  1. Why is everyone listing scents that aren't in the BOGO sale? I believe the point of the original post was "Any reviews on these scents that are BOGO this week?"
  2. Captivatingly Currant Orange Clove Love both of these! CC is very tart. OC is a perfect combination of the 2 scents. Just poured my sample of Perfect Pear this morning. If it goes well, I'll be adding that one to my list as well.
  3. Cindy, Did you happen to reply to an email that was supposedly sent from paypal asking you to update your information by such and such a date or your account would be cancelled? I've received 2 of those spoof emails (1 from paypal and the other from chase bank).
  4. I am by no means, a pro. I have done only one show so I can't really comment on your whole set-up. The first thing that jumps out at me is that there is so much to choose from. I'm not saying that's good or bad. Personally, I like variety. Maybe some day I'll be able to offer many of the things that you have. The only thing that I would be concerned about is (if it's an outdoor show) that your little price cards will blow away. Sorry I'm not more help.
  5. We can always count on Top for the technical and very accurate information. Most of us know what to do to get a desired result but Top understands why that result is achieved. Top
  6. I got one too. Here's the description from their website. "Maple, sweet spices, coconut, and vanilla accents on a crisp ozonic base of linen." It's a bit floral for my taste but I'm not passing judgement until it's in wax.
  7. These are all great ideas. Absolutely no offense is taken on any of your comments. I welcome constructive criticism. It only helps to make a better product & presentation. I've always appreciated the helpful advice of everyone from the seasoned professionals to the newbies on this board. Please keep it coming. Our initial idea was to keep it simple so as to not overwhelm the customer. We took the advice from a friend to put the table at the front of the tent because many people would feel intimidated if they had to walk into it. I will definitely look into getting another table and making more displays when money permits. I hadn't thought about putting more than one of each scent on display. Chele, are you suggesting adding another table to make an "L" shape or put them parallel to eachother? Again, thank you everyone!
  8. I never thought of it that way, Bruce. This is a display of all our scents. We have many boxes under the table full of the candles that we sell. We've been doing this since October and have 24 scents. We're slowly adding more scents but we're taking our sweet time to develop and test each one extensively. BTW, loved your afro in 1975!
  9. Good idea with the tealights. I don't make them yet and probably can't with my wax (comfort blend). I do, however, have printouts of my scents with full descriptions of each. That's what's on the table in front of the credit card signs.
  10. Nice & sunny in the upper 80's. Typical for central TX.
  11. My wife and I had our first show this weekend. We didn't get the traffic we were promised but we sold enough to pay for the registration fee. Also, we got 3 wholesale inquiries Oh, and I made the displays myself. TexasBrat showed up to say hi too.
  12. Any floral. Especially Amber Romance and it's my best seller by far.
  13. I've only tried JS Orange Clove and like it alot in wax.
  14. You have space? What's that and where can I get some?
  15. Not sure how to suggest that you organize. I do have a tip I'd like to share though. If all you can see is the tops of your bottles when they're in a drawer, get some round labels that would be the right size for your caps. Write the name of the oil on the label and put the label on top of the cap. That way, you don't have to pick up every bottle to find the oil you're looking for. You know that no matter which oil you're looking for or where you start, it will always be the last bottle you look at.
  16. There is Starrville in Tyler. That's not too far from Dallas. But I don't believe they carry 1343. http://www.starrvillesoapsupplies.com/index.html
  17. I don't care for florals either but my wife likes the lavender vanilla. I already have orders for 2 of them and I'm not even done testing it yet. Must be good.
  18. I've seen this at office depot before. It's a magnetic sheet about 1/16" thick that's white on one side. If your printer can handle the thickness, you can just print it yourself. If you can't do it yourself, you can have it done at any printing service. A word of warning though: If you do not use waterproof ink, guess what happens the first time it rains? Also, no matter what type of ink you use, it WILL fade fairly quickly. My advice is to spend a couple more dollars and have a sign shop either screen print or apply vinyl lettering to your magnets. They'll last a whole lot longer. Heck, for the cost of the Avery magnets + printing, a sign shop might even be cheaper. Plus, a sign shop can make them in any size or shape you want. You're very limited to the size the Avery ones come in. I've only seen them in 8.5" x 11". That, in my opinion, is way too small for car door magnets. You need to be right up next to the car to read them. I worked in a sign shop for 4 years and made many of these magnets. The minimum size we ever recommended was 12" x 18" (twice the size of the Avery's).
  19. This has posted in the candle making section. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20056
  20. Try Ctrl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste if you're using a windows based PC. If you're using a Mac, I can't help you.
  21. At first, I was using shot glasses and measuring cups. After I emptied my first plastic FO bottle, I cut the top off and whittled it away until it weighed exactly 1/2 oz. Now, I don't bother with the tare function. I know that if I need 3 oz, I stop when it reads 3.5 oz. If I go over a bit I use a plastic droppers (www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com) to take out a bit at a time. Once I've used a dropper for a certain scent, I use a rubberband to keep it with the bottle of FO.
  22. JS has a FO called Baby Magic. It's good and throws great but I prefer Baby Powder (also from JS).
  23. I'm getting ready to do my first fund-raiser. In my case, it's for a not-for-profit agency. Because of that status, tax is not collected on the portion of proceeds that will be donated to the agency. I do, however, have to collect sales tax on the portion that I will be keeping to recover my cost. Example: If I sell a candle for $12 and my cost to make the candle is $3, I charge tax only on the $3. To make it easy on everyone involved I would include the tax in the sale price. Sales tax in my area is 8.25% . So, 3 x 8.25% = .25 -- I keep $3.25 and donate the remaining $8.75 Just make sure to keep all sales records and get a receipt from the organization in case you are ever audited. Again, this is how it works for a not-for-profit agency. If your organization is a for-profit, that might be a whole different ball game. HTH
  24. Thank you for your help everyone. I'll look into DPG. Although, it may not be for a while yet.
