  1. Please add Grapefruit Vanilla Twist from Just Scent to the list! It works great!!
  2. Yup, that's what happens to mine too, except I don't color mine. I think it's the nature of the wax. I hate to bring Mia Bella into this again, but since they also use a palm wax and they are a major candle manufacturer, it happens to their candles too. Which in my opinion is why they have labels that go ALL the way around and from top to bottom of their candles. If you were to burn one, then peel the plastic label off their candle it does it to theirs too. So, I really think it's just the nature of the palm wax. BTW, your candles are beautiful!!
  3. littlebrownbug, I am doing exactly what you are doing. I use two CSN 9's (the smallest they make, other than for votives) and I too get that "line" around the top. However, it's not with ALL of the candles I've tested so far. So far, it's happened badly on my MacIntosh Apple (from BCN) and only a little on my Beach Bum (from JS) and not at all on my Grapefruit Vanilla Twist (from JS). So, maybe it's the fo's fault;) . I also found out what you did, that the CSN 16's just don't give a good, clean melt pool and the hot throw is not that great either. For now though, I'm not worried about the discolored line. I've finally gotten a great burning and throwing candle, so I'm happy! :yay: :yay:
  4. I also use the frosted palm from CS. I get that discolored wax on the top also, although it doesn't bother me. I got it with some of my soy candles too. I had the same problem of the wax coming completely out of the jar (I use a straight sided jar) and my palm container could almost be a pillar, lol! I solved the problem by adding some soy to it to soften it up and it works perfectly .
  5. I use them too but only the 18 oz so far. I love the clean/modern look of them, that's why I chose them. I can't get them to burn right with a single wick though so I double wick them. I also use palm though, so that might make a difference. Yes, with the double wicking I get a full melt pool on the first burn. Then a nice clean burn all the way down :-)
  6. I ordered some samples from JS during the sale and one of them I got was Satsuma (Body Shop type). I had read that it got great reviews in soy and I am using a palm/soy mix (10% soy). Well, it has the fuel smell. So, apparently palm will give off a fuel smell with some citrus scents too. Is there anything different I can try, is it something I did, or do I just have to face the fact that this scent won't work in my palm?
  7. For those of you who make them, do you let them cure? I poured a MacINtosh Apple (BCN) yesterday and lit it this morning and I'm not getting a hot throw unless I stand over it. I do add 20% soy, so I'm thinking I may just need to let this cure? Anyone try this scent in soy yet? Thanks!
  8. I use them. Try these two: http://www.yessupplyco.com/products/studio_capri_madison_jars.htm or http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/dept.asp?deptID=3 HTH!
  9. ....4 oz of Coconut Bay Type from Royal Aromatics that I could buy off you? I just want that scent from there and I don't want to have to spend their minimum of $50. So, I figured I'd try here first.
  10. I know this is going to sound dumb:embarasse Ok... I have only used a 16 oz container and I add 1 oz of FO, which makes it 6% right? I recently purchased a 1/2 oz. sampler of a more concentrated fo (it says to add 3-5%) and my wax (palm) can only hold 6% fo. So, I should add that whole 1/2 oz for a 16 oz candle? How much do I add to make it at 6%? AND, what if I want to try to start testing a 12 oz container. How much fo do I add then? Thanks :embarasse
  11. Good to know!! I've been wanting to try this one too. Along with the new palm tree fragrance.
  12. I don't color my candles, so I had no idea using a heat gun (hair dryer) on the tops would cause frosting. Sorry for giving wrong information:embarasse . In my soy candles, I don't ever have to do anything to the tops. they come up creamy smooth on top every time. I just have to wait until slushy before I pour and that seems to do the trick. Every wax is different though, and I don't use that wax, I use EZSoy.
  13. Yes, I have burned a few. It's actually what made me want to start making my own...because they are so expensive! Honestly, they are my favorite candle (other than my own:p ) and the ones I have tried have all thrown VERY well. They burn clean and all the way down with no wax left over. BUT, the problem with MB is their business practice. They claim that they have an all natural SOY candle (which clearly it is not since it does have a crystal appearence.). I'm assuming it must be a lot of palm in there, but they definitely advertise it as a soy candle. Plus, they bash parafin.:rolleyes2 Anyway, they do make a good product and they are very popular in the "home business" world because they have a sales consultant program where anyone can sell them. HTH:grin2:
  14. What are some general "heavy" scents that may need to be wicked up on? I know that a spiced cranberry-type scent requires wicking up, but what are some others?
  15. I poured it. Still not impressed. I'm still holding on to some hope because the BitterCreek message board says it gets better as it cures several days. I personally don't even like the scent, but my aunt requested I make her some in it. (YUCK):lipsrseal
  16. Ok, I just got this today, and I must say I'm not that impressed OOB. It DOES definitely smell like yank***'s, but it's not that strong. Hoping it does better in wax .
  17. Are you guys finding that as a general rule, if it's said to work in soy that it will work in palm? Has anyone tried a scent that was reported to NOT work well in soy? I'm curious if palm and soy might have the same works/doesn't work fo's? I think I might order a sampler from JS (because of the sale) just to see if any of her scents work in palm.
  18. You can add Ocean Mist from NG to the list and Honeysuckle jasmine from CS to the list! I have been testing them this weekend and they are throwing great.
  19. Yeah, that's normal. When it's completely set, just take a hair dryer and blow warm air on the top of the candle....melting just the top a little until it's even.
  20. Good point! I think it's just the time of year, honestly. I'll be testing Banana Nut Bread early next week so I'll let you know.
  21. Hi Judy~ 1) What size containers are you using? I'm am starting out using the 18 oz Madison Jar (but I don't fill it to the top, I only use 16oz...easier to measure fo, lol) 2) What type soy are you mixing this palm with? I'm mixing the frosted palm with EZSoy, from Bittercreek. and 3) Are you letting them "cure" any longer than overnight or 24 hrs? No, so far I just have let them cure overnight. With that much soy though, it couldn't hurt if I let them cure longer. I am using fo's that have an excellent soy rating, and are strong throwers and so far they have been true to that rating. I just made a wildberry mousse today and will burn it in the morning. This one I double wicked, just to see if I like that result better. HTH:grin2:
  22. Well, I did my first test burn. The hot throw is great! Which I was worried about with the palm. I burned for about 3 1/2 hours, and did not get a full melt pool. It did the typical tunneling, with the "crust" left and I hoping that when I burn it a few more times it will catch up. I actually used a CSN 16 (not a CSN 14 like I posted before), and I hope it will do better than the 14. I think the scent throw will be even better when I get a full melt pool. I may have to try and double wick my next tester, just to see what happens.
  23. I don't color either. I've never added anything to them and they all stay fairly white or off white.
  24. Beautiful!!! Great pictures too, you did a very nice job!:highfive:
  25. Ok, well so far so good. It definitely makes the adhesion to the glass much better. Now my candle is actually "stuck" to the glass and there seems to be no way it's going to slide out now. The cold throw is still amazing (no funny scent of soy:rolleyes2 ) but there is a noticeable change in the crystalization effect. I am using the frosted palm though, which tends to have less crystalization than the rest of them I've heard. It doesn't matter to me, since I'm not coloring them. I will burn it in the morning, to give it a little more time to cool/harden. So, we'll see how it turns out.
