anabanana's candles
Has anyone else noticed that this has dissapeared off of their shelves. None of the Lowes in my area carry it. Where else can I get lye???
WendyByTheBay
Where I live you can not buy it in stores anywhere.I get mine from http://www.aaa-chemicals.comThey have great customer service:)
MikeInPdx
Some of the online soap suppliers like Brambleberry carry it. I think you have to fax them a hazmat waiver....I've never shipped it.....I buy it online and pick up locally.
jessi
I get Rooto 100% Lye at TruValue Hardware stores and Menards. It's always on the shelves. This is in Minnesota, so your findings may vary. I have also ordered from aaa-chemicals. Good luck!
Darbla
Yep. I was looking for it last month in my Lowe's, but it was nowhere to be found.I get Rooto 100% Lye at TruValue Hardware stores and Menards. It's always on the shelves. This is in Minnesota, so your findings may vary. My TruValue has this too, so maybe it's pretty common.
Scent Cellar
You can order it in bulk from Boyer. Nice & free flowing and doesn't clump.
JacquiO
Both Lowes by me clearanced it.I bought a bunch of the Roebic lye when I saw it on clearance. When I run out I'll probably contact the store managers to see if I can get it special ordered. I was just wondering if anyone else has done so with any success. CareBear
I asked and they said they can't order it because they can't sell it - corporate policy.
cdesousa5
They have stopped carrying Lye because people were using it to make Crystal Meth. I have found it at my local Ace hardware.
JacquiO
Thanks Carebear for letting me know what they said. I'll have to look into other options when the time comes.
Meridith
They have stopped carrying Lye because people were using it to make Crystal Meth. I have found it at my local Ace hardware.Yep we all know that those meth heads ruined it for all us soapers. Not all Ace's carry it either which is a bummer. RNSandSCENTS
I get Rooto 100% Lye at TruValue Hardware stores and Menards. It's always on the shelves. This is in Minnesota, so your findings may vary. I have also ordered from aaa-chemicals. Good luck! There is another thread about this that was post like in October or so. In that thread, I remember someone saying Rooto was not good to soap with....well the reviews were kind of a mixed bag but mostly not good. Is there a trick to using Rooto that you don't have to use if you use Roebic? Just curious because I can get Rooto locally at Ace.
powderblueboutique
Come to think of it, I started having problems with my soap when I started using rooto. Inconstistant results, and dreaded orange spot. I wouldn not recommend it.

dogmom1
hi,If you decide to buy from the internet, the lye guy is in syracuse ny, shipping shouldn't be bad to ohio. he does a buy 6 and the 6th is free. he sells 2 pound containers and carries both NAOH and KOH.i've only had one order from him so far, but i found him friendly and helpful with my questions. www.thelyeguy.comhth,eileen

Labgal
I had run out of the lye I had purchased from AAA and had to buy the Roebic at Lowe's just this past weekend. It was $12.98 for a 2 lb container!!!!:shocked2: Last time I purchased it, it was less than $9.00!! Luckily I am finished making soap for the year, and will buy in bulk from AAA in January. soycrazy
Geez they sure did jack up the price. Has anyone tried essential depot they have some pretty good prices. I also found a ace online that sells a 12 pack of the 1lb rooto for $30. I like the rooto bottles, because they are small.

LuminousBoutique
TruValue is the only place in my town to buy it. I dont make enough soap right now to order it online but in a few months I might have to. My biggest problem is that no matter how well I store it, my Roebics has been getting clumpy in the sealed container, so I need to buy them one at a time. frustrating.
