  1. I use sewable fusible web or a fabric spray glue and zigzag stitch on them. It hides the imperfections a lot. Make sure the stitch setting is close together.
  2. I have mature skin and love it when added with a few other oils for my body but my face hates it. It is too oily for it and I break out and itch.
  3. Here is a tutorial for one. Also if you search biscuit quilt you can find a lot of instructions.
  4. Nothing has been done yet but you ca track the bill here http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr4262
  5. The only claim you can make is that it is cleansing! Hope this helps. http://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/GuidanceComplianceRegulatoryInformation/ucm074201.htm
  6. I use it in a lot of my soaps at 1 oz ppo also at trace. I love it! I make a oatmeal, yogurt & shea soap and can not keep it in stock. It has become on of my top 5 repeat sellers. No problem with lather at all.
  7. Today was day 2 and sales were tough to get but better. For both days I did about $600.00 less than the normal. I was one of the lucky ones there many were down a lot more than that. Weather was warmer and not as much wind but attendence was lower than normal. I was the only soap maker, other years there have been 1 or 2 others. I did see many more 1 bar buyers than the 3 for deal. I know the economy had something to do with it. The festival is free with lots of entertainment, food prices I feel are very reasonable compared to many other festivals. It is very family orientated. It is a Daffodil Festival but the weather forced them to bloom early and they are all gone, people come to see the 100,000 of them and since it has been in the papers alot about them being gone maybe many didn't come. I hope everything turns around soon for all of us!
  8. This weekend is my biggest festival of the year, I have been doing it for 7 years. It is always very crowded and big money for me. The crowd is about 1/2 of the normal for Saturday. The money is horrible, I am down about $1000.00 from other years. Everyone is complaining, the people next to me every year sell fudge and were down over 1500.00 this year.. The weather was chilly and very windy (in access of 20 MPH) but I have done this show in pouring rain and have done better than what I did yesterday! I hope today is better for sales. Hope you had better sales.
  9. I agree! Anger will get you no where but level headed advocacy will. Everyone has the enough anger in their lives they don't hear you when you speak anger.. They do hear facts, explanations in why you feel it is wrong, your professionalism & knowledge of the facts. There are quite a few threads here at the beginning of the hearings last year that Scented and I have talked about this subject with very few becoming involved and talking about it. I also have been sending letters, emails, calling and talking to anyone who will listen including politicians, etc.. All of my customers have done the same for me. We have been doing it for a year now at least once every month.
  10. I had a Relay for Life sponsored show today which I have done for the past 6 years. I was down about 20% this year, In the past I have made about the same every year. I did do ok, made my table fee plus enough to be ok with. But it there was a large drop in the amount of people and what they were spending. Usually this event is very well attended. It was very well advertized and organizers are great.
  11. If the product is made with water or comes in contact with water (scrubs) it must contain a preservative! When listed on the label it must contain the INCI names.. Maybe that is why you do not see the preservative listed. It will not be under the common brand name. As far as using a perseravtive it is our resposablity to make a safe product for our customer and the only way to do that is to use the correct one according to the product we make and what works best for our formula. Medical claims can not be made, We have no control on what others put on labels or websites but it is Our responsibility to to follow FDA Laws! Products that do make claims have to be tested and approved for what we claim by the FDA. 12. I wish I never opened this thread! I never knew about it but now I do, lol
  13. Thanks for posting this. Looks interesting. I use square but this might be good to have also for a back up. I like that you will be able to scan checks with an app for it also.
  14. It won't hurt to try and rebatch if it doesn't work out then you can toss. I don't usually rebatch something that separates as long as it isn't a big batch.
  15. Are you sure it was Lye solution? Did it zap? Maybe it was false trace. Did you forget am oil? Just wiping them off will not help if it was the lye. You can try to rebatch but I would toss it if it was the lye and zapped. If you can figure out what oil is missing you could add it and rebatch. Can you post your recipe? That may help also to figure it out.
  16. Welcome Homespun!! I believe you have to be a member 30 days and I forget how many posts you have to have. It is in the Coop section. I have put this on hold as there was not enough interest. I will try again in a month or so.
  17. If using ozs. I always use 5 quarters they weigh exactly 1 oz.
  18. I hope you meant Palm OIL not Palm WAX! Hope the rebatch comes out ok for you.
  19. I infuse herbs of all types in oils and also make a tea. I like the properties it brings to soap. I like the colors some create. I do NOT use them to replace Eo's as the scent from infusing is eaten up the lye. For the labels I list the infused oil as say Chamomile infused Olive oil, if any of the herb is in the soap I list that in the proper order of the list. When I make it with tea I list it as Chamomile tea instead of the water.
  20. I love Rival. I have an older one, I just checked to see if it has a model # etc. on it and it doesn't. I found them at Goodwill and tag sales for a couple of dollars. The one I am using now I paid $3.00 for and gave used it for 3 years. The last one lasted me for 4 years.I have 2 more in stock that I have paid less than $4.00 for. I also have an old kitchenaid mixer that does a great job on scrubs when I want to pull it out. It doesn't splatter at all and is heavier than a SB for bigger batches. I just found a picture of the sb on amazon mine is an older model but very much like this http://www.amazon.com/Rival-Ultrablend-2-Speed-Handheld-Immersion/dp/B00006IUYG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
  21. I wouldn't put it in plastic. Is the 2nd batch the same scent as the first? I think it may be the plastic bag though or bad olive oil.
  22. Did the bag have any openings so the soap could breathe? Yes it could have something to do with it. I always leave mine in a cardboard box or paper bag. I still think it maybe the oil you used. Did it have a high Olive oil percent maybe it went bad. Oils do stink when they go rancid. Soap does not have to have dos (orange spots) to be rancid.
  23. I had a vanilla, can't remember which one or where I got it that smelled terrible after a year so It could be the FO.
  24. I have soaps that are a few years old with lard that smell fine, I have never had that happen but I have had them smell rancid with using older Olive oil, rice bran or sunflower. They were are on the verge of the expiration date when used so I made a soap of all of them and a year later found them in a cabinet and wow, they went in the trash very quickly. I never add a preservative to soaps.
  25. With Milk soaps I do not add sugar but some do. It is a matter of choice. Coconut Milk has enough sugar in it IMO. It does make a great creamy soap with lots of conditioning. I use 5% Babassu Oil in most of my soaps which adds to the lather and conditioning also.
