Hi So I have been wanting to make a salt bar for my son since I've been reading that it may help with pimples and he's been getting them on his chest and back. Now I seen that you want to add as much salt as oils and I want to make sure I am understanding this right I seen someone mention using 75% Coconut and 25% Shea and I have both of those so I'm good to go with those supplies I made my self a little mini log mold that holds 24 oz of oils and now my question is when I do the soap calc. do I figure out lye for just the oils I will be putting in there, so I would be 9 oz of Coconut and 3 oz of Shea and then 12 oz of Sea Salt. Sometimes I just over confuse myself so any help would be wonderful Thank you Sandy~WI

I finally made the plunge and made CP Soap
ayshapooh replied to ayshapooh's topic in Old Style B & B Gallery
Ginger Lye is what scared me too. I had been wanting to make it for the past year and I'd read all the info and looked at all the cool soaps, read all the post etc etc but was so afraid but once I did it I was mad at myself for waiting so long! You should of seen me all geared up in my safety glass, long rubber gloves shakin in my shoes, my husband was laughing at me but I made him go to bed and leave me alone so I wouldnt have any distractions. It's alot of fun and I'm glad I did it! And thank you everyone for the kind words! You'll be seeing more of me in the gallery when I master that darn swirl LOL Sandy~WI -
I looked around at a couple different sites to see if anyone had any info on the results of CP soaping -Pour Code from Fragrances By Design -And couldn't find anything on it Wondering if it changes color and if the scent stays Thanks Sandy~WI

Well I finally made the plunge and made me some CP Soap. I was so chicken that I waited until I went to the BC Convention so I could see it done in person before I attempted it. I bought a kit from BC and then stared at it all day LOL and finally did it...I now have 3 batches under my belt!!! And can't wait to make more This one is scented Cucumber Melon which came in the kit, I tried to do the swirl in the mold but it didnt get to the bottom :embarasse but it smells really good! Now I need to get some more colors because all I have is green that came in the kit and I made some Love Spell (of course) and ended up not coloring it because Love Spell just doesnt scream green to me LOL

Soy Tarts Driving Me Crazy Help!!
ayshapooh replied to Countrycandlemaker's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
Hi I actually use 50/50, V1 and C3 to make my tarts and use the clamshell packaging for them. I get frosting sometimes but I don't sweat that too much and they don't crack like V1 alone seems to do. Hope that helps Sandy~WI -
Hi Don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I am new to soap making (so far two batches under my belt) but was wondering if you could list a few of the "short" shelf life oils/ingrediants Thanks so much Sandy~WI

I think that one would be a pain to set up for a show but it is SO pretty. I have my first outside show this weekend and cash funds are tight so I found a 10x 10 tent at linens and things for $50.00 after using the 20% off coupon, theres no sides to it but I needed something for shade and it go up with no tools and comes in a carrying bag so we'll see how it holds up LOL Heres the link to it http://www.lnt.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2530699&cp=2166977.2214222.2295454&parentPage=family Sandy~WI

Help....problems with V-1
ayshapooh replied to chrisasst's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
I only tried once at making votives with the V-1 and had the same thing with the cracking happen and so I gave up. I thought of mixing alittle C-3 container wax with it to see if I could make one without the cracking happen but not have it too soft but havent gotten around to trying it yet. Just a thought Sandy~WI -
Anyone know if this one is out there somewhere? TIA Sandy~WI

I put it in the silver alumunium bottles so you cant see it but I did 6 oz distilled water 2 oz witch hazel 1/2 oz FO 1/2 oz Polysorbate 20 Sandy~WI
-
I tried the FO, distilled water and witch hazel but my oil would seperate and sit at the top , so I discoved polysorbate20 and I mix equal parts of the poly and Fo and then add to the distilled water and witch hazel and it does not seperate just makes the mix white...just thought I throw that in there in case someone was going to try this recipe Sandy~WI

Tart Warning Labels/Clamshell Wax/packaging question
ayshapooh replied to casey2's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
I started using the clamshell packaging for my wax melts. I had learned that I should use the polypro and then I went onto ICS's website since they took over Snowtops oils and figured I would order some bags and theirs says the polyeth so I emailed them and asked about the "scent sucking" and they said that is not true about the polyeth sucking the scent out so I don't know anymore what is true or not LOL (on their site they say the opposite about polypro so that really confused me) but you don't need to double bag your melts (tarts) I never had a problem with them when I use to make them that way before going to clamshell packaging. Sorry I wasn't much help on that subject, just thought I'd let ya know what I was told also :undecided Sandy~WI -
I agree Peak's Rose Bouquet smells like a real rose. I used that on my wood roses. I even brought a bouquet of roses over to my MIL house and said "Look what your son bought me" (well technically he bought them since I used his money to buy them in the co-op LOL) and had her sniff and when I told her that they were wood roses she didnt believe me til I had her touch them...she said they smelt like real roses and look like them too! Hi all! Ok I decided to order a banner and am having a hard time figuring out what to put on it. I have only done home shows and now I'm going to try my hand at a craft show so I wanted to order a banner and you can put up to 4 lines on it. I do soy container candles, melts, ornies, wax dipped bears, lip balm and just started my hands at forever pillars with palm wax...and after I attend the BC convention I am going to try cp soaping and once I get that down would like to add that to my list of products. So my company name is Schiller Creek Candle Company but I figured my first line of course would be Schiller Creek and I think I will leave off the candle company part because I want to add soap and maybe some other bath and body products in the future so can anyone help me word the rest of the banner:embarasse ..I have seen so many of you with great wording suggestion when I read the posts Sandy~WI

Do you put net weight on your product label? (Candles only)
ayshapooh replied to Terrie's topic in Business Side of Things
I make my own warning labels and put my weight on there along with my business info Sandy~WI -
Packaging tarts for family members....
ayshapooh replied to number2of7's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Before I went to the clamshell packaging I use to buy the I think 3x5 bags(not sure on exact size but something like 3x5 it's been awhile LOL) from Hobby Lobby for a dollar something for a bag of 100 ...I was a bit leary because I didnt know if they would "suck" the scent out of my tarts but they worked great and never had a problem with them. They are the Hobby Lobby brand ones not the Wilton one but Wilton bags work great too but I think those run about 4 dollars and some change for 100 so if you have a Hobby Lobby around go check those out! Round labels at Office Max/Depot?
ayshapooh replied to elitenaildesign's topic in Business Side of Things
Look up the item on their website and then call the store and they can just punch it up on thier computers and will be able to tell you if they have it in the store and if it is in stock...I did that when I was looking for a certain size label and just called the store (Office Max) and they pulled it from the shelf and had it waiting at the register for me when I got there Sandy~WI -
