  1. My first basket creation...If I can get it on here, please give me some advice.
  2. I use J50 with 1/2 pint JJ and the 51-32-18 Z wick. If you keep it trimmed to 1/4" yiou won't get that soot around the jar or smoking. I have sold many of these to friends, and they love them. No complaints at all about smoking. I had some trouble with the z wicks in the 9 oz melting pot jar though. Got some black with those jars. Dee
  3. I use J50 and sometimes use just a 1/2 lb of wax to do a couple of candles. I also use the 1/2 pint jj. I use 3/4 oz FO when I do this and have no problem with scent throw at all. Hope I helped a little! Dee
  4. I'm still new to this myself and haven't tried to many waxes, but I like J50 container wax, its one pour and has a good scent throw. I can wick it and color it so I'm sticking with it. But it does get wet spots but that doesn't seem to bother anyone. Thats my opinion...J50
  5. Those are adorable jars, but do they wick like the jj or is it back to the testing, lol. I hate testing! I use J50 wax with the zinc wick, I wonder if that would stay the same in those jars, what do you think? Dee
  6. I was told by one of the best cane makers to use the wax 5055, its a harder wax and will hold up best to burning votives inside. With that wax yiu can't put it in the fridge. But you can put it in the fridge for just 5 mins. no longer! i WORKED on them for months and I found the best advice was to leave them sit in the mold overnight. I think time is the most important thing here. And also working rather quickly when you are applying the photo with the ice, get it into the water bath as quickly as possible. You can also add mico 180, I think thats the name of it, it helps with the brittleness. You can also add a bit of mold release powder to the wax. Make sure your wax is heated to about 200 degrees and heat your mold a bit too. I was coached along by Donita and her canes, and other candles are beautiful! As she told me over and over, practice makes perfect, and she's right. Hope I helped a little, if you have any other questions you can PM me if you want. I'd be glad to help, Dee
  7. campfire came from makesscentscandles is ohio, I haven't lit it yet, but boy is it strong. Smells exactly like a campfire going on here. Where's the marshmellows? Dee
  8. If your wax is getting on your container you can just wipe it clean. Pour slowly and steady, that helps. I pour at 150-160, but that is with my J50 wax. Keep parcticing and you'll get it, and don't be afraid. I was intimidated by the wax in the beginning, but I'm better now.
  9. Hi, I'm still new myself, been at this since April. You will most likely get addicted like the rest of us, so good luck! I use J50 and its a single pour container wax. They suggest that you start with one kind of candle and perfect that b4 you move on. And test, test and more test...to find the best wax and wicks for you. What type of candle do you want to make? Some of the experts will answer your questions, just give them time and welcome aboard! Dee
  10. I just poured one...campfire...its different! Smells just like a campfire burning, ready for the marshmellows and camp songs. I'm thinking it needs something, like add toasted marshmellow to it. Just a thoought
  11. I use that really hard wax...5055..for canes. But you do need a spray either silicone or Pam. And the time frame is very important also. When I leave mine longer they come out much easier.
  12. Just to add, from Donitas advice, practice makes perfect and once again she was right!
  13. I have been practicing hurricanes for a few months now, what wax are you using? I found it best when you leave the wax to set in the mold overnight. And are you using pam spray in your mold? And make sure your mold is really, really clean. I've been told by the experts here, if you have to "pull" your hurricane out of the mold, it is NOT ready to come out. It shouold slide out easily. And depending on what type of wax you are using, be careful with refrige time. Hope that helps some, I'm still new to this myself. Dee
  14. This is my 1st holiday season making candles and here is what seems to be favs with my frineds Christmas Splendor Autumn Harvest Drifting leaves Apple cider Hot baked apple pie and anything spicy
  15. My boy friend likes Christmas Splendor, tho he says it smells like juicy fruit gum, and he likes toasted marshmellow. He doesn't care for any of the to sweet scents. And he hated campfire!
  16. Hi, do a search here at the top of the page, put in glitter candles and a bunch of stuff comes up, hope that helps! Have fun, Dee
  17. I'm new here myself, but I had at times burned a candle right after it was solid, and my guess would be that you wouldn't get the full FO, because it hasn't had time to cure a bit. I found that they will burn ok, but not to great of a ht. Just my opinion! :rolleyes2 Dee
  18. I've only been making candles since April, and I use J50 and Zinc wicks. A friend of mine said her candle wick got testicles after burning for a while. So I told her she had a boy! But she could make a female by trimming the testicles and get a better burn. It kinda' became a joke here. I've tried different combos and got more soot, but no complaints about my JJ and J50 with the Zinc wicks. But don't you find when you make a really good candle, it becomes your "baby" and you want to take good care of it. When I make one that I'm really proud of, it IS my baby! bUt I agree, if you don't burn them properly, you will get soot. So lets add to the label...PLEASE KEEP WICK TRIMMED AT ALL TIMES...and solve OUR problem. After all, our candles are perfect, now only if you customers would do your part we would have a happy little candle world! :highfive: WORKIN TOGETHER sound good? Dee
  19. has anyone ordered clear labels from labels by the sheet? If so what do you think? Dee
  20. I'm just curious about this....It seems to me that the JJ are the easiest to wick and work with in all aspects. I tried the 9 oz melting pot jars and could not get them to wick to my satisfaction. I use a 1/2 pt. jar from MSC that is just like a JJ without anything on it, just plain glass but the same size as the JJ. Anyone have a favorite, easy to wick jar? I use J50 wax, and I think I'm staying with the MSC jars...forever! After all the testing I did with the melting pot, unless I can find one that works. Dee
  21. I'm placing the insert into the mold and then placing the leaves around and then pouring slowly and leaving the insert in place, putting it into the water bath and raising the insert slowly
  22. snow

    Hayride

I mixed campfire, toasted marshmellow and fresh cut grass, its curing in a baggie on q-tips, but I think its smelling good. I also have curing the 1st 3 ingredients and added pumpkin to one and apple cider to the other. Can't wait to see which one will be the best!
  23. I bought a mold and insert to make a cane with fall silk leaves, well when I did it, the inside of the cane looks better than the outside, so I need to know how to get the leaves closer to the outside of the mold. I hope that makes sense. Maybe I'm not putting enough leaves, could that be it? It's like the insert is not pressing them against the mold enough. And I bought the recommended size insert for the mold, and I'm using 5055 wax, like Donita said to do for canes. I e-mailed her but I don't know if she has her pc yet. Thanks for your help, Dee
  24. I want to experiment with a scent to call hayride, I'm thinking of mixing campfire, toasted marshmellow and fresh cut grass (just a little), or campfire, toasted marshmellow, apple cider and the grass. Maybe campfire, autumn harvest and marshmellow. Any suggestions? I want to play around with this tomorrow, I'll let ya all know if it works out. Dee
  25. Are you testing hurricnes? Did you put anything on them? Photos or something embedded? Is an everlasting piller the same as a hurricane candle? I'm not sure. I'm still pretty new to candles, so I was just curious. I make photo hurricanes and I test to make sure nothing is getting to hot or melting on the inside. Dee
