  1. This is what I found on their website: Kind of tricky of them to put the 4.95 handling fee in the fine print.
  2. Okay, let me try: http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.A44023.cm_scid.crtr
  3. Yes, using 4 oz for 4 lbs would be the equivalent of using 1 oz with 1 lb of wax. Had you made your 4 lb batch in 4 separate batches of 1 lb each, you would have also used 4 oz of FO.
  4. Oh my, I wonder how long she expected it to last?! It would be like me trotting to the grocery store to complain that the loaf of bread I bought one year ago has turned moldy. Yes, I would write back to explain how the scent will eventually dissipate after several rounds of heating, and that the best solution is to replace the candle with a new one.
  5. Glad to hear you got your money back. As a precaution, you could get your credit card number changed now, so that even if they tried to bill you on 6/20, it wouldn't work.
  6. You could go personally to your City Hall and ask them. That's how I got the ball rolling.
  7. It's all right, CareBear. I didn't take it that way and I don't think the OP did either.
  8. Yes, it really depends on the postal clerk, some will close one eye and just send it along while others stick by the rules. Officially you aren't supposed to alter the shape of the envelope. I think when they came out with this envelope, it was intended for sending documents, which is why it isn't gusseted and you really have to wiggle hard to get a 3-dimensional object in there.
  9. Jadewicks, the store mentioned in post #14 sells them in sheets. Freezer paper: http://www.pospaper.com/freezer-24-24-sheets.html Or butcher paper: http://www.pospaper.com/24x24bupash.html
  10. I wasn't aware of the difference (between tray and slab) either. :embarasse I've been calling them tray molds because I got mine from MMS and that's what they call them.
  11. netje, you are correct that soap isn't considered a cosmetic (at least for now) and those who make soap wouldn't be affected by this proposed new legislation. However most soapmakers also make other related items, such as lip balm, which would fall under this new ruling if it were to take effect.
  12. I've only tried the one from Peak. At the time I hadn't smelled the B&BW version (we don't have this store nearby). Then one day at someone's house I washed my hands at their kitchen sink with their liquid soap. The scent was exactly the same as my BS&F candle. I was confused, LOL, and looked around for a candle. Then I realized it was the liquid soap, and I saw it from from B&BW, in the BS&F scent. So I know Peak's dupe is accurate.
  13. As long as you don't pour at too thin a trace, they should stay where they are once you've mixed everything properly. It's the same idea as the salt in the salt bars.
  14. Yeah, that is the trouble with salt bars, if there is humidity in your air. I would just take a paper towel and pat them dry at regular intervals. As far as I know, it doesn't affect anything.
  15. I have a bunch of these: http://www.thesage.com/catalog/TrayMolds.html The soap comes out scored so cutting is easy. But they can't go in the oven so getting your soap to gel completely may be tricky unless you have something like heated blanket you could put underneath. If you're looking for something which you can use daily, then I'd recommend something more heavy duty, more durable. I've had these several years but don't use them every day which is why they've lasted all this while.
  16. Scented, is it safe for me to come out of the bomb shelter yet? LOL just kidding!
  17. Oh and I added the FO to the oils, before adding the lye solution. This buys you an extra few seconds LOL.
  18. LOL my recipe went something like this: 40% RBO 40% coconut 10% shea 10% castor. I used milk (raw milk from jersey cow) for the liquid and did about a 23% lye solution. It was the sweet pumpkin spice FO from peak, then I colored it orange using some turmeric. Let's just say there is no time to stop and smell the pumpkin LOL.
  19. LOL after all this talk about pumpkin I decided I couldn't wait until the fall. So I went ahead and made up a batch to try. Mmm it smells good. You have to work fast though.
  20. It depends on the FO too. The ones I use are generally supposed to be used at 1/2-1 oz per lb of wax (3-6%) according to the manufacturer's instruction. I don't just go with what the wax can hold, but also what the FO usage rate is supposed to be.
  21. Best of luck, Tootie! By the way, which Canyon Creek were they using? Not the one in John Day, is it? I ask because they're local to my area.
  22. I have the sweet pumpkin spice from peak and it says it's suitable for B&B. I haven't soaped it yet but plan to later this year to give as Christmas gifts. I won't be using any pumpkin puree, will just use an FO and color it orange.
  23. Next time just ignore it. I don't even try contacting them. It is just like when you are at the department store and pick out a few items, then when you're standing in line at the cashier, you change your mind and put them back.
  24. I didn't put mine in the fridge. Just let it out at room temp. If your house isn't very hot, you might be able to get away with that. Especially if the mold you are using is not the type which keeps the heat in. I used my milky way mold, the one where I couldn't get the soap to gel and which couldn't go in the oven either.
  25. What cart are you using, IslandGirl? I use Mal's and wasn't aware you could have it not record anything until payment has been completed. It's not a problem for me, because all it takes is for me to match the orders with the payments to see which are the genuine orders.
