  1. Those are gorgeous Vicky! You are so gifted! My favorite is the tortoise shell colored one with the pretty gem colors.
  2. Oh those poor horses! That must be painful and irritating for them! Hope you find a cure like you did for your rescue. Loved the pics of how his coat came back to life! Sorry Top... we got a little off topic.
  3. If its tallow derived I would love to try it in my shaving soaps! Do you remember where you got it? is it possible to still get it?
  4. Has anyone soaped Soapalooza's Bourbon de Vanille? http://soapalooza.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=9
  5. Vetiver is another I would like to try but I have been 'warned' it smells awful OOB. Well I think some EOs like rosemary, black pepper, bay oil, and eucalyptus smell pretty yuck OOB but blended just right with other EOs and put in soap they can be wonderful. BTW Moonshine I always love your stories about your horses!
  6. Which sample did you pour? was it TN's?
  7. AH used to carry the white vanilla for CP soap. Last time I looked for it it was gone. But they recommended blending white vanilla with their other vanilla for a more rich vanilla with little discoloration. So maybe try SC white vanilla mixed with another.
  8. I know that frankencense does tend to smell like a men's cologne component. I recently had an FO gifted to me that was Frankencense and Safron. I think it was from MW before they closed down. Anyway, I made soap with it over the holidays and it smelled awesome and stuck like glue. Sure wish I could make that combo again or at least find some safron FO which isn't likely.
  9. You know I always blended mine. I never used a straight vanilla FO by itself. I guess its probably because I wanted to minimize the dark discoloration and the tanish colored lather. Maybe thats why I never got a plastic or play doh scented vanilla soap. The blends and vanillas I've used that worked really well for me are Vanilla Lace and French Vanilla. One time I blended with sandalwood FO and another I blended with allspice and patchouli EOs. I usually used vanilla at 50% of the blend.
  10. You will be glad to get it when you do. It smells wonderful. Not too long ago SMR was giving away a 4oz bottle of Premium Lavender EO with your purchase. Don't remember how much the minimum was but I remember it was pretty low like $50? maybe. Anyway, I got mine. I actually like the 40/42 better and its cheaper but it sure is nice to have some extra lavender. You also have to try his Frankincense. OMG it smells so good in soap. It also makes a good blender with other EOs. I think next I want to try some coffee EO and I just noticed he had some roman chamomile. I don't remember that being there. Or maybe because of the price I always moved on. LOL
  11. I only want to try it and at this point I don't think getting it clear is my first priority. I would kind of like to learn just for the sake of learning. But also because at some point I think I would like to make my own shampoo, dishwashing liquid, and hand soap. These are the LS soaps I use all the time. I keep thinking wouldn't it be nice if I could make my own the way I want them?
  12. Okay you guys are way over my head. I am not sure where to start but I have been eying this recipe from Snow Drift Farm's formulary for a while and thinking of trying this: http://web.archive.org/web/20110811060236/http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/form_liquidsoap.html Anyway, this is something like what I am looking for. General instructions to get me started. But I don't know enough to know if this is a good basic start? Also, I don't know which method this is? When I first started making CP soap I used Miller's, Snowdrift, The Sage, and this forum to get me started. All the info I needed was on these sites. I'm kind of looking for similar sites so I can read on my own and get started on my own. I like to learn on my own time and be able to go back to the site and reread it and to get more recipe ideas when I am ready to branch out. KWIM?
  13. I just realized you had already answered my question re SP's stearic in your earlier post TT. Thanks! I don't think I have ever seen animal stearic? Is that common? What is a typical animal stearic? or what's it made from? I'm just curious. I want to make sure I can recognize it if I come across it. Thanks.
  14. I got the 10lb box from Soaper's Choice. Don't remember anything about which stearic it is. Maybe I should look again. Thanks. Just checked. It says vegetable. So that's the palm right?
  15. Aren't stearic acid and palm stearic the same? I always thought they.
  16. Toasted hazelnut sounds uber yummy!
  17. Been wanting to learn how to make it. Well, cream soap too! But just wondering where a good website with general instructions and maybe some beginner recipes is. Thanks.
  18. Those look beautiful! You really have the layered soap down pat.
  19. I feel for ya. I spilled a pour pot full of cinnamon wax on me and the floor. Only mine was colored cinnamon red. Most of the floor wax I could just scrape up. But the rest I used my heat gun to melt it then wipe up with paper towels. My counters were pretty easy too. I could scrape off most of the wax then heat gun melt and dab it up. Fortunately I always wear my candle or soap clothes when doing either as I know I am a klutz. More often than not I am spilling FO or EO on my clothes. Anyway, my house and clothes smell really nice! LOL
  20. Oh those are so pretty!! Love all your colors and swirls. That Hawaiian Honeybee sounds yummy! They all do but I think that would be my fav. I love sweet scents. I'm still looking for a straight pineapple scent to soap. I had one that faded but wow does pineapple smell fantastic in soap! You are doing the same thing I am. I am labeling and packing up soap for this weekend's market day. Once it starts I go every weekend through December.
  21. I love it too! I have a rose geranium soap I use geranium in. It smells so beautiful. I want to learn to mix geranium into more blends. Ive been thinking of mixing it with lavender. I also found an insect repellent recipe with geranium in the blend that I haven't tried yet.
  22. I use clove in my orange spice blend. Like others, I soap at room temp, no water discount, and blend the clove with other oils. So my main oil is orange 10x, followed by smaller and split % of both clove and cinnamon and allspice. I also add a little honey FO to the blend to sweeten it. The clove is really strong anyway and you don't need a lot for it to cure strong in CP. Anyway, with this blend I had time to do a 3 color swirl. So working with clove is doable if you use caution. Re tea tree. I am one of those that just can't get over the smell of it. To me it stinks. To others they like it. IDK. I still have the same bottle of tea tree I bought several years ago. I have customers ask me every summer for a tea tree soap. So its worth making it if I can learn to tolerate it.
  23. Oh yeah-- eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, spearmint. Thats my herbal bliss blend. It you get spearmint use it sparingly. It smells wonderful but in soap ends up smelling like toothpaste. So I go with 10% of spearmint in that blend. Also, rosemary and mint is a great blend. Or, lavender, rosemary, and mint. I tend to blend both peppermint and spearmint together when I use mint. Anyway, I have an herbal lavender blend I do with lavender 40/42, rosemary, and sage. Its an amazingly beautiful herbal floral blend. But I want to play with it a bit and either switch out sage for sweet basil or keep it as is and add in the basil. Another reason is I'm using the dalmation sage and I would rather be using clary sage. Anyway, those 2 (sweet basil and clary sage) are on my evergrowing list of new oils to get. Since we are talking about eucalyptus, the famous Thieves blend has eucalyptus in it. I have a copy of the blend somewhere. I'll look it up if you or anyone is interested. I have smelled the Young Living oils version and that's when I fell in love with Thieves. Its an awesome spicy, herbal blend.
  24. Look for my video coming soon to Youtube called: "Soaping Krakatoa" :laugh2:
