  1. I don't recommend this but... you could try twisting 2 wicks together to make 1 & see how that works. You can try 2 smaller wicks than the 1 wick used in tapers.
  2. Here is a pic Henery posted a while back http://www.candletech.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3885&d=1136318682
  3. Wal-Mart has cheep 5lb scales in the kitchen section, they cost about $20.00.
  4. Is the wick hole opened up so air can get in? Also the hot water is another problem, heat expans wax & cold contracts wax. Try pulling the candle out after you take it out of the freezer.
  5. Thank You I have many years experience and do a lot of tests & experiments with many different waxes, additives, FO's & techniques.
  6. Sure you can do it. You have to make sure that both FO's are Non Polar gel safe. The reason you want gel safe FO in the soy is it will burn first and mix in with the gel as it burns. The only other problem I see is getting the wick right, so it will burn both the soy & the gel. Just test different wicks till you find the right one. HTH - Candle Man
  7. Yes I did do business with them. I had no problems with their burners. I would talk to the owner (at least at that time, if it's not the same today) and he seemed very nice and great customer service. I did have problems with their oils, they are very weak and a lot did not smell true. At that time they had a statement on their site "If you find an oil better will will buy it for you" this is not an exact quote but what I could remember. I sent them the same oil from another company and they told me it has more notes than ours, so we are not going to buy it for you. I don't remember these terms being on this site, back then. They must have had a lot of trouble (like I stated above) and have since added these terms & conditions. Well after seeing that I wan't be doing business with them again.
  8. Craft store kits are way more expensive and not the quality you can get from online suppliers. Plus you will be using online suppliers anyway, so why not start working with what you might end up going with.
  9. I'm on high speed cabel and the pictures are slow to load. I also got the pop-up's, too.
  10. Here is a list of different types of plastic... Type 1 - PETE Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Soda & water containers, some waterproof packaging. Type 2 - HDPE High-Density Polyethylene Milk, detergent & oil bottles. Toys and plastic bags. Type 3 - V Vinyl/Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Food wrap, vegetable oil bottles, blister packages. Type 4 - LDPE Low-Density Polyethylene Many plastic bags. Shrink wrap, garment bags. Type 5 - PP Polypropylene Refrigerated containers, some bags, most bottle tops, some carpets, some food wrap. Type 6 - PS Polystyrene Throwaway utensils, meat packing, protective packing. Type 7 - OTHER Usually layered or mixed plastic. No recycling potential - must be landfilled. You will find this info on the bottom of plastics. The number in the triangle is the number you see above, the triangle means that plastic is recyclable. I only recomend 1-5 to store candles in.
  11. You can use Mineral Oil in place of FO. You don't need as much just 1/2oz per LB of wax.
  12. Straight paraffin wax is translucent. With the addition of additives the wax has now become opaque or white. The IGI 4630 wax you are using is a container blend, already has the additives in the wax. So now you have wax with white color in it (not really but the additives make the wax act that way). So now you are adding color to a wax that has white in it. Because of the white in the wax you have to add more color to get the right shade. About color mixing... If you add white to a color it will lighten it. If you add black to a color it will darken it. HTH - Candle Man
  13. I'm also a Graphic Artist besides a candler and use Corel Draw. I, too have problems, only with round labels. With my program I can nudge each one over or up & down. So when I first print a page there will be some that are off, than I nudge the others then print again. Sometimes I have to print up to 10 sheets until their all just right. Once it's set then it stays right. Not all of the test sheets are lost, just some that did not line up right. I'm thinking it has more to do with the printer than the program, at least on my end. I use EPSON printers, and they have great quality. So I don't know, for sure, I just deal with it when I design new round labels.
  14. If you want I can design & print your labels. I have both 1.5" & 2" round vinyl labels. PM me if you are intrested.
  15. Go to Office Depot and get a clip art program (well it's not a program just CD's you use). I have the Art Explosion 600,000 Images. It has clip for any occasion. Once you have it you most likely won't need any other clip art. It cost around $80.00. If you don't know much about graphics, or have any graphics programs like Corel Draw. Then you won't be able to change the colors in this clip art collection. this one is only $30.00 http://www.officedepot.com/textSearch.do?uniqueSearchFlag=true&Ntt=art+explosion&x=30&y=16
  16. There are wick pins for votives and larger & longer wick pins for pillars.
  17. They look great. You know you can make more of the surface chunks show? Take a knife and press lightly around the edge of the chunks, then pop the wax off the chunks. Next, with a soft bristle paint brush brush off any remaining wax crumbs. Next, lightly go over the candle with a heat gun to soften the cut areas. This makes for a much better looking chunk candle. You spend all that time cutting up chunks, you should at least expose them to be seen + the more they are exposed the better they sell.
  18. First of all, why do you want the adhesive back? You don't use the adhesive back to sew on, the adhesive will gum up the needle on the sewing machine. If you don't want to sew it on, the adhesive back is not sticky enough, it will come off the fabric. BTW - Check Hancock Fabrics http://www.hancockfabrics.com/shopping/search/searchresultsmain.jsp?fresh=1&searchType=advanced&iMainCat=0&iSubCat=0&attribute14=0&attribute15=0&attribute16=0&RS=1&keyword=velcro
  19. Those are great looking. Let us know the test results. Your photo's are great. Are you using a photo light tent?

  21. Yep, I make 3oz votives and, their so tight fitting, I have no wax left, just the tab.
  22. It is so much easier than wick pins. With wick pins you still have to use some kind of sealer, which is a mess. Also the wick pin base sticks out of the base of the mold and makes it harder to level the mold. With the wick centering tool, you have nothing in the way of the base of the mold, so you have a more sturdy mold.
  23. You can't prevent mushrooms, if your wicks have them. They do a nice job of clipping and catching the mushroom, so it doesen't drop into the wax.
  24. Any wax will work. I do add Cinnamon FO (to the scrap wax) to some of them. I package the scented ones seperate. That way they act as potpourri when placed in a basket by the fireplace, before they are used. The scent is useless when burned in the fireplace. I also charge more for the scented ones. I only make them with scrap wax, never new wax. By the time winter rolls around, here, I have more than enough scrap wax, to make what I sell.
  25. I haven't found it other than dipping the candle in candle gloss (which is nothing more than acrylic floor wax, just named candle gloss so the suppliers can charge outragous prices). With the candle gloss you don't have a cold throw.
