  1. Hi, I just got mysore sandalwood from tsw...it was spot on too but somewhat expensive (I think about $36/lb).... Have you ever tried it (TSW) in terms of comparison with OT? tia, Eve
  2. Cranberry Fig (IMO) from Flickers Sweet Amber Musk from AH Eve
  3. I got this oil from WSP. I think they nearly doubled the price (?) just recently. It is a copy of a tuti dolce mango sorbetto Was wondering if any other supplier, carries one close in proximity to this scent ? I have searched but scent description doesn't match or is non existent. Also, curious. ....what is Island Mango? Ingredients? Scent? For anyone who has smelled both, is it close to Mango Sorbetto? tia, Eve
  4. I believe that it is the nature of the oil. I know that the candle from bbw doesn't throw that well (imo). I actually had a 17 oz candle and relegated it to the bathroom because that was the only room that it had the ability to scent thoroughly. I have noticed that exact dupes (regardless of supplier) don't throw that well. I have only found that Tony's and ICS (and as I have said before, althought they are close they are NOT exact dupes) can throw. IMO, it is still a light scent, yet beautiful. I make myself tarts all the time bec they throw regardless. I guess maybe the oil "clogs" the wick.?? Eve
  5. Sorry....didn't realize it was just a day....I think my email was titled "This week at the scent works" or something to that effect. Eve
  6. I see that Geluminations has it (creativeilluminations.com) for $14.96/lb. Dont know how it is (the dupe or the original) I have used this company for BBW dupes and they were exact. I do notice that sales are usually gone in a day or two on this site. Eve
  7. I've tried many different moonlight paths and the only two that threw for me were ICS and Tony's and the two oils are identical to me. They differ slightly from bbw (which in my opinion doesn't throw that well) and I believe that is why they throw. Too strong, I guess that's a matter of opinion. I wouldn't say too strong. Eve
  8. The Scent Works has 15% off this week. Code is y15tm I am not sure if you have to be a Newsletter recipient? Oils are expensive but there were a couple that I wanted to try: Shaw Mudge Red Currant Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Vanigle de Madagascar Mysore Sandalwood After I test, I will post my thoughts. Eve
  9. I just got a sample pack from them a few months back. the one's that I fell in love with were cranberry fig, citrus balsam and summer garden. Eve
  10. I am burning oakmoss (Tonys). This is a wonderful thought provoking scent. I like to burn these types of scents when I am trying to write. They have an almost meditative quality to them (imo). Eve
  11. I just recently purchased tuberose from both lonestar and brighterscents. Both threw extremely well for me in igi 4627 at 10 % frag load....filled my whole house (one floor) in 10 minutes. hth eve
  12. OOB strength is not a predictor of scent throw. But I have found that generelly if it is real strong oob, it will also be strong if it throws. This is not an indicator or the oil's "throwability", but more a description of the type of scent it is (a strong scent). There are some that are like a hurricane oob, and just a little trickle once they are in wax (FBD's D&G Light Blue, NG's Angel are two that come to mind). Maybe 5% of the ones that I have tested acted this way. I have found, more often than not, if I don't get a real real "noseful" when I smell oob, the scent throw probably isn't going to be that strong- not because the oil isn't good, but because the scent, itself, may be a "lighter" type scent ( Brighterscents Abercrombie & Fitch, comes to mind). So, I guess what I am saying is that some scents are strong and some scents are light. Reputable suppliers, generally provide quality oils that throw. Some times they even give a rating on "throwability" in soy on their websites. In my testing experience, I have come across very few that don't throw; I have, however, come across a number of oils that do throw, but are light scents. Have fun making candles. In my opinion, the testing part is the most interesting. Smelling all of the different oils that are available is the real joy, for me. Eve
  13. Thanks for the Reviews. It's amazing how many "keepers" one can find at AH. Most of my favorites are from there. My interested is peaked in regarding the dreamcatcher and tapestry. I had good luck with NG, too....I got the bbw dupe Tranquil Sleep (plus others)...great oils and amzing prices. Eve
  14. Sweet Amber Musk Interlude You Must! hth Eve
  15. I like the testing part. And the whole time that I am doing it, my family laughs hysterical, that I'm at it again. And when I'm done, the .9 oz that I have left over gets made into a dozen tarts....that's a sight too....I think when I'm done with the current bunch that I just tested, I am going to have about 80 dozen tarts....almost 1,000 tarts! It makes me happy! Eve
  16. My top 4 would be: Summer Garden (Strawberry Rhubarb) Tuscan Lace Cranberry Fig Balsam Citrus hth Eve
  17. I just got done checking out my Flickers Fragrances Samples in Wax I used igi 4627, fo @ 10%, 2 oz jar with an eco 2 wick. The candles were small, so I tested in rooms that averaged 10'x12'. I am scoring throw on a scale of 1-10. I lit the candles and checked back after 15 min. If the room was infused, I would rate the candle a 10. If the room had a light scent, I checked back 15 minutes later, and so on and graded accordingly. OMG.......What Wonderful Oils!!! And Free Samples:smiley2: Tuscan Lace- This is a gorgeous seductive scent. It is a twin to FOH Willow Whispers (Indonesian Teak). It threw a 10! Cranberry Fig- This oil is a favorite of many.....and now it is one of my favorites as well. There is something very beautiful and feminine about this scent. It threw amazing....a 10! Maple Brown Sugar.....Sweet! Although, not my type of scent, my daughter's friend (who loves bakery scents) was wild about it. Throw was super strong...a 10. Almond Cookie.....That's exactly what it is and super strong. Throw was a 10, Persian Pear- I don't have description in front of me...but what I thought I smelled was creamy pear and maybe, banana? I loved this scent and it threw extremely well.........a 10! Brown Sugar and Fig- a beautiful scent...sugar and fig balance each other...feminine (imo)....throw again was amazing......I gave it a 10. Summer Garden----Wow...Wow....Wow.....room was infused with scent in five minutes....I went to check because smell was coming out from underneath the door! this is a super thrower....I gave it an 10 +++ Green Irish Tweed....Whoa....another super thrower 10 +++.....filled the room in five minutes. I love this clean masculine scent. I find that these clean masculine types sometimes don't have throwing power....this is the exception to the rule. Wow Vanilla Sandalwood- The throw was good.....I gave it an 8. For me, I picked up more van than sandalwood? I think I prefer it the other way around. I've tried Van Sandalwood from various suppliers and they all seem to throw about the same. Maybe it needs to sit/cure for awhile? Flowerbomb- I also gave this oil an 8 for throw. It threw well, just that the scent was more subtle than I was expecting. cold throw was very strong. I did like this scent alot; it isn't very floral imo. Maybe I will let it sit/cure for a few days and try again. Patchouli Honey- This scent was beautiful....I picked up the honey more than the patchouli. Throw was a 10. Balsam Citrus- I really liked this scent....as I am a big fan of citrus. I love the combo with the pine. Throw was awesome...I rated it a 10.
  18. Thank you! They are the same company. Luckily, I got the ten samples for $10 (they were on sale). Honestly, I was scared when I saw that I could get many fo at $0.80 per ounce; I didn't think they could be any good....but they are truly awesome.....atleast the ones that I tried. By the look of Gellumination, it seems that they may alternate the special pricing between the two sites (ie- one week brighterscents and one week Gellumination)? I don't see this company reviewed on this board; I don't get a sense that they are new. I thought that was unusual, but nonetheless, I gave them a try and I am glad that I did. I will definitely buy the Coco Peach, Lavender Leaves, Grapefruit & Rosemary, Sensual Amber and Tuberose in large sizes at some point (when I use some of what I have already). I don't even have a business and yet, I have 100's of ounces of fo....it's scary really:p Eve
  19. I just got done checking out my Brighterscents.com Samples in Wax I used igi 4627, fo @ 10%, 2 oz jar with an eco 2 wick. Abercrombie & Fitch- I do not know the original, so I can not comment on "dupability". It is a soft clean scent. It threw about a 7. Coco milk and Peach - This may be the best that I've ever tried so far. It is extremely strong cold/hot. It is a dup to ah and foh. It threw a 10. Ezra- No comment on "dupe". The scent is a soft masculine scent and threw about an 8. Although completely different, in some way it reminded me of LA&O? But throw could not even compare (AH Lav Apple and Oak is powerful!) Issey Miyake- I was expecting something similar to AH, but this is completely different. I found out that AH has eau de Issey, wheras brighterscents has Issey. It threw about an 8. Cucumber Melon (premium soy)- unlike most cuc melons, this one can throw. It is not quite as strong as ICS, but it may be a nicer scent? More cuc, less melon (which I prefer) than most fo, I have tried. I liked it but I would only rate the throw an 8. Tuberose- I really, really like this one. It is more "old fashioned" than the one from Lonestar, which (strangely enough) I prefer. Throw was phenomenal....a 10! Lavender Martini- This is a twin to FOH. Throw was similar....about an 8. I do like this scent, but it is subtle as a candle....does much better in tarts. Pales in comparison to Lavender Leaves (see below). Lavender Leaves- This is a dupe of Henri Bendel. The throw was phenomenal...a definite 10. The throw is very powerful, like CS Lavender, but there is something additional in it? Grapefruit Rosemary- I really liked this. Neither the gf or the rosemary overpowered the other...a perfect balance. Throw was super. I rated it a 10. Sensual Amber. This is a twin to FOH Amber Blush. Throw was phenomenal and the scent is beautiful. I rated it a 10. These oils did very well in my wax. Of the scents I knew, the supplier offers perfect "dupes". I have seen great prices listed on their website for larger sizes. Now I feel comfortable in making that investment and buying larger sizes. Eve
  20. Here's my list......not from a business point of view...just my personal favorites WSP's Mango Sorbet WSP Pink Grapefruit AH/RE Almost Paradise (Coconut Milk & Peach) AH/RE Strawberry Rhubarb Pie CS Honeysuckle Jasmine Eve
  21. I asked a question in the Weekly Sales Thread. I think that this thread is going to be deleted every weekend and my question will be lost. So sorry for the duplication....but I was curious about something. I bought 2 lb of Vanilla Romance from the oils being discontinued at WSP. This is the most gorgeous vanilla (imo). It is not a food vanilla---not sticky sweet. It is a musk, powder, "romantic" vanilla. BTW- I highly reccomend it. For me, 2 lb is a lot of oil, but I thought I could make a ton of candles and store them. I've read that Vanilla's can go bad. Is it true, once I put the fo into wax, it is "safe". Can the candle itself go rancid (in color or smell) Please let me know. tia, Eve
  22. Thanks for the reviews.... How would you describe the christmas pear? thanks eve
  23. Nope......... not if there's a dish in my sink. or a one ounce sampler in my cabinet. and the scary thing is that I have 20 or more samples coming this week.... and once I'm done testing, I can't just let them sit (I hate clutter)....I have to make tarts or something.... Eve
  24. I just got done checking out my Lonestar Samples in Wax I used igi 4627, fo @ 10%, 2 oz jar with an eco 2 wick. Tuberose. I really liked this scent. It was very strong....I gave it a 10 for throw. Price was very good too....I think it's about 16, wheras WSP is $32. Tuscan Herb. This scent threw very well....a 10 for sure. I've smelled another Tuscan Herb from FOH, which I felt was better....The two TH are not twins. Although somewhat different, I may stick with CS Asian Amber if I want an herb type scent. Mango. This had a great throw too. A 10! A straight mango...very true to the fruit. But still the only mango for me is WSP Mango Sorbet. Choc Chip Cookie Dough. This was a very strong oil.....threw phenomenally (10). Just as good as FOH but better price Apple Strudel. I think this may be the best apple strudel that I've smelled. It had it's own little something....it threw outrageously...a 10. Sensual Amber. This one was different than FOH. I've never smelled the original, so I don't know which is the "dupe". Still, prefer the FOH amber blush. It threw ok....I gave it an 8. This may be closer to AH's sweet amber musk (but not as good as AH) Oakmoss. This threw great. A 10. It's just like Tony's...only a lot less money. I reallly liked it. Red Currant. I didn't love this one. I'm use to the votivo type. This was more fruity and throw was just ok....I gave it a 7. Angel. This was weak. I couldn't get it to throw. I tried eco, lsz and rrd. I will let it sit/cure and check again. But I dont' have a good feeling about this. So far the only "Angel" for me is Interlude from AH. Nag Champa. This threw great for me....a definite 10! This may be the nicest nag that I've smelled so far. Lonestar has competitive prices and reasonable shipping. Just one thing that didn't make sense to me.....the one ouncers were in amber glass, while the 4 ouncer was in plastic bottle. I would prefer the larger in the glass bottle and the smaller in plastic bec I will probably use the smaller very quickly and the larger may sit for awhile....just my thought. Eve
  25. I like the NG and WSP Nantucket Briar(s)....but I don't have anything to compare it to. I know I didn't have the original Crabtree & Evelyn next to me, but I did think the dupes smelled like I remembered it smelling?. Is it the fo that changed in 2004 or the original Crabtree & Evelyn version itself? Also, how was the original different...scent wise? Would love to know....also you will have to let us know how the oil from A Garden Eastward is....I really want to try the one that everybody prefers...it must be great. EVe
