I totally agree Maryann. My first few batches went right in the trash. Now I have my own recipe that I have tweaked. Just keep good notes once you get it the way you want it. If you need help just holler
I use the calc on Summer Bee Meadow's site and if you set the supperfat to -12.5% it closely resembles the recipes in CF's book. You then have to neutralize it. That's how I make mine and always get clear soap with a ph of about 8-9 which is what the ph should be for handmade liquid soap...HTH
I keep all those (SLSa, Citric, Baking Soda, Oxides/ultamarines) in my garage along with all the other things mentioned with no problems. They are all in sealed containers though. I have been doing this for years without any problems.
I was told that a 33% discount is 2x's your lye amount. So in your recipe that calls for 7.6 Lye you would use 15.2 water. I also forgot to say that I also add just a little salt to my water before adding my lye. It helps the soap hardened faster. You can add 1/2 tsp/# of oils. Just dissolve it in your water before adding your lye. Now, I don't know if this will help you with the problem you are having but it's worth a try. I made a Castille batch yesterday with this method and was able to cut it this afternoon with no problem.
I have that same mold and don't have a problem. I read somewhere that Sunflower Oil makes for a softer soap but then you have the mango and shea butter in there so I don't know. Not sure it's the humidity. I am in Florida and it's very humid here right now. I always do a water discount too so I don't know if that would make a difference. Maybe someone else will chime in that knows better than me.
Just saw this thread. I don't any designing of anything but my own labels but would like to add that just because some one is listed here doesn't mean they are honest and you will get your website done. Ask me how I know. Just be very cautious of who you pick. The person I picked won't even answer any emails or pm's and I am out a couple hundred bucks in redesigning my site. I had to pay another person to finish it. So just buyer beware I guess.
I know this can be used on babies but how young? I made a batch yesterday that was 90% Olive Oil 10% Castile (Eugenia's recipe I believe) and my sister had a baby a few weeks ago so when it's cured I was wondering if that would be too young or not? Thanks
I use this wax and that jar and with most of my scents I use an ECO4 sometimes an ECO 6. I haven't tried the cd wicks with this wax. I have been using this wax for almost 2 years and if wicked properly you shouldn't have any soot at least I don't even when I don't trim the wicks and do marathon burns.
