  1. Ok...I have figured out almost every abbreviation on here except for HTH-what does that stand for? :embarasse
  2. thanks once again for all the advice...I loosely covered the jar with a paper towel and no air currents to really speak of-its a gorgeous 82* out here :smiley2:, but I will continue to try different things 1 AT A TIME lol....
  3. Overwicked is an understatement!! I made the mistake of trying to wick it like GB464 and I'm way off...So I tried your suggestions pertaining to wet spots (different thread) and the air bubbles, by pouring hotter at 160, lightly covering it, and prewarming the jar and I definetly had much better adhesion but the top is nowhere near as smooth and even as when I pour at 110* Don't know about the air bubbles yet, going to let this one cure for a week-seems C3 likes a little longer to cure. One of these days......
  4. WOW! I have enough problems right now testing wicks for one container and you have all of those already figured out?! :highfive: I do love how CBA takes to color and the creaminess of it but I did find I needed to increase the fo load. Have fun!
  5. I really like Mistletoe but completey agree about a burnt smell to the BNB...
  6. just my 2 cents, but when I was testing with GB464 I found that the ECO wicks work well with it...did not care for HTP or LX. I am finding that CDN's and CD's (not to be confused with CSN's) burn well with soy.
  7. I bought mine at Walmart in the kitchen section-it's digital and only cost 19.99..weighs in grams, ounces, and lbs
  8. Thanks everyone...time to pour new testers
  9. I do heat to 185*, fo 160*, smoothest top at pour temp of 110*...I have 4 other testers (different wicks-and pour temps) but I'm waiting a few more days to burn those to see how fo and ht is so I'll check for air bubbles on those as well
  10. Stella, when I temper I just melt the wax in a double boiler to 185* stirring intermittently, then I remove pour pot and place on a cutting board on counter and let cool till hardened (4 to 6 hours at least) then I remelt in double boiler to 185*-remove pot-add fo at 160* stir for 2 minutes then intermittently till pour temp...140, 130, 120, and now 110*. When I do add CO (1/2 tsp p 12oz) its done as soon as I put wax into pot before melting (during the 1st time when I temper it). I don't prewarm the fo..I wait to add it when wax cools to 160*-so far I have no complaints as far as ht goes :smiley2:
  11. In one of my testers (16oz canning jar) using C3 (no CO or additives) and CDN20 (note to self-wick DOWN) as it is burning there are little air bubbles floating in the wax Is this just what C3 does? Not concerned too much about it but haven't seen that before in CBA or 464...
  12. Not sure if this well help but for my 16oz canning jars I use 8.5% fo (1oz) to 12oz soy and for the 8oz jj I use 8.5% fo w/ 6oz soy and have not had a problem with coming up short yet...
  13. Thanks! I will try washing, prewarming, and pouring at higher temp. I gave up too quickly on 464 (burned a tester that cured for 2 weeks and wow!) but will not make same mistake twice lol-so far I really like the ct from C3 and burned a tester this morning that only cured for 3 days (wick testing-AGAIN) and was really happy with the ht already. Stella-I add the fo at 160* and have not tried pouring at such a high temp, but I'm going to temper with a little CO, then try pouring it at 160* into warmed, clean jar and see what happens.
  14. sisters3-your solution please! deb426-yes, I have noticed that on just a couple of my older ones...I just want to give the candle the best chance possible LOL!
  15. Stella, just read an old post from you where you talk about washing the jars before pouring with Parsons-I've only wiped out the glassware before pouring:embarasse..mmm think I'll start my day with a sinkful of jars thanks!
  16. Thanks...I have read where it's the temp that promotes this but my home has been right at 76 with little humidity for the past several days (Phx is great for that during fall and winter)...I'll continue to read up on this and try warming the jars first-haven't tried this yet. ?-with the C3 I seem to get smoother tops pouring at 110*-sink holes at higher temps-so would it be beneficial to still prewarm jars?
  17. I poured 6 different testers ( 2 different size jars-wicking) without tempering the wax and every one of them had wet spots...then I added the CO and tempered the wax for another tester and it had a smooth top, no frosting, and no wetspot. I have no problem continuing tempering-as long as the end result is always this consistent and that it really is the tempering doing it and not some other variable I'm not aware of yet...
  18. No matter at what pour temp I try, the C3 is giving me #*@! Today I tried tempering the wax and adding 1/2 tsp of CO, and for the first time-NO wet spot (but for how long?!). Before I continue testing would like to know if C3 should always be tempered to avoid wet spots and discourage frosting...main concern is the wet spots. I've never encountered this with CBA although I have read many posts that this is quite normal BUT I would like to do whatever I can to discourage it-TIA
  19. Congratulations! Your candles look great and the colors so rich and pretty-please post more pics and enjoy!
  20. Walmart carries a great little digital scale for 19.99 and weighs in grams, ounces, and lbs...have fun
  21. MMM...it did smell good until I started pouring April Fresh next to the Souffle and Cinn.Buns...eew
  22. I'll be waking up to Pumpkin Souffle and Cinnamon Buns...then on to some testing with a new soy wax and wicking:tongue2: Enjoy your Sunday!!
  23. I just received my C3 and poured my first candle yesterday (1st time using this wax so I still have a TON of testing to do) but I poured at a much cooler temp and got a beautiful smooth top. As Stella mentioned tho..temps are getting cooler especially where you live. I'm still in the 90's out here and that does have an effect on it.
  24. Glass jars are not all alike...safety first!! Containers not made specifically for candles need to be tested and retested to be sure they will not crack or break from the heat of a burning candle. IMO-Hobby Lobby does not sell quaility wax, fo's, or wicks that would produce a great smelling or burning candle. Search this forum-there are great suppliers out there...Peaks, CandleScience, and Millcreeek come to mind. Have Fun!
