beauloser
I spent 2 hours sifting these teeny tiny shells from the Virginia Beach shoreline (on our honeymoon)...I still have about 2lbs of shells left over, but I don't want to make hurricanes for sale with the shells in them b/c of the sentimental value(sappy I know)...any creative suggestions as to what to make with the rest of the shells? Scented
man that's a lot of shells lol! How about an aquarium with fish lol! Actually if you do the candle jewelry I bet you could make something cool with the shells.
sharyl55
Glad you had a wonderful time in VA Beach. You were only 1/2 hr from our cottage. Be sure to boil the shells for 1/2 hr. to kill any little critters that live in the sand/water/etc. You could put the remaining shells in a clear glass lamp base. Then put the lamp on your night stand so it's the last thing you see at night. Love your hurricane. Know how much time it takes to sift and clean those small shells. David
Really nice effect. Maybe a paper weight for the rest in one of those expoy molds?

Mozzie
Love what you've done and amazed that you found time to collect shells on your honeymoon. How about putting them in a large, shallow bowl and floating small candles on top? I'm sure that whatever you decide it'll look terrific. Keep that creativity flowing. Donita
That is so pretty and sooooooooooo special...I collected shells from VA Beach this year too. I also buy them from a huge wholesaler. Have you seen the "Tidepool" sandcandles on my website? They are fun to do. I just sold one this week and need to make some more....they go pretty fast. As far as cleaning...a little bleach kills germs and makes them shinny too. I am posting a picture of some soap dishes that I made several years ago...they have faded....they were pink and blue.....I bought cheap plastic soap dishes and used them for molds. One of my friends just asked me for a new one...hers has lasted a long time...it is her favorite soap dish. kuepie
I think that is an awesome, awesome, candle. Don't worry about being sappy, you cannot believe some of the silly things I have saved.
Mtngrl
LOVE it! Kinda looks a little funny with the shells not going all the way to the top, but not bad. It occurs to me that if I made one, I'd put an inch or two of sand on the bottom (since nothing will be illuminated by flame anyway). It also occurs to me that might appear to be severly (?) disproportionate - a little bit of sand w/ a lot of shells. Usually, on most (?) beaches ,it'd be the other way around - a lot of sand w/ some shells. Now I just wanna play in sand, shells & wax! I love what you did with the mini shells. What does it look like when you've got a votive burning inside?
Paulette
Very pretty. I like the idea of the paperweight. I too have alot of shells. I have two lamps with shells in them and love them so that is a good idea too.
beauloser
Thank-you all for the comments and wonderful suggestions...I really like the lamp idea, but want to try the paperweight idea too...I have shells from every trip we have ever taken to the beach, so I should have enough shells to try both!
