  1. when I do my canes I usually start with 3# of wax, that way I know for sure I will have enough to cover whatever photo I am putting on it. I've done it before with less and ended up with not enough, so with 3# I'm sure I have it, thats for a 5X6 mold. HTH
  2. I have been having trouble lately with wet spots, really bad! Some of the candles look down right ugly. I have to heat gun them and all these little bubbles come up from the bottom, that never happened to me before. I'd get some wet spots, but they were bareable, these are not. I have tried everything and nothing is helping. I thought maybe it was a bad batch of wax, but I tried that other batch and still the same. Any body ever go thru this? Any ideas....I will try anything. I'm doing everything the same, just can't figure it out. HELP ME, PLEASE.....
  3. I use Astorlite J50, I had some issues with this box I'm using now, but I'm working on that. I got a new case to see if the older case was bad, when I checked the batch # the new case said...Paraflex 4636afcpu Under that it had Astorlite J50. I've never seen paraflex on the box before, have any of you? I'm gonna make a candle out of it and see if its the same as the other. Just curious what this means.
  4. someone gave me a coffee can full of silicone, can I use that to stick the wicks? Or what can I use it for? Any ideas? Thanks
  5. I know I'll eat way too much and I love it! Hope you have a great day too and eat all you want....
  6. I ordered some patchouli from Peaks, never used this before. I use J50, 51Z wicks and 8 oz jars. I read somewhere you have to wick up with this scent, true? I normally add 1.5 oz FO, and I know I'll have to test, but what do you all do with this patchouli? Thanks for you help, Dee
  7. I know silicone is used for making molds, but you can buy silicone spray for mold release. I don't want to make molds, I have enough problems, but its free and I just wondered if it could be used for anything else. Maybe somewhere down the line I could try to make a mold but for right now I don't see that happening. But thanks for that web site, I did check it out. Maybe I could just sell it, who knows.
  8. someone is going to give me a container of silicone, I haven't got it yet but what can I use it for? It's just pure silicone, I guess. Thick liquid she said. Can you take some on a rag and use it in your molds like you do spray? I have no clue what I can use it for. But I'm sure some one will have some suggestions. Is good for something? Thanks so much!
  9. Hi all, I'm thinking of adding some aroma therapy to my line. Heres what I was going to do...from Bitter Creek (all on sale) In the mood, Peace of mind, Sweet Dreams & Bright eyes. Anyone have any info on any of these or something better? Any suggestions? Thanks, Dee Oh and do you charge a bit more for aroma therapy scents, I see they usually cost more, the FO I mean.
  10. Thanks for clearing that up for me. It says on the Makes Scents web page that you can use it to help J50 adhere better to the jar, ever hear of that or try it? If so I wonder how much you'd use pp.
  11. I use this for hurricanes, is there also a Micro and what is it used for? Thanks
  12. I have been testing adding soy to J50, does it matter what type of soy I use. I am thinking of ordering some scents from Peaks, can I try their soy or should I stick with the soy I've been using from Makes scents. I figured if it didn't matter I'd order some soy along with the FO. :undecided But I don't want to get all messed up with a different type, what to do! And if its ok, what soy wax would I try? Thanks so much!
  13. I need to order 5 scents from Peaks, I'm going to try the Patch....what other ones from Peaks are a must have?
  14. well....I think I'll order another bottle of patch, what are your suggestions on the supplier. Who has the best patch, I use J50 wax.
  15. I didn't wick up on the patch candle, maybe I should try that. I burned one last night at my place of work and no one could smell it. I'm a bartender at an Eagles club. It seemed to burn good tho. But I don't smell it that strong OOB either. I think I'll try another supplier for this one. I might just like it since I'm from that era. One more question....I was thinking of adding a few aromatherapy candles to my line, any suggestions on that? Thanks, Dee
  16. Ok, I did a search on here and found its a love/hate thing. I had a customer ask for it and I got some, tried it and can hardly smell it! I'm not familiar with this scent and I should be because I am an old hippy, dont know how I missed it. Is it supposed to be strong? I mixed it like I normally do in my candles, but we can't smell it, whats wrong? Maybe I need to try Peaks. Any advice?
  17. I'm in a little town called Dillonvale, near Steubenville and across the river from Wheeling WVa. About 2 hrs from Columbus. Thats why I try to use Makes Scents near Columbus for most of my supplies.
  18. Sheryl, where in Ohio are you? I'm in Ohio also. I have been adding soy, but not nearly enough. Can't wait for tomorrow now to try it. This candle making is so addictive.....and FUN! I love it, and sleep, what is that? :rolleyes2
  19. I was told by my distributor to add soy to J50, he said 25% soy to 75% J50. I don't want to sound stupid, but just to be sure, can someone tell me how much that is? Like for 1 #, I'm not good at that and I've never added before. And does that change the burn or wick or anythhing like that? Thanks so much.
  20. I pour at 160, I've tried heating the jars and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference, what do u do?
  21. I use the J50 and I love it...but get a lot of wet spots with it. Someone told me to add some soy to it, does anyone do this? And if so, how much do you add and does it help? What do you do, thanks, Dee
  22. I recently bought some color crystals from Makes scents candles and those colors are much more vibrant than the blocks or the liquid. It doesn't take much to get a good, rich color. I haven't tried the red yet, but the green is great and also the burgandy and brown. I like them!
  23. I am trying to deal with this guy to get some candle trimmers and dippers. This is what he wants to charge me. Trimmers (4 or more) 9.95 each and dippers (my price) 3.69 each. And his shipping on that is 15.59, what do you all think of those prices? Sounds high on shipping to me. He is in AR and I am in Oh. Thanks, Dee
  24. what color is Love spell, I did mine a pale lavender.
  25. I see a lot of people use that 70/30, how is it compared to J50? Anyone know? I wonder if it wicks and acts about the same, just curious. I get a lot of wet spots with the J50 but I like how it handles and wicks and throws.
