  1. A read a post on here for silicone molds was to use a darning needle and thread the wick through the bottom of mold, I tried this method and it worked really well. Hope this helps Pam F
  2. I use the 4786 for votives, it works very well. Pam F
  3. I have been searching numerous candle supplies sites looking for metal pillar ball molds. Any site that I have looked at that and had the ball molds they were plastic. I was at one of my suppliers today and bought one of the plastic molds, I know that it work well, but want metal molds so you can get a rustic look to the candles. I know that I have seen them on one of the supply sites before, but cannot find it and have become frustrated by doing so much searching. TIA Pam F
  4. I use lx-12 in most of my votives with 4786 wax, works well for me. Pam F
  5. I find with tealights that you have to pour the wax quite cool, or your wicks fall over like you say. I use silicone and attach the wick to the bottom of the tealight before pouring, as I always found that I had a difficult time centering the wick after pouring the wax they seemed to float all over. Hope this is of some help Pam F
  6. Here is a link that somebody has posted before for soap bands, hope it's of some help. http://www.geocities.com/blueaspenoriginals/soaplabel.html Pam F
  7. I haven't tried making an unscented candle again, because I ran out of the wax more will be arriving tommorrow. I will make 2 candles one using the mineral oil, and another using the stearic. I usually use stearic when I make my candles using my 1274 wax, but had just bought a slab of 4625 to play with, and for some reason hadn't been using the stearic in it. Will post my results after I play again. Thank you Pam F
  8. Thank you, I had thought of mineral oil but wasn't sure if it would work. Thanks for the fast reply. Pam F
  9. I am looking for suggestions to use in place of a fragrance oil. I made one of the swirl candles using 4625, but didn't use any fragrance oil in, I want to make one for a wedding present, and because the bride sensitive to fragrances I can't put any fragrance in it. This was going to be my test candle, but when I attempted to take it out of the mold, it was extremely stuck and had to use my heat gun to release it. I wasn't sure if using a mold release spray would do the trick, or if I needed to add something different to the wax. TIA Pam F
  10. Factory direct Craft supplies have rusty tin plates. www.factorydirectcraft.com. I haven't ordered from them, but they have a lot of different products. I have heard positive things on another site that I frequent. Hope this is some help. Pam F
  11. I was playing with my wax last weekend, and tried a everlasting. The method that I use was. 1. To take a wad of plumbers putty and place in in the middle of the tealight holder. 2. Then positioned the holder in the middle of my mold, then pressed on it to securely attach it to my mold, making sure that no excess putty was outside of the holder so it didn't end up in my wax. 3. Sealed the hole of my mold with metal tape, to prevent leakage. 4. Poured my wax 5. After my candle was finished, removed metal tape and used one of my wick pins to separate the plumbers putty from the inside of the mold, by sticking the pin through the bottom of my mold. My candle the slid right out, and the holder centered and embeded nicely in my wax. I was using a parrafin wax to do this. The most difficult part was insuring the holder was position in the center of the mold. I had already ordered a tealight plug adapter, but was being impatient waiting for it to arrive, that I came up with the adaptation. Now wish that I hadn't wasted my money on the adapter because I found this work well. Maybe I will think differently when I actually use the adapter. Pam F Hope my information makes some sense to everybody.
  12. I use these too. I find the loop end stirs in everything very well. Pam F
  13. For Canwax's McIntosh Apple it is a Price A fragrance oil, so this makes it only 20.00 a pound. Pam F
  14. I don't know what the McIntosh apple from BCN north smells like, but I use the McIntosh apple from Canwax it has a true apple smell to it. My mother commented when I was burning candles with this oil that it smells exactly like an apple. Hope this helps Pam F
  15. I contacted BCN about their shipping today. Their response was that for Canadians orders they would still be shipped USPS, unless the order contains fragrance oils then it has to be sent UPS. They stated they have been told by the postal office that fragrance oils can no longer be sent USPS because of the flashpoint. Hope this helps PamF
  16. Prices are increasing with a lot of items, one reason is the cost of shipping of products to them. My parents are in the trucking industry, and the price of fuel keeps going up in price, and which means and increase in companies costs. Businesses have to make a profit to support themselves, and so the consumer sees the price increases. Pam F
  17. I have made a couple of the wood wick candles. I like the way the burn, but I find that with the small wick it doesn't have much of a crackling sound, but with the larger wick you can hear the crackling. I haven't burnt my candle to the bottom yet to know what happens to the wick. The one thing that I do find frustrating with them, it being able to trim the wick, I have a pair of wide pliers that I use, but they are still extremely difficult to get through. But once you start burning the candle it is really easy to keep the wick trimmed, I just turn the candle upside down over a garbage can and break it off, and it keeps the wick trimmed perfectly this way. I still have a lot of testing to do on these, and not sure that I would make the on a larger scale, but for personal use they are neat. Pam F
  18. I like the look of your candle. Also like you clear label, it really stands out against the candle. Pam
  19. I use IGI 4786 container wax for my votives. Occasionally you might have difficulty getting out of the metal mold, but once it placed in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes it come out of the mold with no difficulties. Pam
  20. A couple of weeks ago there were some very good directions on shrink wrapping votives. I have searched throughout the message boards and can't find it. I know that I originally saw it posted in the classified section, I think that it was posted by somebody who was selling shrink wrapping for votives. Any help finding this post would be appreciated Pam F
  21. Quit procrastinating and cleaning my candle area which is a complete right off, can't even get in the room without tripping over something, I am the most disorganized person at home, at work I'm very organized and have to have everything neat and organized(this makes my Mom laugh, as she knows what I'm like at home). Then have 6 scented bears to finish for a order for next week. :rolleyes2Pam F
  22. There is a lot of talk about wickless candles on the site right now. I keep thinking about making them. My questions is how hot do the tins get when they are on the warmer. In my mind the tins would get hotter then glass, maybe my thinking isn't right. But I keep thinking of safety. I know I have put glass jar on a warmer before and it didn't seem to get that hot but the wax did melt. Sorry for my rambling just trying to think out loud. Pam F
  23. I was at Wal-mart tonight, in their candle department getting some candle plates. When I decided to sniff some of their candles. They had a fragrance called Vanilla Birch that smelled really nice. Hard to describe the fragrance, it had a clear vanilla scent to it but there also was ? floral fragrance to it. Anybody have any ideas who may have a fragrance like this. I know my question is very vague, but any suggestions would help. TIA Pam F
  24. I use Good Lookin Cowboy by Daystar, and to me it has a very strong leather to me. I was really surprised how well it sold for me the past show season. One reason that sold it was the name, because everybody wanted to know what a good lookin cowboy smelled like. The leather smell seems to really appeal to horse riding type of people. Pam
