  1. Hi Sharon, I'm pretty new too but here's my 5 cents..., I use bulb jars which are also wider towards the bottom and I measure the widest spot for wicking. I also use the CD wicks but I use the GW 415, that combination works pretty well for me! Good luck!
  2. I was wondering if there is a right and wrong way to cooling the candles. Once the wax is pretty much hardened so I can move the candle but the jar is still warm can I put the lid on already or should I wait til it's completely cold. Does it make any difference? Just wondering, probably a retty stupid question?!
  3. thank you so much grama, I just looked through and they have a great selection and found the maduro!
  4. my friend showed me 2 candles today from "Archipelago Botanicals" where her favorite scents are Lanai and Havana! She would love for me to make some with these scents, does anyone know them and knows where I could get these scents? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
  5. You've been my helper of the day for all my questions, thanks Jami! I'll try the stickums then because that is exactly what happened to me a couple of times, that the dots came loose while pouring, very frustrating!
  6. The light bulb went on! thanks so much Jami, I'll try that!
  7. Thanks everyone, they look like the gluedots I got from lonestar candlesupply, so I guess I'm doing the right thing!
  8. I've been using gluedots to keep my wicks in place which works good but I wonder what everybody else is doing. The dots are kind of high so at the end when they are almost burned down every little mm makes a difference! Thanks!
  9. Thanks, Jami, I guess I just need to understand how you wick it! So you don't use the metal tabs at the bottom? Do you put the skewer in and when the wax is set you pull it out and put the wick in and just remelt the top with a heatgun to keep the wick in place? Or am I totally off? LOL Thanks in advance! Btw if that is how you do it is it safe with the clear plastic cups or would I need the metal ones?
  10. I have been trying to wick my tealights. I'm using the GW 415 and tried zinc and Tea 330S from Millcreek but I'm not very happy! Any suggestions? I thought they would be great as samples! Otherwise my neighbour came over to buy 1 jar candle for a co worker and she ended up buying 4 because she loved them so much! Needless to say, I'm in heaven! Now I'm getting ready for our school carnival where I'm selling them at the fundraiser! I hope people will buy them there too! Thanks for everyones help in getting me this far!
  11. I'm hoping that someone can help me with my mystery. First of all I'm happy that I finally found the right wicks for my 2 different jar sizes. I'm using the 5oz and 9oz bulb jars and GB 415. I tried in both sizes the CD 12 and DC 14 and double wicked the big jars. In the big jars the CD 12 is pretty perfect, nice mp, no buildup, the CD 14 has a too deep mp. But in the small jars it's with all 4 jars the other way around. The CD 14 has less of a mp than the CD12 and I don't think I labeled them wrong since all four are like this. Does anyone know the reason behind this. Also it's like this every time, I'm burning them right now for the 3rd time @ 4 hours each. So it seems the CD 14 are the better wicks for that jar but I just can't figure out why. Thanks for your input!
  12. I guess my jar is too big and I need to double wick. Its close to 4". I think I might add only FOs and no dye, I really like the natural color of the wax. Now is every FO different or are there certain groups of FOs that need other wick sizes. Thanks for your help, as you can see, I'm a Newbe!
  13. Well, I didn't use any FO or color cause I just want to test the wick, I burn it for 4 hours max and trim the wick each time! Which leaves ... wick to big... I guess, but then the meltpool is not big enough. Thanks for the input!
  14. I testrun different wicks (CD 20, CD 22 and HTP 1312) in my jars and the meltpool is good in some but the top of the wick gets big and kind of breaks apart which results in a not so pretty flame. I trimmed the wicks back but the same thing starts all over again. BTW I'm using the Golden Wax 415. Any thoughts on this one? It doesn't seem to be an issue with smaller jars and their wicks! Thanks everyone!
