  1. It came out pretty decent. I needed to heat gun the sides a bit more to make it smoother, I'll test it tonight for burning. Can you use color blocks I'm wondering, maybe put some in a little wax to add to the cooled wax? Would that work? And can you do 2 colors, I will be playing with this all week end, the fun just never stops! Thank you !!!!
  2. I'm trying one right now, as we speak. Hope it turns out ok and I'll let you know. Thanks for your help! Dee
  3. if you want to add FO, do you do that as you normally would? And then when it is cool enough remove from the mold? And do you poke release holes while drying? Thanks much!
  4. I want to try some marble candles using fall colors, I did a search and can't really find instructions clear enough for me to try these. Can anyone tell me a good place to start this search? I'm understanding that you let you wax cool down and then add colors, is that right? And then put in a water bath>? Is that correct? Please help me....I've never tried these but they are so pretty. Thanks so much....Dee
  5. I got an order from Makes Scents Candle and was testing new FO;s. The candy cane was awesome! Drifting leaves is good, not real strong but real clean and criisp smelling. Pumpkin spice, another good one and hot baked apple pie. The only one I didn't care for was Witches Brew. Got more testing to do, but Makes FO's have a good strong throw! Just thought I'd let you know. Dee
  6. Hi all, I have tried and tested aeverything in the 9 oz melting pot jar, nothing works to my satisfaction. I used J50 and JS123 (not mixed together) all types of wicks, and cant get it right. But there doesn't seem to be a big difference in any of my ttesting, none of them are just right though. The only thing I didn't try is two wicks. Can someone please tell me what size wick to start testing with using two, please. I want to stick with J50 and zinc wicks. I'm still pretty new to this and never tried double wicking yet. I like these jars and wanted to use them xmas candles, but may be xmas 2008! tHANKS SO much for any advice. Dee
  7. thanks Brenda, I think I'll try that wax next. I have never used soy I'm kinda' new at this yet. I'm getting used to the wet spots, but the finished product looks so much better w/o them. I like sticking with MSC cause I love their FO's. They seem to be strong and throw well. Keep us posted on your testing! And again thanks...next time I order I'm going to try the 123. Dee
  8. Hi all, I have been making candles only since April, but I was thinking about trying my hand at some lotions. I'd just like a starting point. Is there a good site that tells you what you need and how to do it? Somewhere down the line I'd like to give it a try. Thanks so much, Dee
  9. I use makes scents candles in Ohio and it is awesome, strong peanut butter. I sell a lot of it. Its just like opening a jar of peanut butter! iT'S GREAT!
  10. I just got MSC300 and burned a candle last night with that wax. I used J50 all the time. The MSC 300 was close to J50 but I think I need a different wick in this wax, I used 51-32-18 Z, thats what I used in J50. It had a good hot throw (300) and it set up nice but I didn't see much difference in wet spots, maybe the 300 had a few less. The JS123 I thought was a very pretty wax, no wet spots, looked great in the jar but I couldn't get a good throw from it. Any comments on thiss? I deal with Makes scents in Ohio and I love their FO, most are very strong and throw great for me. Thanks, Dee
  11. I just poured 6 candles testing out the MSC300...so far so good! Easy to work with, not as soft as the J50. Its also from Makes Scents. They smell pretty good already out of the jars, haven't burned one yet. The J50 has a great hot throw I think, hope this 300 has as good a throw. I'll let you know. Dee
  12. I use the J50 from Makes Scents candles in Ohio. I have always had wet spots. Now I am going to try Makes Scents MSC300, supposed to be less wet spots but I just got it yesterday. Gonna make some today and try the new wax. I find the J50 has a great scent throw but does not make the prettiest candle due to wet spots. JS123 made a good looking candle with no wet spots but I couldn't get it to throw, so back to J50. I also got a new case of J50, haven't tried it yet. I will post on the MSC300 in a few days.
  13. I have been using J50 and tried JS123. I get a lot of wet spots with J50, none with JS123...but J50 throws much better. I deal with makes scents candle co. and they have MSC300 to replace J300. Does anyone know about this wax? I have only been at this since April and dont know alot about all the waxes. Is it similar to J50. The description says it totally releases from the container for less wet spots, is that a good thing? It seems like if it totally released it would rattle around in the jar, but I dont know. May be a dumb question, huh? Any help would be appreciated, thanks much!
  14. Check out this web site makesscentscandles I read something there about the J300 and MSC300. Dont know for sure if this will help. But take a look!
  15. I tested and tested with JS FOs and got hardly nothing, I also tried the JS123 wax and even tried some Js in my J50. It threw a little better in the J50, but the best FO's and strongest I have found are from Makes Scents in Ohio. And I'm sticking with them. I did like the look of the JS123 wax better than the J50, but the J50 throws much better.
  16. I had pumpkin nog from JS, loved the smell but I couldn't get a good strong throw.
  17. Does anyone use this supplier? If so....got any good Holiday rec? I've used some of their Fo's and find all them to be good and strong, great throw in J50 wax, but have no idea on Holiday scents. Thanks
  18. Has anyone used any Makes Scents xmas fo's? I want to order some and just was wondering since I was not making candles last xmas. I think their scents are good, I get a real good throw with them and I'm going to stick with them, I was trying some samples from other co. but I'm going back to where I started. Any rec. would be helpful for the holidays. Thanks so much, Dee
  19. I have been testing with JS FO and JS123 wax and I can't seem to get a good throw. I also used J50 and it throws better in that wax, but not as strong as I would like it to be. Other FO seem to throw much better for me, but I'm still testing for that perfect match!
  20. I cant wait either to see the end result, but I learned from the best on here! I use the 5055 wax and did everything she told me to do. And waiting over night really did the best. That way you don't get any smears on the photo or chips or scratches. I have reuturned several to the melting pot myself. But I am getting better with tons of practice. Good luck to ya! Dee
  21. I'm still new to this, but with a great teacher here I learned to leave the candle in the mold over night....makes it much easier to get out of the mold. Mine came out much better when I did that! Hope I helped a little!
  22. I'm pretty new myself. I found that the J50 has a very strong HT and CT. I use the zinc wicks with that wax, but it isn't the prettiest candle, lots of wet spots and just doesn't seem to color real good. I tried JS123...it looks beautiful in the jar, no wet spots and gorgeous colors but not a good scent throw. I can't seem to wick it properly either. I'm thinking about mixing the 2 waxes and see what I come up with. Maybe this week end I'll give that a try. My candles burned very clean with the J50, no wax on the sides and burned good all the way to the bottom, just not satisfied with the general appearance. It gets so confussing and frustrating ...Don't know what do to next! Plus I bought new jars, melting pot jars and can't get them wicked right no matter what I try! Oh well...keep on testing I guess. Dee
  23. Hi and welcome, I'm still new myself. There is a lot to learn here on this site. It's not only the scent or the supplier, but the wax and the wick and how hot you pour and add your FO. Also it depends on your location for shipping prices. I haven't tried a lot of different places yet. I am in Ohio, so I try to find suppliers close by. Makes Scents is here and I always get a good throw with them, Just scent also, but I am having trouble getting a good throw, but I like how the FO's smell if I could only get them to throw in the wax. I'm sure someone on here with more experience will add to this. Each scent is also different tooo, some are way stronger than others. Good luck and enjoy! Dee
  24. I bought jars from the jar store and their shipping is high, for me. Now I can't get them wicked right. I have tried everything. I bought the melting pot jar. I like the jar, but I'm thinking I wont be able to use them.....darn! But I'm new to all of this, that could be why. Dee
  25. Hi all, I have been testing and testing with JS samples and JS123 wax and I can't get a good hot throw, dont know what I'm doing wrong. But I was thinking about ordering JS50/50 and I want to get some FO today whhile the sale is still on. I normally usse J50 but I like JS wax appearance much better, please help so I don't ;miss this sale. Thanks much...Dee
