of reminded me of firewood? My top three would be apple clover, asian amber and himilay bamboo and cran marm (sorry....top 4) The oils that were less than phenomenal (so I'm going to try some RRD's) were: Blackberry Marm Fruit Slices Holly Berry Ocean Breeze Sea Mist All of the above were gorgeous oob so I am going to try and make them work. The ocean breeze was stronger than sea mist but still not on par with those I call phenomenal. The fruit slices is gorgeous (cold)-reminds me of a carib fruit smoothie so I would use it for tarts if I couldn't get it to throw bec I really like it. The following testers are made but I just haven't had a chance to light them yet; will try and do it tonight and post results if I have a chance: Juniper Breeze Mango Papaya Pearberry Sage and Pomegranate Scotch Pine Sex on Beach Violet Lime Wildberry Mousse Just my take. Eve
  22. Their coco peach is the strongest that I've tried. I recently tried their mango mandarin and it threw excellent and I really liked the scent alot. I also liked their sandalwood and tuberose. I've tried a number of the oils and reviewed them somewhere on this board. I didn't have much luck with lemon peel or blissful blackberry? Eve
