  1. I like cinnamon and vanilla too. That combo always reminds me of my friends home she decorates in the prim country look. So cinnamon vanilla always reminds me of prim country style. If it had a scent-- that would be it.
  2. Isn't it great! I also used the Nutmeg Ginger as a mixer to. You have to try their Pumpkin spice chutney and Cedar Garland. I love them! I always sell out of the Cedar Garland.
  3. CS does have a good banana nut bread! If you all haven't tried Fillmore Containers FOs you should give them a try sometime. They sell C3 soy wax so they test all their FOs in it before they sell them to make sure they throw well. The have some awesome fall/holiday scents: Cedar Garland (one of my best sellers! its a cedar and sandalwood blend that rocks) Nutmeg and Ginger (OMG - you'll want to drink this it smells soooo yummy!) Pumpkin Chutney ( think of a pumpkin mince pie! mmmmm!!) Christmas Tree (best one I've found since Tradewinds closed) Clove There are a bunch of others I can't recall at the moment and many I have used with success.
  4. Depends on what you notes you want to stand out. CS Macintosh Apple is very strong so if you want a blend thats evenly matched cinnamon to apple use 2 parts cinnamon to 1 part apple. If you want a fresher, fruitier apple with a touch of cinnamon blend it 50/50. Using parasoy let it cure a good 2-3 weeks for the cinnamon notes to come through. I always had to wait for cinnamon to cure in my parasoy candles. Another great mix is cinnamon and sandalwood. I use CS Cinnamon Stix and Peaks Asian Sandalwood at 50/50. In parasoy you use at 6-8% and let it cure 2-3 weeks so all the notes come out. You may have to wait longer but its worth it.
  5. Very pretty! You are very talented.
  6. Definitely scam. Notice how the email is generic in nature. Also, why would someone contact you if they can purchase candles on their own at your website?
  7. I make a blend of cinnamon and macintosh apple that sells well if that helps. That cinnamon broom sounds good. But that sounds to me like just another version of cinnamon stick or close to the EO scent-- woody. Like you, it wouldn't sell well in my area. Its got to be sweet and/or fruity or bakery blend. I mostly sell cinnamon blends.
  8. Do you have your fall fragrances ready? Wondering what others are working on for fall. What are some of your favorites? I'm listing some of mine from last year. I haven't got this year's list ready yet as I always read these fall fragrance threads to get some fresh ideas and inspiration. Here are some of mine from last year: Pumpkin Souffle and Pumpkin Pie Pumpkin Buttercream Bayberry Apple Spice Cinnamon Apple Cranberry Orange Spice Pomegranate Cider Lavender Vanilla Lace Hanzel and Gretel Peppermint Brulee
  9. I love red hot cinnamon better than cinnamon stick. But thats just me. I use CS Red Hot Cinnamon and Cinnamon Stick and blend them 50/50%. It sells great for me. I'm gonna have to try Sweetcakes version one of these days.
  10. Do you have a website he can purchase the candles at? Direct him there. Also, it might help if you can post the email. Often you can tell by the email itself if its a scam.
  11. It is time to be thinking and stocking for fall. I usually have all my fall candles ready by September for the fall shows. I make them in August so I don't have a whole lot of time not to be thinking of them. We really need a new fall fragrance thread so we can get ideas of what works and what is out there. I find the fall fragrance threads give me ideas for new scents and blends.
  12. Last year I mixed CS Pumpkin Souffle with Buttercream for Pumpkin Buttercream. It smelled good but ended up not having a strong throw. I think mixing it with Creme Brulee or a good Vanilla would work nice. Chandlerwicks and Puma-- thanks for the fall leaves fragrance tips! If I missed anyone thank you. I will reread the thread and write down the scent names to check them out.
  13. I use Columbus Foods/Soapers Choice, Essential Depot, and Soapmakingresource for the bulk of my oils. The first for bulk oils, and the other 2 for bulk and smaller bottles and EOs. I also source my local stores for oils like olive, sunflower, SAO, safflower, grapeseed, lard, etc. Wally's has a great shortening made with soybean oil and tallow and bulk lard and Louann's coconut oil. They also carry the sunflower, grapeseed, canola, and olive oils. I use ED almost exclusively for my lye. Good prices and love the packaging and fast shipping. Got one of their silicone molds too and liking it very much. Soap pops right out and the mold cleans easy with warm water. If I run out of lye I source it locally from my town's hardware store but ED has the best price for bulk lye. Sorry don't use Camden Grey or New Directions.
  14. Yes. I use the same aloe vera juice you find at the store. I get it in the gallon jug cause I soap with it a lot. I'm not good with what works for psoriasis and from what I understand some with it are more skin sensitive than others with it. I have heard that activated charcoal helps. Not sure about EOs but either the tea tree or pine tar sounds like it may help. I like the avocado oil in your recipe. I love using it for sensitive skin types. I also like using sweet almond oil but only at 5%. It just feels good on my skin. Lately I have been loving sunflower oil in my soaps. It has an extra skin softening ingredient. Don't know if it helps psoriasis but I sure love washing with a sunflower oil soap. I love it so much I redeveloped my basic bath bar to include it.
  15. I mix CS Pumpkin Souffle with Pumpkin Pie too! I don't detect a burnt smell at all. I do if I use only Pumpkin Souffle on its own. I do like the idea of adding a bit of cinnamon to it. May try that this year. But I am definitely going with my Pumpkin Gingerbread blend again this year. Now I am looking for a lovely fall leaves fragrance..
  16. I live in a tourist area and this past weekend we had a lot of them. Tourists come in waves so some weekends you don't see any and others we get a lot. This past weekend we had a lot. I love selling to tourists. They typically buy as much or more than repeat customers. I did great on Saturday and Sunday. I missed working my market on Friday thou because of my sore hip. Hard to say what sold the best as I am out of so many things I am behind in restocking. But I did manage to stock some summer scent candles and those have been selling great; mango papaya, strawberry shortcake are the winners. For soap people looking for the last of any citrus and florals I had. Also selling were extra conditioning soaps for both face and body. I had one little girl that loved my Oakmoss & Amber soap. I was a bit surprized as its kind of a unisex scent and what I would think of as an adult or grownup type scent. I thought she would want a pretty pink soap but no she loved the O&A so mom bought it for her. She was so cute. She came with her 2 little sisters and when I saw them I immediately thought of the movie Despicable Me and the 3 little girls. So adorable.
  17. The first salt bars I made with 60% CO so I know that will work. But I tend to use 75-80% CO and whatever other oils I like to add. Why don't you use aloe vera juice for your liquid? You can use Himaylayan pink salt but I would stick with the fine ground salt. Thats the same grind as regular table salt. Medium and large grinds can make your salt bars scratchy. I use the same amount of salt per oils. 32oz oils = 32oz salt
  18. I agree. It should still be good to use for soaping. As long as its been kept in a moisture proof container it can keep for years. Re PVC pipes. I have PVC plumbing. I wondered about that myself but have used my lye a couple times in my sink and tub with no problems so far. I use 1 tbs to 1 oz of lye crystals. Just pour them down your drain where the clog is. Let it sit for 5 minutes or 1/2 hour for stubborn clog. Run hot water for a few minutes afterward to flush out the drain and the pipes.
  19. Not sure what a lathe is but that is really beautiful!
  20. Glad to be of help. I was really thinking of 'prairie fire' but thought smoke would be a better candle name.
  21. Those are gorgeous Vicky! I have seen some really pretty art pieces with clay. I love your glasses. I think pillars and votives are the way to go on those. I've been trying to get into painting glasses and mugs when I can find the time. At least their is paint that can be baked right onto the glass so it is dishwasher and microwave safe. Too bad you can't bake the clay to harden it and make it permanent.
  22. I've been posting my best sellers of each week in the biz section under weekly market threads. You can check it out if you want details. This summer my specialty soaps; shaving soaps, salt bars, shampoo bars, and castile/bastiles have been big hits. For my basic bath soaps I have been selling lots of citrus especially lime blends; florals such as rose, lavender, honeysuckle, and lavender chamomile. Lately the earthy and amber scents have been taking off; patchouli, goddess, egyptian amber, oakmoss & amber. Forgot cucumber melon is making a huge comeback. I think its because I use cucumber and aloe juice for my lye solution. Seems this summer my specialty soaps are really flying. I can't keep salt bars, shaving soap, and shampoo bars in stock. Lots of people asking for jewelweed soap or a good poison ivy relief soap. I don't make those but if you do its that time of year and lots of customers have asked me about them. Hope this info helps. BTW-- welcome back quietqirl! You know your soap recipe is a big hit. People here still ask about it.
  23. This is one I have been wanting to try. Whats wrong with Bonfire Bliss? sounds nice. How about: Home Hearth Country Hearth Campfire Prairie Smoke African Veldt Body Heat Warm Embers
  24. Personally I would not put palm in tins. The beauty of palm and its gorgeous crystalline structure is seen in glass containers. Also, the wax glows when burning and you also can't see that in a tin. The glow and crystal structure are two of its top selling points aside from its great throw.
  25. i actually sell more apple scents in the fall than pumpkin so I tend to have 2-3 apple blends and 1-2 pumpkin. Daiseymae-- my favorite gingerbread FO is Honey Gingerbread from BW. I have mixed it with Pumpkin Souffle and wow! I think gingerbread spices and pumpkin spices work really well together. But the HG is awesome by itself for a great gingerbread FO. BW has some more pumpkin and gingerbread FOs that are awesome. My second fav gingerbread is Gingerbread Cookies from Peaks.
