  1. Well, I finished off the last bit of my mystery candle....it was nice, but it did do some weird cauliflower blooming after each burn. I guess that is why I stopped testing in the first place. UGLY! But the burn and scent throw were awesome! Going back through my notes, I noticed about the time I would have poured that candle I was adding coconut oil, So pretty sure I added some of that and soy too. I wonder if that non crystallizing palm from Australia is a blend of some sort to make it not crystalize? Well, I am gonna play around with both GG and CS container palm and mix some things with it to try to get the same result. I don't like that cauliflower stuff though! Have to try and tame that down.
  2. I just thought of something. Could it be that I poured it cool and that prevented the crystalization process?
  3. I agree the pattern is pretty, but for a certain wholesale customer that wants a deep solid color in their prim mason jars- this "pretty" look won't do. But I love the old tester I dug out of a box that I burned the other day. Not a lick of soot, and burned it all day without trimming. I miss those days.....I've been using 6006 and must trim to keep the soot at bay. I just don't know what wax I used, cause I didn't label that tester. I know it was palm, just don't know if it was GG or Candlewic Palm 1 (that's what it says on the bag) those are the only 2 I had bought to test. It didn't form a crystalization pattern, it just morphed into cauliflower after the first burn, so I quit testing. I thought THAT looks gross! It just goes to show you ALWAYS LABEL YOUR TESTERS! You never know what will happen and want to continue burning someday.
  4. I have done a search for an hour now and can't seem to find where I read how to make the palm wax not crystalizing. I dug out an old sample of Glass Glow and another type container palm (don't remember what it is) and know that I didn't want it to crystalize when I purchased it. So, do they make a non crystalizing palm or is it all in the pouring/cooling process?
  5. I bought these off the classies and I like them. Anyone know what supplier they are from? TIA:)
  6. I am placing an order at candlewarmers and was wondering about the warmers (shades and lanterns). Since they melt the wax from the top, does it ever melt all the wax in the jar? I was thinking if the wax only ever melts the top about an inch down how do you ever get to the fresh wax? I see that they sell those wands, but what a pita. I can see stirring a completely melted wax, but to have to dig up the softened wax seems to messy. Anybody have these that can tell me how they work? Thanks!
  7. My thoughts are that the shape of this jar is the culprit here...taller than wide. Always seems to cause problems. Can't get enough oxygen. Just my thoughts though.
  8. Does inkscape allow you to create images to file? I can't figure that out when I go to that website, lol. Maybe it's all over my head. I need to be able to send images as well, not just for label design like avery design pro.
  9. Ok, so I better uninstall the trial version of photoshop. So now I will see if there is a trial version of Illustrator....better to find out BEFORE I purchase it, if it is what I want. I want to be able to change the text and get a crisp image. My current Printshop 23 for some reason, is not printing the text very dark. When I use that same text in word or Maestro (onlinelabels.com) it is dark and crisp, so I know it is not my printer. Also, I can't get the templates from onlinelables to work in Printshop.
  10. I downloaded the free trial version of elements 8 thinking it would be a design type program. It looks like it is more of a photo editing program. I don't use photos on my labels. Is there a different version that would be a design program instead of photo editing or are all the photoshop versions for photos?
  11. Which version of Photoshop would you all recommend? I am thinking about switching from Printshop 23, so I want it easy to navigate. I won't be doing much photo editing, just creating labels, images for my website, etc. I didn't realize there were so many different versions! I am so confused as to which one to get.
  12. I got a little off subject in my previous post, but it had just happened so I was all reved up. But yep, trust your instincts...no matter how bad you want to sell or buy...in my case. But I have gotten weird emails too and I think maybe it's a competitor of mine, but I too just directed him to my website. That pretty much says it all on there.
  13. Ya, spammers/ scammers EVERYWHERE these days. I just about lost $520 on a craigslist deal. It was from another state (Vegas, of all places) and he wanted me to send him the $520 by wiring it to him. I knew nothing about wiring money, so I thought ya, I can do that. So I go to Walmart, like he told me and they want $35.50 to send it. I thought, no way, I'll just send it through Paypal for free. Well, he insists he had a bad experience with Paypal not letting him get his money out. Never heard of such a thing. A few clicks and it is transferred into your checking. So I didn't understand him....well he then made me feel all guilty and acting like wiring money was no big deal. So I was really going to do it. I talked to him on the phone, he was a CEO of a company, he gave me a link to his website, (which I thought was a strange website because there was no way to purchase any of his products and I STILL did not catch on. For some reason (the good Lord was watching out for me) I googled his ad, and up comes his listing with a warning NOT TO SEND MONEY BY WESTERN UNION OR ANY OTHER WIRE. 98% of the people that ask you to do this are SCAMMERS! I couldn't believe what I read. So I emailed him right away and said I am sorry, but I work to hard for my money and I smell something fishy. God Bless! and that was that. So ya, I almost lost all that money...makes me sick thinking about it. He SEEMED so honest, and maybe he was. But the deal was to good to be true.....
  14. So I will still have troubles with centering? Ahhh shoot. I don't want to spend that much and still have troubles with the labels being off. Is there a trick to it or another program or printer/ label maker that will get them on center? Can anyone tell me what they have that works? TIA
  15. Read this http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90845&highlight=red+hot+cinnamon We are having this same problem! Only I haven't been able to burn MC's like I would like it to for years!
  16. I am going to bite the bullet and finally purchase the Primera 400. Does anyone have any advise or tips about this label maker? My main reason for wanting to purchase one of these is because I am so sick and tired of my labels being off center. Last year I purchsed a $400 Samsung laser printer, think THAT would solve the problem....WRONG! The design program I use is Printshop and I know that is part of the problem too. Anyway, if anyone can give me any advise about the Primera- will it keep my label design centered on the label? Are the colors vibrant and without streaks? How does the ink usage compare in price to laser ink in general? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  17. You might as well pour another one from that batch w/ 6% using a CD16 too. Burn them side by side. Then decide. Hopefully, you can keep one burning for at least 4 hours (the typical burn time). Mine still turn the wax a muddy color, but I love this scent, and HAVE to make it work. I should get my CS sample this week. I'll let you know if I have any luck. Some of the Cinnamon Sticks I've tried are: NG, The CStore, KY, JS, and probably more. They burn nice, but the scent throw wasn't what I wanted.
  18. I have yet to find a Cinnamon Stick (red hot type) that will burn and throw. If it burns nice, not much throw. I have settled for just 1 oz. pp of f/o and wicking up. It still drowns out at about 6 hours, but people aren't supposed to burn that long anyway. It still bugs me though. I want it to burn strong (and keep the wax pretty) and have the best throw. Something is in that cinnamon that makes it do this. I have tried different waxes too. Still does it. MC's Cinnamon Stick is my worst trouble maker. I wanted to try CS's and just bought an oz. from someone on here. Guess I better not get my hopes up!
  19. No, you'll want to go to the baking stuff like the cooking oils and lard and stuff. It is the LouAnn brand. Much cheaper! HTH
  20. Yep, I even had a leader of the group I was having the fundraiser with ask for a donation! Like giving them 1/2 wasn't enough! All that time and hard work, they just don't understand that by doing the fundraiser they are already making more than me and than all that time and hard work on top of it- well, I said to her "If you want to give your profits to the organization instead of going towards your trip (or whatever) you can..." I think she understood then, and was a little embarressed. Did she even think before she asked that- I don't think so!
  21. Where are you located? If you are near Ohio, I have a few cases of the Joy wax (very similar if not the same as JBN 9900) I'd like to sell. I was blending it around the holidays since I was pouring in the garage and no heat to speak of, so it helped with the frosting. But now that I am back in the basement, no need for it. Let me know. :smiley2:
  22. This is a good thread! I had a wholesale customer ask (for one of their customers) if I poured the outside of the (jar candle) first, and then just filled the center with scented wax...now why would I do that?? Think about it....HOW WOULD I DO THAT!? LOL:laugh2:
  23. I know what you mean jennyjo.....I am going through the same dilemma. It sure would make it easier to have just one style/label. I wish I could help ya, but I am in the same boat and have been pondering this for at least a year now!
