Frasier Fir is the only candle my husband ever picks up in a store and asks me to make. So I have tried a few versions of it. To my nose, WSP has a dead on match. Fragrance Buddy is completely different and smells nothing like the original by Thymes. I just got a couple sample bottles from Candle Science when I noticed they have a few new scents on their site. The CS smells close, but not as close as the WSP. I have not used it yet, but will most likely just mix it with WSP when I do.

I ordered a ton of samples because I try to only place 2 orders a year from RE because their shipping is so high to CA. I get bigger bottles of all my favorites that I am out of, and sample bottles of everything I like, plus whatever I want to try. Then If there are any I want more of, I will place one more smaller order for just 4 or 8 ounce bottles of those. I am a hobbyist with a serious fragrance oil addiction. I ended up paying $46 in shipping! But the stand outs of the ones new or new to me were these: Violet Leaf and Sweet Grass. I love Lone Star's Lemongrass Sage scent, but it has phathalates in it so I have been on the hunt for one that smells similar to it. Rustic just had their sample sale, and one of the samples I got is it! The name is completely different. Violet Leaf and Sweet Grass. I also tried Lumberjack. It smells like Tennessee Candles This Old House to me. I can't believe they are discontinuing Lavender Poundcake. Everyone that smells it loves it.

I have tried Candle Wic wood wicks and do not like them. I find they smoked too much for me, no matter what I did. I have also tried Lone Star's. I have hit or miss luck with those. When they work, they are wonderful. I have had the most success in the 16 oz mason jar with the large size wick. But some of them smoke, some do not crackle and some just go out. I do not sell, so I don't have to worry about it, but even making them as a hobby I find they are just too unreliable. I do not give any candles made with them as gifts because of this. To me, a smokey wick is unacceptable. I do not advise using them in Palm wax, this never worked for me. I only use them in soy containers.

Some of my favorites are: Original Herbal Essences from Sweetcakes. It smells the closest to the real original shampoo from the 70's, not that 80's stuff most suppliers think is the original. This stuff has a powerful throw in soy, and is great in bath & body. Lemon Curd from RE Santa's Whiskers from RE Day at the spa from CS Cedarwood Vanilla from CS Dove from Save on Scents. Just like the soap, and very strong throw Lavender from CS Frasier Fir from WSP Lavender Poundcake from Lonestar Gardenia from Peak Gingerbread from CS I could go on and on... The worst ones I have ever smelled are Lemon Meringue Pie from RE and Corriander Citrus from RE.

They have added scents to the fragrance oil clearance section, so it looks like they will release the new ones soon.

Thanks for the offer Belinda! I was away and did not check this again until now. I did end up ordering some from FB, and it will be here tomorrow. On the fragrance twin list, the person who posted about Welcome Home being a match was talking about Brambleberry's Welcome Home, not Rustic Escentuals. I also have had a sample of the RE version of WH, and I agree, it's totally different.

Thank You! I looked at the Fragrance Twins list and see that a few years back someone said that Brambleberry has a match, Welcome Home. Can anyone verify if it is the same, to make sure they have not changed it? I'm wary because on the same list someone else said that Candle Makers store had a match, Silver Bells, but someone else bought it and said it is not a match at all.

Hello all, does anyone know if the fragrance oil sold under the name This old house by Tennessee candle supply is sold by anyone else under a different name, or if the only other one I have found, sold by Fragrance Buddy is the same thing? (I have not checked their prices or shipping costs yet) I had a one ounce sample of it a while back and want to order some more, but the shipping to me from TN is almost as much as the bottle since I'm in CA. I don't need anything else from there, so I can't justify paying that much for shipping. I know that Lone Star has a very similar scent, Mango Beach Wood, and since I do get other things from them, I could just get that in my next order, but I think I prefer the This old house. Help?

Thank you Vicki. That makes a lot more sense to me than taking out a policy as if I am a business, which I am not. I do have HO insurance, and I will be looking into that. I do tell the people I give candles to to read the warning label, follow those instructions, and never leave a candle burning unattended. I also harp continuously about trimming the wicks before each and every burn. Maybe from now on I will just give them melts.

I gather what you are saying then is that I was misinformed and that anyone that makes a candle for a gift may be sued if the candle is involved in a fire regardless of the reason. If this is really true, then I may just never give another candle to anyone ever again. That solves the problem! I wonder if there is any kind of insurance policy that covers hobbies rather than a real candle business. I'm talking about giving away 10 - 20 a year, not selling hundreds or thousands a year.

I make candles as a hobby. In the past I thought I may open a business someday, but have decided to remain hobby only. I do give my candles as gifts to friends and family. The reason I decided against going pro is that of course I would do everything right to set up my business, insurance, register, ect...but still worry about someone doing something stupid with my candles. My candles are as good or better than any I have seen for sale both in stores and craft fairs as I have been at this a few years now and have done extensive testing. I only give out candles I know are well made and have warning stickers on them. So, do I need insurance anyway? I was told a while back that I did not need it unless I was actually going to sell, which I am not. I just want to be sure. I really don't want to have to pay for insurance on top of an already expensive hobby.

To me Tobacco smells exactly like Jean Natae colonge. I made a sample candle of it but have yet to burn it. The only other one on your list I have tried was Clover Leaf. I got a sample size but hate it so have not used it. It does not have much of a green scent. Just stinks imo.
