  1. Hey guys'n'gals. Back onto the 464 testing today and decided Togo down the route of relief holes to try reduce those air pockets. Its exceptionally cold here and I dont have the ability to use an oven to ease the cooling. Ipoured the 464 blend and waited till the top and sides were white, then I poked 4 or 5 chopstick size holes around the wick area. Is that what we are all calling relief holes? Ive gone all the way from the top to the bottom and a bit of liquid wax popped out of the tip of the hole. Now what happens? Do I go along in a couple of days and pour over the top and hope the hot wax is hit enough to get into all those holes and fill them all up again? Dumb question I know, but I just dont see the wax getting into all the holes and doing what it's meant to.
  2. Sry flicker I missed this. Its a 3" jar no dye. Ive since gone to single wicking this fragrance in soy and seem to have more luck due to having to wick up. Its just a really tricky fragrance to double wick.
  3. Ive bought a micrometer that I use to give me a ROUGH idea on sizes, thought ive not tried on these wax sizes. Definately worth having around. I lightly melt the wax off of the two wicks and measure. Sometimes one will show slightly bigger than the other. Its no exact science but it helps make guesstimates
  4. Good luck! I'm sure you'll perfect it in no time! I like the 464, the only thing I am trying to resolve is the craters that appear in the top after each time you light it, but the glass adhesion and CT, HT is pretty good. Its almost winter here so its cold, so its good weather to be prwctising the slow cooling techniques 8-)
  5. haha what? people do this? Does someone have some pictures to show?
  6. Yea thanks for all the replies. Like I said it was a rant. I still dont agree with the quality but I've moved on. I appreciate the education in wicks. Thx for your help.
  7. I'm going to be testing the Premiers soon too, so I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. I got mine from Aztec. OldGlory is a premier 700 veteran, I wonder if she'll pop in to say hi a little later.
  8. What I may not have made clear is that I ordered; 2 x 100 CD 5 2 x 100 CD 7 2 x 100 CD 8 2 x 100 CD 10 2 x 100 CD 12 2 x 100 CD 14 2 x 100 CD 16 2 x 100 CD 18 2 x 100 CD 20 2 x 100 CD 22 (2000 wicks) So i did actually order bags of 100. Just 2 at a time. I got two bags (like the picture shown) of each size
  9. TallTayl. Fascinating or not, I paid more, for the same product, through 'said' distributor than I did through another US source. The 'other' source packed all 2000 nicely into bags of 200 and labelled them with correct sizing. Yup. weighing wicks probably makes loads of sense, and I wouldn't want to sit there and count each wick as it comes out of the machine either, but 99 out of 100 other people deliver a product that people are happy with and at the end of the day unless you are a manufacturer, which BTW can deliver wicks the same as the 99 other distributors (in a neat and tidy fashion), then you are in the business of customer service, and customers are saying this is not good enough. Gravity doesn't determine quality of customer service.
  10. I used to use the 4627, but found that it is a touch difficult to wick in larger jars. I found they are great for votives, using HTP wicks, and are not too bad in the smaller tins as well, again with HTP wicks. Now I use it to blend with other waxes such as 4630. I don't get the other waxes above that are mentioned but I'm led to believe the above mentioned waxes are much better than what we can get here in Australia
  11. Hi all I'm curious. What is the purpose of the wax coating on a wick. I've been told by the fragrance manufacturer that it's to prevent any deterioration of the wick from both the fragrance and any possible acidic effects of some waxes.
  12. GoldieMN. I'm not in the US so I can't really comment, but I can tell you nowhere in Australia do you receive wicks in this state. The consumer simply wouldn't put up with it. Just as you wouldn't accept buying a new car with scratches and being told to take it to the cleaners and buff them out.
  13. Thank you everyone for their posts. I would never had thought they would be usable in that state. Its interesting so many people have come to expect this. I've ordered direct from the manufacturers and I have ordered similar test bundles from 3 different local suppliers, and they don't come like that, so I don't really expect that they come like that from anywhere else. It's sloppy, whether people accept it or not. Wont be bothering with that supplier anymore.
  14. Even though the wax has fallen off them, they will still burn correctly?
  15. It's was 200 of 10 different sizes, so it was not really bulk I'm not sure why buying in bulk would make it acceptable to ship wicks that are of no use anyway, would you use these wicks in the state they are in?
  16. I actually just went and checked out the reviews on their site and it looks like other people have complained about it too........... and it looks like they've done nothing at all to fix it, which kind of tells you they don't really care too much for their clients.
  17. SO.... I had to have a rant! I've been frantically testing 464 and decided to spend the extra money and order in CD's from the US, as I can't get them where I am. They finally arrived today and I was excited to get the buzz at the door, and this is what the 2000 wicks looked like when I opened the box.............. Is it just me, or is this completely our of order? They were literally just thrown into the bag like they were off cuts. The box itself turned up in impeccable condition. It had absolutely nothing to do with the courier! To even bother posting them in the first place is beyond me. Surely any self respecting individual would look at that and go 'nope that doesn't meet our standards'..... even if your standards were really low, it still wouldn't meet it, surely! I was flabbergasted, and so so so disappointed, especially after paying an extra 30% to get them delivered from OS!! Has anyone ever in their life had wicks delivered to them in this state before, or have i just been spoiled in the past?
  18. oh yeah! So there is! I actually did a test with 5%, 10% and 15% of 4627 with GW464, to try reduce frosting. It didn't reduce frosting, but I did notice that there was some air holes that followed the wick down, so when the candle was lit the wick burnt half way down before burning out, which meant the candle burnt itself out and it pretty much rendered it useless. Is this an issue with 464 or an issue due to the blend of 464 and 4627? I still prefer soy over paraffin 8-) I haven't seen any soot yet !!!
  19. Great thanks to you both for that. I'll keep it to plain for now. I can't actually get USA anyway right now
  20. Hi guys'n'gals! In the new and exciting world of soy testing that I'm venturing into this week is the question of universal additive which looks like vybar, or universal soy additive that resembles a powder. I seem to only be able to get my hands on the UA. Is there really any difference? Can anyone recommend a starting point for 464? Hearing a lot about 415 I'm tempted to dive into this rather than 464 now haha. So many choices with soy!
  21. Yup It burns at 3% but I'm not happy with the throw haha, so I'm trying it in Soy as you have to wick higher in soy so I can go all the way up to a CDN22 comfortably. That size wick should be able to handle the burn. I'm working on the basis that the smaller wick didn't have enough heat in it to completely burn the fragrance. a CDN 22 would do I hope
  22. Hey Steve - Sorry I've only just seen this! Thanks so much for this. It's a great help I didn't think to mix all those together. I'm just trying to finalize some candles for the markets and then this is next on my agenda 8-) Great help, thank you!
