  1. This is going to sound stupid but what about one of those Mr. Clean stain removing sponges. I am using those things on everything because my two year old leaves a trail. Or try WD-40. I know that is what they suggest for crayon all over the clothes dryer. Don't ask:o
  2. :highfive: Yeah, Harbor Freight. You can also get the infra red thermometers there for about $30. They are whey better then constantly cleaning off Mercury's and very accurate. It doesn't have to be a high powered heat gun. Just enough to reach melting point for candle tops. Yes, home depot has them in the paint section for about $24 Milwaukee brand.
  3. Cd's are usually great wicks for throw. Studio jars are graduated jars with smaller tops and wider bottoms. It might be throwing the air flow off in the jars a bit preventing proper throw. A lot of people who make candles don't always figure that equation with those jars. another reason is the types of FO's the percentage you are using. You can push it to 1 1/2 oz per lb. But there should be no other reason why can't get any throw with that wax. Usually its container blends that are iffy. Those 14oz and 20 jars reach way over 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Are your wicks reaching all the way across when they get to the bottom of those jars with 1/4 inch melt pool depth at the least.
  4. I make those too. I usually let them sit for a couple of days on a paper towel so any seepage aborbs into it. After that they are pretty dry. I sit them in my car too and they don't seem to be oily to the touch.
  5. Brenny where are you in Indiana you could probably be able to make periodic trips to Millcreek. Start out with their soy125 which is GB415. It's best to try an all soy before you work up to the container blends because its pretty consistant with the pouring temp and texture when pouring into a container. The container bends tend to be more tempermental if you haven't worked with soy before. Millcreek is a great supplier. They are also ranked one of the better suppliers for FO on this site for soy and they are very reasonably priced for both wax and fragrance oils. Ask some of the older members. There is also Indiana candle supplies alot of members love their products. You can find all the most popular sites here and the ones closest to you. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5492
  6. I would ask the supplier. Where did you buy the wax from?
  7. You really didn' list what type of jar. If you are using Ezsoy and haven't wicked it right then C-3 is going to be an even bigger challenge since it is a container blend and those waxes usually have to be wicked up. I use a lot of heavy oils with 415 which is comparative to ezsoy. The Premiers do run all the way up to 798 so you still have a lot of sizes to work with don't be afraid. Just make sure you document which size wick and what size jar for that particular FO so you don't forget. If its a powerful scent you might consider reducing your FO percentage too. It might be overloading the wax hindering its melting point a little.
  8. Hi Tasha, Welcome to the board. Geekrunner is one of our members that shares his knowedge and experiences with us when he tests out his soy waxes and blends. He is telling you about a brand of soy wax (Gold Brands) that might be easy for you to start out with. It is on the outside of post at the top of the whole Vegetable wax board. Everybody has their preference we have some new members that sometimes don't even know what particular brand wax to use and need some extra guidance. Go Into the Fragrance board and at the top is supplier abbreviations. It has a list of suppliers and you will be able to find one closer to you. There are a few in AZ and Texas that would benefit you better in shipping for waxes.
  9. I will have to try the Vodka and distilled for home. I have some cotton candy from MC that is pretty good and some bubblicious. I just don't want them to accidentally spray themselves in their eyes that is why maybe it is best not to use the KY because that stuff is high in alcohol I only use it because it dissapates faster than the cyclo. I literally was slipping on my wood floors after spraying it.
  10. I think MMS has a recipe for cracked feet that also has citric acid added to it. I do know that is also Kerasol's main ingredient and that stuff does wonders on my hubby's feet. His feet are so bad I call him Froto the hobbit.
  11. Though HP is germacidal it is also very drying for facial skin it also in time bleaches. I don't know many products that contain peroxide in a skincare regimen. It also oxides if left out exposed to oxygen for too long causing to lose its properties. You would also have to worry about interactions with the other chemicals you use which would be more chemistry than you bargain for. The FDA would also limit what percentage you would be allowed to use and how you would market it. Benzol Peroxide is used in acne products and that even has to be used in moderation. Witch hazel is the best toner you can use and has the same defenses.
  12. Hey everyone, I need a hair serum recipe that doesn't contain any soy! I realize cyclomethicone is one of them but it has to be geared towards fine hair. Any suggestions?
  13. I think that would defeat the whole purpose of the effects of Palm wax if you added soy to it. You want that pretty feathering effect. Then why not just use soy if you don't want the feathering? I have a ton of chocolate molds and yes you can melt them. I have pushed far enough just with GB416 and it clouds the molds from the heat. Feather palm wax would make pretty tarts. I love the look of that wax.
  14. Looks good Lisa! I haven't tried my starburst wax yet. But you inspire me girl. I am assuming you have to underwick with a little more hang up by the way that particular wax burns.
  15. I love coffee scents. I buy the scents just to please me:D I have tried most of JS and loved them. although sorry Trish, I am not a fan of Caramel Cinnamon Latte it throws a burnt caramel smell to me. Millcreek I have tried every single one and loved it. I have tried BCN's and have had good luck too! The only one that didnt send me was NG and I usually love all of their scents but their coffee smelled like day old coffee the part that turns to syrup at the bottom of the pot. lol
  16. I use GB 415 from millcreek in addition to their 36-24-24 cotton wicks. They don't burn too high and have a decent melt pool.
  17. I don't want your secret I just want to know if its a B&B base you use? My sons are having a hard time with the dark and was thinking of just making something like that for them. I use KY's base normally for Fabric and body mist. I would assume it has to be something safe for kids. I will not use Cyclo because that is not safe its a silicone base which makes it an allergin and my daughter sneezes from it so I had to seek something safer with an alcohol or witch hazel base.
  18. Honestly it wasn't that hard to do since 415 has to be poured so cool, it is the easiest to use. If I want a stronger throwing wax with a similar melting point I use it. I haven't tried the the 416 yet as far as throw. It throws great for tarts I know. But maybe the 444 would be worth a try. This particual candle I made wax wicked with CD20's and burned evenly after about three hours. If I wanted to push it with a marathon burn I could have probably could have gotten away with CD18's.
  19. Oh Jami, I love Extreme Vanilla. I am not a vanilla lover and I love this vanilla. I will admit there are some people on this board who don't care for it but that is because they like the more subtle vanilla's. I used this one for wedding favors this last fall and the bride and groom went nuts over it. I only order Birthday Cake from MC. I did try others and didn't enjoy them as much. How is the Blueberry Muffins? I did not try that one because I already use too many bakery scents. My sister has been begging me for that one.
  20. Millcreek is where I purchase my 415. Try some of their FO's too I highly recommend them. I haven't found one yet from there that doesn't throw well in 415. Honestly I love the 415. The only thing that made me think about it was the frosting issue. I wasn't that concerned with the throw because the majority of Fo's throw well. That is what is great about this site because you can find out ahead of time what fo's from what suppliers work well with soy with the right research. I do have a whole bunch I poured with 415 over two years ago. They are a little frosted but their scents are as strong as ever.
  21. I am sure you already all know this but you can find those hard plastic spoons at the dollar store. I usually get three to a pack and they don't abosorb the dyes either.
  22. Make sure you are checking the temp of your melted wax with a thermometer. Just because you have the temp calibrated up to 180 doesn't mean it is 180. Its overheating the wax and turning it brown. It doesn't make a difference in the performance but sometimes it will throw an oily smell if overheated to much, kind of like deep frying grease.
  23. This is a chunky I made with 464 as the chunks and 415 as the base wax. It throws awesome. But I will try 416 tart blend for the chunks next time because the color tends to bleed out in the wax after sitting a couple of months. But it works fine. It just makes me think of a desert.
  24. Just out of curiosity why did you switch. If you were happy with the 100% keep using it. I had the same problems with 444 and 464. I live in a very big house that is always cold and there was no consistancy so I gave up. Yet I have the 415 down to a tee. I was just looking for a better way to keep it from frosting. But its not worth it. I bought two Beanpods recently and the the brown Oatmeal Raisin Cookie is all frosted on top. We are too hard on ourselves.
