  1. I have been using Joy wax for several years now and have had great success in using zinc wicks. I am wanting to test a chunky candle using Joy and bakery scents and was thinking of testing them in the 8 & 16 oz smooth sided jars. I would like to test zinc's and CD's in these 2 jars, but not sure of a starting point on wicks. The CD's I have no idea where to start but the zinc's, I was thinking of starting with these: 8 oz smooth - 44-32z 16 oz smooth - 51-32z Does anyone else use these jars and wax? How do these sound as a good starting point? It isn't like you can melt down a chunky container and repour and just change the wick,,,unfortunately,,,,,LOL TIA Portia
  2. I have a 4 oz bottle (minus a sample amount)of "Hot Buttered Popcorn" (dead on it) from NG's that you can have if you just pay shipping. PM if interested. HTH Portia
  3. Ok, I want to make a bundt cake, scented Hot Baked Apple. I'm thinking of making the cake color an ivory/light tan and I want to place slices of apples, raisins, bits of cinnamon sticks, maybe pecan halves and crumbles on the tops and down the sides. Over these I plan to dripple "Butter Cream" scented white wax. Now, what I can't decide on is should I make my apple slices in a natural/ivory color, a darker tan color or should I go with red since everything else, except the raisins will be similar in the same colors? I know, why do I have to be so complicated,,,,LOL I make bucket candles scented in the Hot Baked Apple Pie and I use natural colored wax and embed tan/med brown apple slices, but on this cake I'm not sure if it would look better if I went with the red slices. Any and all ideas/suggestions would greatly be appreciated. TIA Portia
  4. By the sounds of it, if you've only let it burn 2 hours, then it's sounding like it might be right on track at this point. Do a 2nd and 3rd burn at 1hr/" of dia and see what happens then. Keep us posted. HTH Portia
  5. I have used these wicks for a few of my tealights (Lavender for one) and it burned pretty good for me, and I'm using 4794. I have found that the TL wicks work best for me in this wax and tealights. I can go with a TL25 with almost every fragrance I use. You can get them from CandleScience. HTH Portia
  6. Fern: It just came today and "Thank You" so much! I've never waited til the next day to do my votive repours, but do wait until the next day to pop them out of the molds. Even waiting til the next day to pop them out, they haven't released and I have to apply some pressure to get them to release from the sides. So, I don't see why you couldn't wait until the next day to repour. I think you will find if you wait at least 1 1/2 hours to repour, you will find a difference in the look of your tops. HTH Portia
  7. How long have you been letting it burn? The rate one should test for MP is 1 hr per inch of dia that your candle is. If you don't get a full MP after that time frame, it could be that you need to double wick (with a smaller wick) this container. I have some fragrances that I use in my 8oz tins and I end up having to double wick them to get a good clean burn. HTH Portia
  8. Thank you all so much for your suggestions. What do you find are your best selling fragrances in Room/Linen and Body Spray? I have a couple in mind, but need a few more scents. What I have so far is: Room/Linen Spray Apple Cinnamon Potpourri Spice Nag Champa Body Spray Sweet Pea Crystal Blue Waters Cucumber Cantaloupe Gardenia Tibetian Amber Any other suggestions? TIA Portia
  9. I haven't used the wax that you are using for votive (only 4045H for pillars), but I was having the same problems as you for the longest time. EVERYONE of mine would end up with that darn nipple. After much advice from the board, I started pouring at 180, waiting roughly 1 1/2 -2hrs to do my repour and poured it at roughly 190-195. Have been getting beautiful votives every since. Not waiting longer to do the repour was the reason I was getting the nipples. The first pour hadn't had time to completely cool down and shrink as much as it was going to, therefore once I did my repour, the first pour was still in it's shrinking stage which effected the repour. I hope this makes sense. Just try waiting longer before doing your repour. HTH Portia
  10. Wasn't sure where to post this, so here goes. For those of you that make Room/Linen/Body spray's, do you color them? I am going to make up some Room Spray for the holidays and am using clear bottles and I can't decide if I should color them or not. Any suggestions? TIA Portia
  11. I tried these and I don't know what I was doing wrong, went directly by the recipe, even had to add more oil to get them to pack tight. Let them set for 3 days and they crumble so bad. You can't hardly pick one up w/o it crumbling to pieces. I did use a scrap one and it of course with the added oil made the bath water really oily, but dang, I didn't even have to use lotion afterwards. Not sure why they crumbled so bad.:undecided Portia
  12. I have used almost all of these fo's, with the exception of a few and from what I see, you won't be duplicating any scents. The Fireplace, smells just like a Christmas Tree. I think you have a nice selection there. Enjoy! Portia
  13. I have all three of these and the Independent has more of a floral smell to me. Democrat is my favorite, then Republican. Haven't tried them in wax yet. Can't make up my mind how I want to color them. HTH Portia
  14. Fern: So far it's a toss up between the RRD-47 and RRD-50. Thanks all,,,,Portia
  15. Heck, mine just wishes our's was that clean and organized,,,,,,LOL Nice work,,,Portia
  16. NG's Apple Cinnamon is great! My biggest seller. HTH Portia
  17. Thanks Candleman, but I've tried (2) 60z and they carry a really tall flame even from the first lighting. It burns pretty good if I lite it, let it burn for maybe 10 mins, blow it out and trim the wick. I did test (2) RRD 47's and those so far have burned the best, but I think I'm gonna go up to a RRD50 and see what those do. As far as packaging, I considered putting them in a cello bag with a tie and label, but I think what I'm gonna do is to put them in the loaf pans and use the clear dome type lids and put a tie and label around it. I will post a pic of the finished product once I EVER get finished testing these wicks. Portia
  18. Yea, that might help wouldn't it Candleman,,,,LOL The finished candle measures 5 1/2 long x 3 1/5 wide. I'm using 4045H w/1 1/2 TBSP stearic/lb and 1 oz fo. Portia
  19. I have a # silicone loaf mold and I'm using 4045H wax. I have tried the following with no success. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I pull my hair out? TIA Portia 51-32z - Leaves too much shell 60z - Leaves too much shell and smokes w/tall flame 51-32C - Leaves too much shell 60C - Leaves too much shell and smokes 62C - Leaves too much shell, smokes and has a huge flame
  20. I use either a pillar, votive or embed wax to dip mine. You definitely want a harder wax, not container. I have even used hurricane wax to dip. As far as the size, it doesn't matter what size animal you dip, works just like a large one. HTH Portia
  21. Top: Not that it's the "right" way to do it, but I test alot of candles in the same room (spaced apart) when I'm just testing a wick size. When I'm testing for scent throw on the other hand, I put them in my bathroom and only test the one candle at the time. I honestly don't see where testing more than one candle in the same room would cause that much difference in the burn if you're only testing the wick size. But, then again, I've been known to do things bass ackwards,,,,LOL HTH Portia
  22. I ordered a mold from them last year and they were slow "due to an illness" then. Sent emails, no replys, tried phoning, no answer. After roughly 3 weeks, she did send me a nasty email saying that her molds were poured once she rec'd the orders and that it DID take time to make a mold. FINALLY after 6 weeks, I rec'd my mold and put her on the DO NOT ORDER FROM list. Her customer service and ship time is the worse if you ask me. I figure if you have that much illness in your family then you need to get out of the business and concentrate on the family. JMO,,,,Portia
  23. I don't have my notes with me right at the moment, but if I remember correctly I think it was the RRD37 that worked in almost every fragrance that I tested. I would suggest starting with that and working up or down as needed. HTH Portia
  24. I have great success with RRD's in Palm. Only time I had a blowout was when my wick was too big. It does make some beautiful pillars, but my problem with it was the fact that my pillars would fade (even with UV) really bad over a period of time. Portia
  25. I am testing these now and so far so good, but haven't burned one all the way down yet. I applied 3 coats of decopodge to mine. Will see what happens once it reaches the bottom and post then. HTH Portia
