  1. I have to agree with Mystic Angel and Rebecca. I LOVE my Misty Creek mold, and have found the upland I have to be more of a PITA than it's worth! I also like Mystic's idea of a stamp. Better versatility with the soaps that way. I hate lining too, but now that I have the it down pat how to line, it literally takes me seconds to line my slab molds and maybe a minute to line my logs. JMO- Good luck whatever you decide.
  2. Yes, Peak oils are quality oils. Although it would be impossible to have one supplier exclusively for FO's, Peaks comprises probably about 65-70% of the oils I use regularly.
  3. That's one of the neatest ideas I've seen in a while! I've made the "aquarium" soaps before, but always in clamshells. I would have never thought to put them in a log mold! GOOD JOB!! BTW-were they hard to cut straight?
  4. Oxides and ultramarines are what I like best out of your list.
  5. I've used sunflower as high as 25% before and have never had a problem. I love it. I use it in most of my recipes but usually at the 10% mark.
  6. Very pretty! At least you know it's not going to discolor due to scent!
  7. Those are the exact instructions my hub used. Took him 10 minutes to actually make it. (took me 2 weeks to talk him into it! lol) I love it though! And the scraps I use in other soaps as confetti, make soap balls out of them, or just set the confetti peices in the bathroom as sort of a soap potpouri.
  8. Well, I don't know about the TD. I've used about 1TBLS per lb of soap with the stearic, and that worked. Not quite as white as a white base, but it def. wasn't clear anymore! lol Also the stearic made for a harder bar (slightly) so it lasted a bit longer than the bars I made without it. HTH
  9. I had my hub make mine. It makes the deep bevels, and I like that. Cost him less than $6 to make, and no shipping! Gotta love that!
  10. I've added some stearic to mine on accident once and that worked. Maybe some TD might work too. Maybe somebody else knows a better way other than just buying a white base? HTH - good luck.
  11. That's cool looking! And it stays soft? I'm gonna have to try that. My son would LOVE it!
  12. I thought I had read that it did come with a lid, so I was surprised when I got mine and it didn't have one. LOL (went and re-read, and nope, no lid included! lol) I had my hub make me a few lids for some of my other slab molds a while back and I found one that fit good enough, so I used that.
  13. I don't know how to add pics to old posts, so here are the cut pics for my triple swirl with my Misty Creek mold.. The one with the most yellow in it, is the bottom that didn't quite make it to the "swirl" stage. The second pic shows the soap sitting on the knife that came with the mold. I am very pleased with the way these turned out. And they smell DELISH!! I'm gonna put them in some Easter baskets I'm making up for my mom and sister. (They'll know not to use the soap right away since they will have only cured for about 2 weeks!-lol)
  14. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that Bruce uses regular candle dyes, and not pigments. I do know for a fact that, yes, you can use regular dyes. My only concern with regular dyes is they tend to bleed easier than pigments and since most carvings are used more for decoration than for burning, there's a small chance they could bleed out onto furniture or whatever, if it's not set on something protective. However I have used reg. dyes on some of my personal carvings and have had them set out for about a year, and I haven't encountered any bleeding yet. HTH
  15. Michi, I got the mold off of ebay. Cannot remember the sellers ebay name, but I think if you do a search on Misty Creek it should come up. It was posted on here a while back I believe. It's the wooden mold that has the cut slots on all 4 sides, and it also comes with a slab knife to cut. I will post pics tonight of both the soaps and knife when I get home whether the soaps are trimmed up or not. They were still a little soft last night. I think it's because I poured at such a thin trace and also it's a little different recipe than my norm. It has a little ash, but most of my slap made soaps do. I don't think I've ever gotten ash on any soaps I've made in my log molds. Oh well. It's still really pretty.
  16. For me, the scent soaped very nicely, and I still have a few bars left from about a year or so more and it still smells nice and true. My bar has not discolored, nor did it accelorate. HTH
  17. Thank you everyone! I cut it this morning, but it's still a little soft to clean up and bevel, so we'll see what it's like tonight when I get home from work. As soon as I get them cleaned up I'll post a pic. The swirl only went all the way through on some, and some it's just kind of color blobs, but the knife! Man-o-Man that knife is NICE! It was so easy to use! I love it!
  18. Actually here are some I did last year, and it wasn't so bad at all. Not a huge process or difficult. I used a martha mold then cut it with a crinkle cutter. What I did was pour the base white, then just before it got cool enough to have a skin on it, I poured the colored soap in and swirled with a knife just like I do with my CP. Grean/yellow is scented Lemongrass, Blue is scented Ocean and the pink is Mac Apple. It was actually very easy to do, and I love the effect. I still have a bar of each left, and the colors kind of bled, but they are still swirled. (The pic is of them right after I made them)
  19. Here is the first soaps I've made in my Misty Creek Mold. So far I like it, but I like slab molds. The test will be using the honkin' knife (which I think I'm gonna LOVE-lol) Anyway, I've done triple swirls before, but this is the first one that has come out the way I liked it. The scent is Fruit Slices and the colors are a combo of Peaks ultramarines and oxides. It's still in the mold, I made it late last night so I'll update after cutting and let ya'll know how I like the knife.
  20. I do as most here. Most all of my soaps I use fresh/frozen GM for 100% of the liquid, I use any scent I happen to want to make at that time.
  21. I would think you could just do an overdip in a gold or silver pigment. I know it's been said that pigment can clog the wick, but I dip tapers with wax colored with pigment all the time and it's never clogged the wick. I think with that small of an amount on the over dip it should burn fine.
  22. I can't wait to get my sample. (but I'm being patient! lol) I think I got the Raspberry cream (or something like that-can't remember, it's been a while) FO. I've been searching for a particular raspberry for the longest time and haven't been able to find it. Hopefully this will be the one!
  23. I have to agree with most the people here. Depends on the softness of the soap, but generally about a day or so after taking it out of the mold.
  24. Yeah, they've been out of business for a while now. Their CS was on of the worst I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I don't care how "cheap" their products were, it simply wasn't worth it and I do believe that's why they went under.
