  1. Very happy with Flaming Candle! Lightning fast delivery and their fragrance oils are really, really nice!
  2. Hi @Trappeur I described it as velvety/creamy/woodsy with a sweet coffee note. At least that's what it smells like to me.
  3. Thanks @TallTayl - I'm sure it's wonderful, and if it doesn't do well in my wax blend, I'll just make myself a batch of soap with it.
  4. @Moonstar It's velvety/creamy/woodsy with a sweet coffee note. At least that's what it smells like to me.
  5. I so miss that Black Vetyver Cafe! Do you know how it does in soywax candles?
  6. @Clear Black Thank you for sharing your experience! I think you might be able to get away with going even lower on the co 92. I am liking my coconut wax/gb 444 blend but I think I’m going to try a test batch of co 92/gb 444. I’ve done some blends with co 92 and beeswax but can’t deal with all of the cracking.
  7. Haha @Clear Black I know what you mean! TT makes my brain hurt sometimes
  8. @Kerven That is certainly possible. I believe NorthWood Candle Supply sells coconut 83 wax and they offer free shipping on certain quantities.
  9. I've purchased a few candles that were pre-trimmed way down.
  10. @TallTayl Thanks! Yes, in the glass jar. I have smaller RRD wicks. I tried the LX wicks. They mushroomed badly, even in my fragrance free testers. I have HTP wicks as well. I've been having decent results with the RRD wicks. I just wicked a bit higher this time around since I added the stearic and went with 50% gb 444.
  11. Glad you shared that! If I ever make a decent candle for sale, I was thinking I would send them out pre-trimmed.
  12. Yep! I was thinking ECO, too! Even in coconut wax, which turns ECO wicks into torches, that smoke fo drowns everything if you don't wick up a lot.
  13. Hi @ShineOn I did test burn a 45% coconut wax/50% gb 444/5% stearic blend yesterday after a 5 day cure. As it burned, I noticed a crack deep in the melt pool. I'm wondering if it was the stearic. (I heated wax to 180, poured at 135 and 130 between two test candles) My wick slumped, but that could have been because of the crack. Back to the drawing board...
  14. @Moonstar Sounds like a plan! And, we are in good company here - lots of knowledgable people! I love Etsy shops, too! I almost buy as much as I sell there!
  15. @Moonstar I feel your pain! I am not giving up on coconut wax, I'm just realizing it too will be subject to the fluctuations affecting the performance of soy wax these days. My gut is telling me that to achieve a good candle in this current situation with the wax problems, I'm going to have to formulate a blend of different waxes so that each one brings something to help or compensate for the issues with the other wax(es). Unfortunately, we have been let down by the suppliers and we are basically on our own and forced to blaze new trails. All we can do is try to help each other as best we can.
  16. Exactly! And, that will trickle down into the lots of coconut wax as well, since it is mixed with soy.
  17. I knew I saw it somewhere: From Flaming Candle Supply: Golden Brands GW 444 is a natural soy wax containing a soy based additive to reduce frosting. The soy based additive and a higher melt point enable it to retain a higher fragrance load and improve scent throw. GW 444 is designed for use in container candles and blends well with other waxes, such as paraffin, slack, and microcrystalline wax. It is not recommended to blend GW 444 with beeswax.
  18. @TallTayl - this is what I've read on a couple of supplier sites, no idea why. When I come across where I read it, I will post back.
  19. 5% beeswax helped to firm my coconut wax, but I hear that 464 does not blend well with beeswax, so maybe try 5% stearic?
  20. Okay, I'll be the Village Idiot here. While researching here, I've seen several pics of test candles poured without wicks. So far, I've been testing with wicks as they would normally be used - glued to the bottom, etc. Should I just be pouring wax and then sticking different wicks into it to test? How do I do this? Or, is there another way? (I feel like such a dummy!)
