  1. Nope, no hacking. I was a regular here. You'll find my posts in the archives on the old Peaks server too. I stopped for about a year or so. I still have most of my notes and remember the basic stuff, but actual techniques and subtleties need practice. And actually, it's not that uncommon for me to redo them, depending on how much time I have. I've very picky about my "artwork", any small difference can change it from right to wrong, it's just how it feels to me when I unmold them...lol Oh, as for the white and light purple... I poured just a tad of white in the top of one and rolled it around (this lilac is extremely strong and it wont make a difference in the scent). The light purple is just simply from making the draped layers in the mold with the dark wax.
  2. I poured my first container candle before finding this forum. Of course, I have an ugly round burn mark on my beautiful oak coffee table from that candle too
  3. The purple lilac ones were poured a couple times. First time was just because the color was too dark, tried to compensate for the dark orange color of the FO. Second time all the draped layers peeled off the short one, air mold and wax all too cool to bind. This time it was too hot and the draped layers melted, but I'm NOT doing it again. Tired of smelling the lilac...lol The marble is cinnamon. Most of it, including the top, didn't mix and marble enough. This picture is the best side
  4. Too funny! I tried it with the word "floaters" and only one result came up. One of Tops posts here on the board...lol Oh duh! I used Google to do it. Nevermind
  5. Very pretty! That's one of my fav molds.
  6. Daisymae - Honestly, I couldn't tell you how popular it is, just that it's my mother favorite. I've only been at this a few years and the first couple were just learning how to make pillars and testing (I have over a hundred FOs last I checked and not even half are well tested yet). I sold for about a year, but just a few here and there to family friends and co-workers and I've been away from all this for the last year or so. As of now, I have no idea what's popular or even what the hot new scents are Thanks everyone for the compliments
  7. I don't know a lot about them, but fo can take a while to be absorbed. This is an interesting thread about air fresheners... http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43910
  8. You have been given some very good advice. I don't think anyone was actually trying to ignore your melt pool question, more likely, just taken aback by the "I've made one candle and want to sell now" part. You need to know how important thorough testing is first. And the general what do I do now - There's no way all the testing procedures (besides many peoples methods vary) and everything that can go wrong and what to look for and how to correct it and etc, etc can all be put in one post. If it could be answered that easy there wouldn't be much need for a board like this. Following the FAQ's link and searching melt pool... good info there http://www.candletech.com/searchresults.htm?cx=006859900080205495750%3Ac3ifryu3wci&cof=FORID%3A11&q=melt+pool&sa=Search#993 Putting aside the safety issue for a moment (which should never forgotten) if you sell a candle that burns like crap, you wont have a business because you'll only be able to find so many first time customers. If you're serious about wanting it to be a successful business, making the best/safest burning/smelling candle should be your first goal. Having said that... welcome to your new addiction! Making candles is a blast
  9. Very pretty! but I see green color too....lol
  10. I always just stuck them in the freezer for a few minutes, pop right out.
  11. Unfortunately, if there was just one wax that was easy to use and would give the best throw regardless of FO scent, FO supplier, wick type, wick size, etc... most everyone would probably use it. Not necessarily real helpful, but true
  12. I prefer to use the same wax for both, just to help everything melt evenly. Don't know how translucent those waxes are though, I use 4625.
  13. Thanks! Not really sure what look I was going for, just that this wasn't it. Might've helped to have a better idea of what I wanted them to look like to begin with...lol
  14. Thanks and thanks The white layers are just uncolored wax. I'm still using from the "strange" cases of 4625 that I got a couple years ago, very grainy with slight mottling. It doesn't seem as translucent as the previous so that may have something to do with it.
  15. These are all Love spell. My mothers been asking for one for months, but I just couldn't seem to get into it. Now she has plenty to last a while. Colors nor layers turned out like I had it mind, guess I'm outta practice.
  16. I haven't had problems with any of their FOs, but I only have a dozen or so. The majority of my FOs I had already become accustomed to from other places and don't change unless it's necessary. Some smell similar between suppliers but sometimes they're completely different. Lavender is one - Peaks is very herbal, Aztecs smells flowery and Alabaster is in between. Not to mention each one is subjective to the nose. You may smell something completely different than me, from the same bottle, then will smell different again once it's in wax. Cruise through the FO section for a better idea on scents. There's a scent review board as well, but I don't have the link handy. There are also many new "hot" FOs out there that I've never smelled because I've been out of it for a year or so. I can't comment on the container waxes as I don't mess with them very much. I'm a pillar gal As to what to look for when testing, there's a lot of info in the Newbie/FAQ sections. Somewhere was even a helpful test sheet to record information. How long should it take to smell it in a room? Depends on the size of the candle, room size, air temp, etc. More often then not, I can't smell anything after I've been pouring...lol
  17. Aztec is in Knoxville and they are a good supplier. I drive up there from Alabama and fill my trunk up...lol www.buywax.com
  18. I agree with Deb. Choose what kind of wax you want to work with then check on local suppliers and see what they carry. Unless you have plenty of funds to blow on shipping costs, whats available near you or what you can find with reasonable shipping costs will shrink the choices. As for soy vs paraffin, they both have good qualities. It's a matter of personal preference. Personally I have no interest at all in soy.
  19. They are all beautiful! The ebony & ivory one is my favorite, very striking!
