  1. I don't know about the Spiced Ginger vs. Ginger Spice but I tried Spiced Cranberry from WSP and Cranberry Spice from JS and they are completly different. The one from WSP has an over powering cinnamon fragrance and the one from JS is a more accurate cranberry (IMO). HTH
  2. Thank you, all for your replies. And thank you, Stephanie for the hot plate recommendation.
  3. Bunny, you've had fires with electric but not gas? Sounds like the opposite of what I've read. :undecided
  4. My understanding is that the heated wax could ignite with an open flame. I know that should only happen if the temperature got to the waxes flash point but with a double boiler the wax can't get over 212*, right?
  5. I have only been making candles for a couple months now but before I started, I read as much as possible about the process. One thing that was stressed and reiterated was to NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use a gas stove - only electric. For this reason, I have been melting and mixing color and/or FO in my presto pot. It's been working well but I would really like to put a spigot on my presto and use it just for melting. It gets a bit tiring having to clean out my presto every time I change what I'm pouring. Does anyone use a gas stove? Should I invest in a hot plate? Any recommendations for one?
  6. OK, I got the sample and poured it in some Comfort Blend. Smells great in the wax and has a fantastic cold throw. I'm not familiar with wassail so I don't know first hand what it's supposed to smell like but my DW said it's pretty accurate. Problem is that it's a Christmas present to her best friend, Tracie, who lives about 4 hours away. Tracie will have to be told that it hasn't been tested yet and I'll have to make sure she knows exactly how it should be burned and what to look for. *fingers crossed* I hate sending an un-tested candle but, I only had enough FO for 1 candle and apparently, there's something personal between them about wassail so it had to go out.
  7. No one at all has ever tried this FO? NO ONE?
  8. To me, it smells like orange tootsie pops. I make mine a brownish-orange.
  9. I have searched all the review boards that I know (fragrancefinder, grandscentral & scentforum) in addition to Candletech. I can not find a single word about this FO other than the description on JS. I have a sample that's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Anybody used this FO? If so, how do you rate it compared to other Wassail scents? TIA
  10. I got a couple samples from them when I was there last. Pecan Sandies wasn't that great. Orange Vanilla smells good in wax after about a week of curing - haven't burned it yet though. Are you familiar with this site? http://grandscentral.com/ There are very few reviews for their FO's but one or two might help.
  11. I just used a cheap software program that I've had for years. Create-a-card from American Greetings (I think). The label material is full sheet matte label paper #8165 from Avery.
  12. Yeah, I hope no one decides to try and eat it. With using Comfort Blend, it kinda has the same consistency of caramel too.
  13. Thank you, everyone! Your comments really make me feel good about them. Especially from all you experts and veterans of the candle world.
  14. I've been working hard for the past 2 months to get these done to give as Christmas presents. I have a dozen of each so far. This is my first attempt at making candles and I'm hooked. I tested 4 different waxes, 2 different jars, about a half dozen different FO's and 4 different wicks. Exhausting! I've settled on Comfort blend wax with CD wicks for these. The Spiced Cranberry is a Spiced Cranberry FO from WSP and the Caramel Candy is Chestnuts & Brown Sugar from JS. Both of them have fantastic hot and cold throw. Hope everyone likes them. Now I need to get more wax and FO.
  15. That is a good price, especially if you can pick them up locally. I have found them for $4.08 per case of 12 at WSP but then I have to pay shipping on top of that. I like the ones they have because 2 of the sides are smooth for labels. Here's the link to the ones I get. It shows the dimensions along with a picture. http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ProductDetail.aspx?Tab=2&CatalogID=3&CatalogTitle=0&ProductID=3878 HTH
  16. I have a sample of it and it smells great OOB. Haven't poured it yet though.
  17. Pouring about a dozen Spiced Cranberry in 16oz mason jars for Christmas presents. May do some more Chestnuts and Brown Sugar too. Funny thing is, I end up having to keep making more because I can't resist burning them myself. santalol
  18. 16oz Masons here. http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ProductDetail.aspx?Tab=2&CatalogID=3&CatalogTitle=0&ProductID=3878
  19. I understand that some of you use a heat gun to level off container candles but my question is this: How do you heat the top of the candle enough to level the candle wax without taking the priming wax off the wick? BTW, I'm experimenting with Comfort Blend, J50, J223 and Crafter's Choice SP in 16oz square mason jars. Everything but the J223 has needed a second pour. Also, any recommendations for heat guns would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
  20. That's too bad. Maybe I'll add a little Spiced Cranberry to it and see how it turns out. Problem is, I only have a 1 oz sample and DW wants to make a 16 oz mason jar candle with it for her friend. This will have to be a one shot deal and her friend will have to be the tester. Thanks for the input.
  21. I just got a sample of BCS's Holiday Wassail and it smells great OOB. Anybody tried it? Anybody recommend who has the best Wassail scent? -Jeff
  22. Maybe I got an odd batch. I love this scent but I don't smell any brown sugar. To me, and everyone else who has smelled it in the comfort blend that I use in square mason jars, it smells like a combination of caramel and vanilla.
  23. I don't use soy either but I just started using the Chestnuts & Brown Sugar and it is now my favorite. The overwhelming scent that I detect from it is caramel in my Comfort Blend. Is that how it's supposed to smell? -Jeff
  24. ditto for oldwillknott.com this is the one I got: http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=107 But, check out their auctions on ebay. I ended up paying $40 (including shipping). Jeff
