  1. I did try clear crystals from a local supplier. This is what his site says. "Clear Crystals: A polymer that is designed to raise the melting point of the wax, making the wax harder and longer burning while retaining its translucence. Often used in wax for doing overdips on tapers etc." Package says 1tsp pp. I got no mottling and the wax stayed quite translucent (tried it with both color and without). The only question that I had was how much the melt point is raised. Can't seem to get an answer.
  2. Those jars are sooo pretty. Like the shapes. Must try them again sometime.
  3. Knew there was someone out there:cheesy2:. Thanks Fern, I appreciate your help. So you take the wick pin out, put the wick in, do your repour, then unmold your candle after the repour sets up, or do you take the candle out of the mold first? I've also used a dropper to put a little clear wax around the hole, waited until it dried and smoothed it off. A little circle form around the wick. Its ok, but not perfect (the way I want it lol:cheesy2: ). Anyone else have a different trick up their sleeve:grin2: ?
  4. Don't think I've seen this question asked before so I hope its not only me that has this problem:rolleyes2 . When I use wick pins in test pillars and the wick hole is always larger in circumference than the wick. I prime the wicks before inserting them. When I light the candle, the wick dies almost right down and then kind of flares up again when it catches some fuel (wax) and starts burning. This is ok for me because I know this is going to happen. However, If I bought one and didn't know this I would think the wick is not going to stay lit. Would like to make several candles with using wick pins instead of just the testers. How do you people that use wick pins solve this problem?
  5. Glad to see you posting again. Really like those. What type of wax do you use for them? I Your work has caught my son's interest. I was talking to him while looking at these and he was really impressed.
  6. Those all are wonderful. I like the second one the best.
  7. Many wax suppliers have them, but I find they are too perfect looking. Making your own is cheaper and you have more control over the type of wax.
  8. Interesting work. Like the colors. I've also used a cold wet towel on the outside to help with the layering.
  9. You can let the wax partially set up in the mold, the bottom will have a thin coating. When this happens, you can set your wick down into the wax but it has to be a tabbed one. Then let it set up and do your repour if necessary (gives a better look). I've used tooth picks or broken up bamboo sticks to keep the wick straight while the wax is setting up.
  10. Nice remelts. Exactly what I'm doing this week.
  11. I'd be really happy with those to. Can smell them from here:D
  12. I wait until the tops are completely cool (you can tell when they have a fairly deep well on top. (Found this was the trick when I left them overnight once before repouring) When I do the repour I heat the tops with my heatgun (to a thin melt layer) and then pour. This helps the tops to adhere and to eliminate a repour line. It works well.
  13. really like the green ones too.
  14. Nothing special, but thought I would melt down some of the single candles I've made from sample FOs and different pillar waxes. These were made from a creamy praline pecan sample. I added creme brulee to make two - one for me to sample and one to sell. They smell absolutely yummy. Planning to have a total meltdown week:cheesy2:
  15. I'd be proud of those too. Great work!
  16. Your candles are lovely. Would love to see more:D
  17. Like the plumbers putty because its white and the other mold sealers always left some yuckky grey residue when I use wick pins.
  18. I'm from Canada too and the FO prices are astronomical. For example a local supplier is charging $25.44 (CDN) for 7oz of French Vanilla verses PEAKS in the US is $9.50 (AM) for 8 oz. PEAKS is every bit as good. So I find that if I put in a larger order for several things to PEAKS, I save alot of money, even with the exchange and delivery. Would love to join in on a co-op, but the cost of shipping to the west coast is also so much. Recently, I ordered some wicks from the east because I couldn't get them here. The delivery cost was $9.50 for a tiny package.
  19. MMMMM. They look delicious. Question on remelting. I always wonder if I should add a little FO when I remelt. Do you do that or just remelt at a really low temp. Had some I remelted at a really low temp and noticed that the cold trow wasn't as good as the others but can never rely on my candle nose anymore. Have you noticed a difference?
  20. They look great. Love the purple.
  21. All reall nice. Love the log cabin ones too.
