  1. Very nice, how long do these have to cure before they are sellable?
  2. I make the fizzing kind, not the bubbling kind, I have a think against SLSA now, probably because I decided to smell it the first time I opened a container of it, I really should have paid attention in high school science. What Robin said is perfect, I mix my dry stuff without the citric in a large bowl, sifting them all well first. Then im mix my oil , water and FO in a jar, I add a small amount of borax to this to emulsify. I mix my wet (castor oil and sweet almond oil with a touch of water ) with my dry, then when its thourghly mixed I add in my citric, and mix like mad again, I use christmas ornys as molds, overpack them, squeeze tightly for about 10 - 20 seconds, leave it in the whole mold for about 5 minutes, take the top half of the mold off , leave it in the bottom half for another 5, when I have more molds, i'll leave them in there even longer, prevents flat bottoms. If your mix becomes to dry to mold, add a small drizzle of oil and stir in in quicly , DO NOT ADD MORE WATER. I leave them in my workshop with the dehumidifer to dry overnight. I can drop my bathbombs on the floor from shoulder hieght and they will not break, they are rock hard, but fizz wonderfully in the tub, they do not feel overly oily while you are soaking (i HATE oily bath water) but leave your skin feeling wonderfully soft and conditioned.
  3. Yup, just start your pour high and end low, I decided not to stress about getting mine all the way through, the only ones who know it's supposed to be that way are the soapers.

  5. If you really didnt put enough in there, you can melt and repour, just place the tins in the oven on a low setting until the wax liquified, empty it in your pour pot, check the temp, add more FO and repour. Average use is 1 oz per pound of wax, however some waxes can hold more, check the place where you bought the wax to see what percentage of oils it can hold. Adding too much will cause FO to seep out of the candle.
  6. I dont see why it would be a problem ,the problem with plastics is that some plastics absorb scent, literally sucking it out of the candle, glass shouldnt do this, If it did, the container candle concept would have never worked
  7. Im getting to many connections as well, oh well, off to soapzine I guess.
  8. OK, I just LOVE That little bears sweater, he's adorable.
  9. Hey, gotta do something with the few hundred of them that I have in my basement right.
  10. Nice!! Keep in mind that 4.5 lbs of wet soap = 3lbs of oils. A few have overflowed thier molds on the first batch I have the slab molds and LOVE them
  11. Oh your poor thing, hope everything works out with the soap. I use baby food jars to weigh my fragrance oils in.
  12. Try calling the Jar Store and asking them for other Canadian Distributers that carry that particular jar, when I called them for wholesale pricing, they refered me to canwax. They might know of someone else who carries them aswell. www.thejarstore.com
  13. Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate Its the stuff that makes the bubbles
  14. Maryanne, I've done the same thing, rubbing them on my arms and legs, love these melties. I also decided to sniff the leftover bathbomb mix in the bottom of the bowl today, got some up my nose, and the inside of my nose is kind of irritated, Not as bad as the time I opened my first can of SLSA and decided to see what it smelled like. You'd think I would learn. (insert sissors in this little guys hand to make him me.)
  15. Whee, I made 13 more last night and they all turned out perfect!! Im so excited
  16. Looks great, I was thinking bubble gum soap would be fun too
  17. is fruit slices. After countless batches, I finally have rock hard bath bombs
  18. Wow, you really went all out for your first batch, great mold and everything!! Most of use use a cardboard box or a pringles tube or something Grats on your first batch, it looks good.
  19. Oh Robin , hope your ok, Sounds like it's a good thing I skipped soaping this weekend, had my lye water ready and everything , just never got around to it. Grats on the bath bombs!
  20. I mainly use olive oil, I can get it cheap at walmart, and rice bran oil I find is not as affordable or readily avialable in Canada, and though I dont mind paying duty and shipping on some items, Large quantities of oil is not one of them. I did recently order some RBO, will try it out, but it is not a savings for me. The off colour bar dosnt bother me, and I dont notice an olive oil smell at 35 - 40 %. I always use 5 - 10 % liquid soybean oil in my recipie, it's a nice oil that keeps the cost down, and it's a nice oil, as Sara said, when I use it in high quantities, it does seem to make the bar softer.
  21. Yeah, dont take the castor any higher then 5%, the combo of Coconut and palm kernal will give you lots of lather, castor is pricy i find compared to these, and my bars seem to stay softer longer when i use it. you could probably even take it out all together and add the whole 10% to your olive.
  22. I found mine at a bulk food store that sells specialty baking supplies. You can also order them online, Search for Candy Foil. Get the larger squares.
  23. Ew ew ew i took it out of the bag to start cleaning it, and it is full of mud and there is little bugs in it, live ones, no way am i putting this on my lips, in the trash it goes.
  24. Yes another beeswax question, I have 8oz of sythetic beeswax, has anyone ever used this in lip balm and did it work ok?
