  1. Cocoa butter will give you a hard bar too. So does shea butter.
  2. Midsummer Night and Mountain Lake from Peaks are nice. They're both manly scents.
  3. I got mine from www.oldwillknott.com. It is the Royal EX5 and weighs to the nearest 0.1 ounce. I use it both for weighing FO and for weighing wax. Depending on the model you get, expect to spend $20-30. Shipping will be another $6-7 (by usps priority mail).
  4. Could consider Fedex Ground. Their prices are much more reasonable than UPS, though I don't know how carefully they treat the packages. A 14 lb package costs between $5.44 and $10.93 to send, depending on where it's going, compared with $9.10 - $16.80 for UPS Ground, and $10.55 - $26.05 for USPS Priority Mail.
  5. In October there might be people who are starting their Christmas gift shopping. If you've already paid a deposit it may be worth giving it another try.
  6. Mary, it also helps if your customer can provide you with an address (e.g. their office) where the package will be taken indoors immediately instead of sitting out on their porch for several hours. I've had success doing it this way for packages going to Phoenix where it's 120 degrees.
  7. I tried this once using red mica (not sure if that's considered natural) from MMS. It did color my lips well, I'd say it was halfway between a lip gloss and a lipstick.
  8. I believe it should work. For making soap, you need technical grade lye (100% lye which is at least 97% pure). If yours is 99.99% pure that is even better and is probably their laboratory grade. Usually we don't buy that as it's way more expensive than the technical grade which is good enough for soap making.
  9. I got round stickers (1" diameter) from onlinelabels.com. I checked to see if they have 1-1/4" ones - the closest I could see was 1.2".
  10. Most of my orders do fit in a flat rate box (#FRB1). For those few that don't, I pay the difference, I do not go back to the customer to ask for more money.
  11. I voted for pot, because it is not applied directly to the lips, so it can be shared with others.
  12. I have been wanting to get Spruce Christmas Tree to try for this year's holiday season. Eugenia, it sounds like you are able to sell this year round and not just in the fall/winter? Does anyone else have other Christmas scents that do well year round? Reason I'm asking is that there are a few holiday scents I like very much (e.g. Home for the Holidays) and wouldn't mind having them around all year if there are people who might want to buy them.
  13. Jeana - their shipping is a base rate of $8.90 for the first pound plus a little under $1 per pound for each additional pound. So, it gets cheaper the more you order.
  14. I use Go Daddy and find them to be both reliable and reasonably priced. I paid around $8 (annual fee) to register my domain name with them. Web hosting is something like $3.95 a month. If you can afford a paid domain, I'd say go for it, as it gives you more credibility as a real business who's here to stay.
  15. Daniedb, I do have a CP bar formulated for the face. You can check it out at my site which is listed in my signature block below.
  16. I packed them in a Priority Mail box provided by USPS and sent them by priority mail. I used packaging peanuts and bubble wrap for cushioning i.e. no special heat resistant method was used other than my normal packaging method.
  17. I was wondering the same thing too, especially if the candles are going to super hot places like Arizona. I'm more concerned about their arrival (when they sit out on someone's porch waiting for someone to get home and bring them inside) than the transit. So far I've successfully mailed candles to Arizona, but in those cases, the recipient was home to receive them immediately. I'm wondering what to do for shipments to people who may not be home when it arrives.
  18. As far as I know, the higher density plastic bottles (e.g. PET) will work for EO's. Don't use the softer, lower density plastics like LDPE, those may not withstand the EO if it's at a high %.
  19. I've been using a glue stick to paste my labels onto my glass jars. It's been working okay, though I'm sure there are many other good ways to do this.
  20. I remember not being able to get the free shipping option to work. In the end I got around it by selecting the flat amount and then entering the shipping price for the discount amount. The other options worked fine for me. I also remember it took me a while to figure out what this voucher mask was all about, as it seemed more complicated than it needed to be.
  21. I have ordered from them before. The EO's are good quality. I got 8 different ones (1 lb each) and the shipping came up to about $15. They sent it by FedEx Ground and it took about a week from the time I placed the order.
  22. If you don't already have an agreement, I think just bringing samples will do. The shop might have their own agreement form if they specialize in consignments. Each shop is different, some are more formal about things, while others are not.
  23. I've come across stores where they either refund the difference if it fits into a flat rate box, or they don't tell you the grand total until after you've placed your order. While these two methods come up with the most accurate total, I personally don't like them as it's a hassle to both you and the customer. One way for you to decide on what shipping amount to charge might be to look at where most of your customers live and what is their typical order. If they're mostly on the west coast this may not be an issue as the postal rates only get real high if you're sending something heavy to the east coast.
