  1. @Moonstar I'm currently testing 50% gb444/45% coconut wax/5% stearic in an 8 oz jar. I am getting better results with wick stabilization and a more shallow melt pool. I plan to test burn them by Monday. I get nice smooth tops with this blend, (even after burning a few times) but there is a bit of a dip near the wick so I heat gun them the next day. I'm testing with cd and rrd wicks.
  2. Will do, @Kerven I have seen it on a couple of supplier websites that gb 444 and 464 don't play well with beeswax. I just tried a blend of coconut wax, gb444 and stearic at 5%. I am waiting a couple more days to test. I do feel that coconut wax needs to be blended with a more viscous wax like soy to keep the wicks from slumping, which is what I have encountered with several different wick types in coconut wax. (ECO, RRD, CD, HTP) @Moonstar - I've seen coconut wax melt points listed at ~ 121-126, which is the same as gb444. However, straight coconut wax is a lot thinner than the gb444, regardless of stated melt point. It's a lot different.
  3. Yep! That campfire FO murders wicks. You also don't need much to get that smokey scent.
  4. I know! So frustrating to be working so hard to produce a good product with integrity while companies say whatever they want to make the sale. An uneducated consumer is their best customer The 444 by itself frosts like crazy but the coconut wax seems to make it behave. It does produce a nice scent throw. I like the 464 but I'm trying to add firmness to the soft coconut wax while increasing viscosity.
  5. I have not yet found the right balance yet unfortunately. I ditched the beeswax for now and I'm currently doing coconut wax and soy blends at 50:50 and 55:45 coconut to soy. I'm using gb 444 Yes, the voluspa candles are lovely! Mine burns well and has a nice cold and hot throw. I just wonder how the big guys can ship these soft candles in summer heat.
  6. I agree with @TallTayl You aren't leaving yourself enough wiggle room. It is better to be at around 3x your cost. Your branding is very nice. I see most candles that size selling for $18-$20 retail. My wholesale Line Sheet details my policies, order minimums, etc. I have photos of each of my items with brief description of the product plus wholesale and MSRP. Lucky Break Consulting designed them for me. If you check out the website, Lela, the owner has a wealth of information. Follow her social media as she shares lots of very helpful info on wholesale. Hope that helps!
  7. As I've said before, my heart goes out to all of you dealing with this recent horror with soy wax. I'm in my own testing hell with learning, but I'm new to all of this. I can't imagine having an established business and going through this.
  8. I'm a long time candle lover and only recently started making them. I didn't care one bit what the candle looked like as long as it smelled good when I lit it.
  9. I recently purchased CDN wicks from Candle Cocoon. I noticed the wick tabs were a smaller diameter than all my other wicks. Is this normal, or is it something this particular company sells?
  10. @Kerven My results with the wood wicks were not all that promising. I used a 1/4" and 3/8" and both really struggled to stay lit. I may do more testing with the wick booster later on, but for now I'm just trying to get the conventional wicks to work. @ShineOn At 40% the 444 is not helping to firm up the wax to my liking. It is still fairly soft. I have been using 415 as it is supposed to be okay with beeswax, which I think the coconut wax needs. (or stearic, which I have not tried yet) On a side note, I bought a Voluspa candle which is coconut wax and it is very soft. Can't believe they are putting it out there like that. It must melt like crazy in summer.
  11. @Moonstar, I read it on one of the sites that sell the GB waxes, and I've also heard it from TallTayl. I've been testing the fall/holiday scents from CS - Apple Harvest, White Birch, Fraser Fir.
  12. Yes! The soy and coconut when blended tend to tame each other's problems. I loved the overall look and hot throw from the coconut wax/464 blend. My only concern was that it was still kind of soft when I started adding fo after testing it without. Have you found that to be the case? I wanted to add some beeswax to the blend but I've read that both 464 and 444 don't blend well with beeswax. I'm currently testing coconut/soy 415/beeswax. My favorite was the 464/coconut.
  13. @PINKT are you using the apricot wax straight, or blended? If you had to choose one of these two waxes, which would you choose?
  14. I am finding the same results, @Kerven! And, the coconut wax seems to tame the mottled top problems with soy. Have you found that blending the coconut with 40% and higher soy cuts the hot throw? I was thinking of trying coconut wax/soy/beeswax in a blend, but I worry it will kill the great hot throw from coconut wax alone.
  15. I've tried them in coconut wax. The small was too small for my 2.5" opening jar and the medium was too big. They need an in between size. And, I don't think they put out as much light as conventional wicks.
  16. I agree, ShineOn! I'll be testing cdn wicks next. I really like the throw I get with just 5% beeswax added for firmness. I just think it needs to be blended with a little extra soy for more body.
  17. I will be test burning a couple of batches at the end of the week and will post results. Nice smooth tops on single pour.
  18. Thanks, TallTayl! I will definitely give those a try!
  19. Thanks, TallTayl! I tried the ones from woodenwick.com because they have various widths and thicknesses. Have you tried them? I can send you some. I will check out the ones from BcN. I see they also have Softwood wicks and they say they are good for coconut wax. Are these new? The glass glow candles sound amazing!
  20. ShineOn, I am currently trying gb444 at 25% and 40% in test batches. I'm hoping to increase firmness and give the wax more body.
  21. Hi moonstar! I use white beeswax. I got a small amount from candlesandsupplies but I might get it from NG next if I end up using it. I have not noticed that it burns faster than a regular soy candle. I tried the ribbon wicksfrom Northwood but I didn't have much luck with it. The small was too small and the medium too big. It would be awesome if the wood wicks work but I'm not holding out much hope judging from what I've read here and elsewhere about them.
  22. I just made the wood wick batch today and I will post results in a week or so. I got mine from woodenwick.com - I like how they have several types/sizes. I find most weeks tend to slump or lean inmy candles. I'm guessing that won't happen with a rigid wooden wick. The beeswax has helped tame the wick.
