  1. Yep, I use a brand new pump so there is no cross contamination, and so there isn't any leftover residue from the last base getting into the new base, or if it's not clean enough, yada yada yada... Just makes it easier and makes me feel better knowing I'm using a brand new one. HTH
  2. If you didn't scent it and burn off all the scent, it should be fine. I would just let it harden back up, then remelt at the correct temp, make a few votives (or whatever you were going to do with it) and scent and color as usual, and then test them.. I'll bet they will be fine. HTH
  3. I can answer 1,3 & 4 lol 1) You want to put the lid on when the candle is completely cool. Before that and you could get condensation from it being too warm when the lid was put on. 2) I don't use 223, so I don't know why the sink holes, sorry... 3) You want to raise the temp for scenting purposes. If you put the scent in at too low of a temp, it won't incorporate with the wax well, and you could end up with scent pockets.. (since you soap, you know what that's like!! lol) 4) If you are JUST testing for wicks, you can light it up as soon as the candle is completely cool... If you are testing for scent, and this answer is debateable and everybody does it differently, but when testing for scent I usually wait at least 2 days. most of the time 3.. I never wait longer than 3 days. I figure if it isn't gonna throw in the time I make it and ship it to a customer, I don't want that scent.. HTH a little.. For more specifics, just keep reading, researching and testing..
  4. Ordering supplies, doing beeswax luminaries, a couple picture hurricanes for some orders, some marbled pillars (again for orders) then after the orders are all poured up, I GET TO PLAY!!! :yay: I bought some of peaks low mp pillar wax to put in my vats so I get to do some carving this weekend!! That's about it for me.. Plus, (nothing to do with business) we are going to a harvest festival that is always fun every year.. The kids love it, and I love seeing the kids have fun, so I actually have a decent weekend planned.
  5. I have 3 prestos. 1 with a spigot and 2 without. I NEVER use the one with a spigot anymore.. It was more of a PITA than it was an asset.. The valve would always get stuck, so when trying to open it, I would slosh wax around, sometimes I would forget to close it - lol - and come back to lbs of melted wax on the floor under the spigot, trying to get it closed in time to get just the right amount of wax in the pour pot.. OMG what a PITA!!! I HATED IT.. I will never use a spigot again, and plan on getting about 3 more prestos. One for each type of wax I use.. Container, votive, pillar, hurricane and beeswax.. NEVER will I use a spigot again... ugh..
  6. That looks cool. Can't wait to see cut pics!!
  7. LOL I picked 1000-5000.. I think it was right around 3K before I sold my first little 5oz candle for 5 dollars.. lmao So funny, I thought I had hit the big time when I got that first sale!! lol (and yes, I have one of the dollars framed and hanging in my shop!) I'd like to know how those that only sold up to 300 did it!! I WISH that's all it cost for me to do all my testing I needed to do before selling.
  8. Unless you are using soy/vegetable waxes, then the fl ounces is right about 18.
  9. That's awesome!! I love the way it looks.
  10. I guess for me, since I can drive literally 10 minutes either from work, or home to pick up my wax, I don't mind using different waxes for my applications. Might be different if I had to have it shipped in. But I'm spoiled, what can I say?? lol
  11. I have been eyeballing that set-up for about a year now, but no, I haven't tried it. I was gonna use it for my dipping/carving vat, but my hub bought me a whole set up so I'm set there.. I did get me a turkey roaster last year for Christmas (the ones a walmart that hold about 22lbs of wax) but I don't use that much anymore.. Not as much as I did when I first got it.
  12. Yes, that's what I'm saying. Although I haven't tried their votive blend yet, I'm sure it's nice. So far I've tried their pillar blend, the low mp straight paraffin (for carving) and the container blend. All have performed very well.
  13. LOL okay, let's see.. there are several places on the web you can get wholesale tart burners. Everyone's opinion is different of where they get them. There's Jackel, Levine, Early American, etc., etc.. Just do a search. You can either sell them seperately or as a set, or both.. Your choice on that.. And typical rule of selling is your cost x 2 for wholesale, and your cost x 4 for retail.. Sometimes though, depending on what your cost is you have to just wing it and do what the market will allow.. Good luck.
  14. My hub did my spigot. It didn't splatter at all, I just found it to be in the way, and a PITA when trying to turn the valve to open it. Just much easier and faster to pick the pot up and pour the wax into my pour pot. (no splatters or spills that way either! lol) I do 6lb batches at a time. Takes about 15 minutes to melt the wax, pour it in the pour pot, color and scent, then pour into the waiting molds/containers. Good luck whatever you decide!
  15. all I do when mine are glued on with silicone is take some pliers and pull and twist at the same time. Works everytime, and I don't have to worry about a hot jar. But all of these suggestions should work just fine.
  16. You're welcome. I really love it for Pillars, and having it granulated is NICE!! I'm gonna be getting some of thier votive wax (which is also granulated ) here as soon as I collect my check from my wholesale acct. tomorrow.
  17. I have 2 from him (bought an extra one as a back up) have been using the original one for 3 years now, and it's still going strong. I haven't even opened the other one yet. I would go to his reg site that Robin posted and call.. His customer service was top-notch when I bought mine, but that was a long time ago..
  18. I have 3 prestos. Love them.. (I actually need to get 3 more for my different applications I do!) debscent, why not just melt your top-off right there in the presto? Then you can just wipe clean after you empty it. This is what I do, but don't have the spout. Had it in one, and found it to be more of a pita than an asset, so I don't use it.
  19. Well, I tried their pillar wax for votives, and to be honest, I did NOT like the way it burned in the votive holder. A 44z seemed way to small of a wick for a votive in that wax and I will not go up bigger than that in a votive. The throw was GREAT in both the pillars and votives I made with the pillar wax, but I really don't like it for votives. I know this didn't answer your question, but that's my opinion none the less.. lol
  20. And then with the shavings you can make laundry soap!! To me it looks like watermelon salt water taffy.. I like the way it looks color wise, but I think everyone is right. From the looks of it you can cut it down a bit and use them as samples, filler, or guest sized soaps.
  21. Call or email Alan or Nachelle. They might be willing to send some to you.
  22. HOLY COW!! Yes, that is very expensive.. sudsnwicks posted where I get mine. Riceland Corp. They have it for 6 gallons for $35.00 and shipping to me is aprox. $10 as well..
  23. I use frame holders that I've gotten from Wal-Mart in the craft section.. I've heard of some people using a box filled with beans too and that works for them.. Good luck. HTH
  24. Mine did develop wet spots after about a week, but that is typical, and I expected it. Wet spots in most container wax is just the nature of candlemaking, and I've learned long ago not to be too concerned about them, as most customers do not even notice them, unless WE point them out to them. IMO this wax is preforming BEAUTIFULLY!! And I'm sticking with it.
