  1. Well, Bruce. It was your candle that you posted, what about a month ago? that gave me the idea of this. I didn't do the grubby/rustic texture to it (wouldn't have had time anyway.. I'm slow!! lol), or the candy cane on the swirls, but I'm happy with it.
  2. Total dipping and carving time was about 15-20 minutes. I love carving, but don't get a lot of time to do it, so I'm not as good as I would like to be.. Eventually maybe..
  3. I actually like it and it's the first carved tree I've tried. Please ignore the mess around it.
  4. Couldn't you just snip off the base? I mean granted that would mean you couldn't use that wick pin with another mold the way you would with a reg. wick pin, but I had my hub snip off almost all my bases of my wick pins, because most of my molds are flat tops (or bottoms or whatever!! lol) and then I just put them in the mold in the wick slot and tape off the wick hole... Soo much easier than messing with putty and making sure it's not gonna wobble and a whole lot of other problems.. If your corn cob mold is one of the plastic molds, all you would have to do is tape the now rod to the mold and it would still be centered, if not, then you could use a WCT.. (which I have a ton of and that's another reason I have my hub snip the pins!) HOpe this makes sense, but that's how I do it.
  5. I think it's more of a density thing. MP is more dense than CP and therefore is more compact/smaller.. Kinda like a lb of feathers vs. a lb of brick.. The brick will be smaller because it is more dense than the feathers..
  6. Well, the actual *weight* is going to be the same whether weighed in solid or liquid, as opposed to volume vs weight, so it's a matter of choice at that point. And yeah, I find it easier to weigh them in solid form..
  7. It is. lol I thought I had grabbed a 30 fb wick, when I actually grabbed a 24.. So I have to start my testing over with a new candle, and when I figure which wick to use, I'll switch that one out and finish burning it. Thanks everyone.
  8. This is just an opinion, so I'm not sure if it will help or not. But I would say yes, it would affect the burn because, in higher elevations there is less oxygen than in lower elevations. I do know it affects peoples breathing, cars exhaust and such, so I would assume it would affect the burning of candles.
  9. Yep, I use the same thing.. They work better than anything else I've tried and spent money on..
  10. LOL I knew you'd chime in sooner or later Bruce!! thanks!! I believe that's where this glaze is from.. Either Candle Wic or Pourette... lol I can't remember, because I had my sister buy it a year ago.. I'll try the water and see if that helps. Thanks again...
  11. I tried fixing it. I thought you would be able to just click the link in the text.. ?? sorry. Hopefully this is better.
  12. Exactly.. I didn't think it was gonna be too hard to figure out. lol The blue ones are a mix of Ocean scent and Moonlight Path and a touch of vanilla.. I call it Moonlit Beach. They are actually a nice sky blue color, but it's not coming through in the pictures..
  13. Using Peaks new low mp straight paraffin, with no additives. I used .5-.7oz of FO per oz and poured between 150-155.. LOVE this new wax.. The throw (both hot and cold) are GREAT!!
  14. Does anyone know what to use? I've heard de-natured alcohol, but I don't want to ruin the glaze as this stuff is expensive.. If anybody knows, I'd appreciate it.. TIA
  15. Either that or she used a kitska(sp?) knife.. It's like a wood burner tool, but you use it on wax to carve with. Then it was probably painted...
  16. My goal is to always tolerate ZERO sooting, or at the very least, a very very minimal amount.. If you are getting more sooting than what can barely be seen (at the end of the final burn) on the container, I would say that you are using the wrong wick size, OR your container is too deep. I've stopped using anything deeper than a 16 oz apoth, unless the opening is porpotioninate(sp?) to the depth, otherwise I get more soot than I want. HTH
  17. That's the exact one my hub made for me.. I LOVE IT!!!
  18. Well, I'm testing all of Peaks new waxes, and since I have no shows (next home show is in mid Nov.), and have a lull in orders for the moment, I'm gonna be pouring more of thier pillar pre-blend, votive pre-blend and their low mp straight paraffin. So far I'm loving the results with it.. LOVE the fact that the votive and pillar pre-blends are granulated.. LOVE that... I'll be trying some rustics, some marbles and a couple other type of pillars.. I pretty much have the container testing down.. And well, I want to really play and get creative and containers can get boring, so it's all pillars and votives this weekend.
  19. My hub made me a soap beveller.. Total cost of materials was under $8.00 and it took him all of 10 minutes to actually put it together.. My bevel is a little deep, but you can adjust it to make them less or more, whatever your preference.. Best little tool ever.. I LOVE IT!! I'm at work right now, but when I get home, if I can remember, I will post the directions hub used..
  20. Nope, I don't clean mine either.. There is never any left over wax, so I don't have to worry about it. I've never had any scent transfer either...
  21. A lot of people suggest LX 12 I believe-or is it 10? (I could be wrong, because I don't use LX wicks, I use the ones you are having trouble with, but with a different wax) Anyway, point is, lol you might want to research and try a different type wick than the zincs. Good luck.. I'm in the process of researching and re-testing different wicks also.
  22. I'm so sorry, I jsut saw this thread again.. I think Tallbaby has pretty much answered all of your questions, so all I'm going to add is, HAVE FUN.. Once you get the hang of it, you are gonna love it!!
  23. In my testing so far, yes, I am using the same wicks and size wicks. BUT I used a soft, one pour wax before also, not the 4786.. I would say the wicking will probably be different than with that, but that is only a guess. When I used the 4786 I could never get it wicked the way I wanted without leaving hangup on the sides. I either got hangup or soot, so I stopped using the wax.
  24. They are the same type of kits they have at Hobby Lobby for M&P.., At least those are the one's I've seen at our Wal-Mart here.. It would be a good start just to see if you like it, but if you do, definitely go the supplier route.. You can get the same thing for about half to 3/4 the cost.. I liked the kits just starting out, because I didn't know WHAT I wanted until I actually physically had it in my hand, and with a kit like that it really does give the basics to get started and to help you understand what you are doing so in the future you know what you want or don't want.. That was my experience anyway... HTH
  25. That IS a good idea.. For Aug. we could do back to school in your states main university colors (or whatever, just throwing ideas out there) and/or Arbor Day (tree colors, or embed tree, something like that-isn't Arbor Day in Aug?? lol) But I DO like this idea!!
