  1. Thanks for the replies everyone. Darci, I want to shop where you do cause I can't make all of the above items for 6.00 or less - if a basket would cost 1.00 that would leave only 5.00. My glass container for the candle, wax, fragrance oil, wick, labels, bags for the potpourri, label and ribbon for potpourri, fragrance oil for potpourri, air freshener - spray bottle & spray top, label, ingredience for spray including FO, the potpourri container, shrink wrap, plus I add in a little for my shipping cost of all of these items. We do not have a local candle supply store. All those items cost me more than 5.00. How in the world do you make gift baskets with the items and have all of your supplies cost less than 6.00? Please share your secret!
  2. It's my first time selling the items. I have made the soy in a different and larger container in the past. First time for the other two items. The total cost for making these items and including the glass container for the potpourr was between 10.75-12.00. The filler was free and the ribbon was 7.00 for 55yards.
  3. The basket will include 1 8oz. soy candle 1 8oz bag of potpourri 1 8oz Spray Air Freshener I have some glass containers to hold the potpourri that I may include with the basket and I am considering adding 5 tarts. The most expensive item to make was definitely the potpourri. I am not sure if I am going to continue making potpourri because people here tend to be very cheap and you can get a large bag of attractive potpourri from Walmart for less than $5.00. I don't think I can match that price and break even. Without the tarts how much would you guys price this basket? Sorry I can't include a photo - digital camera problem.
  4. I don't use this product but I was wondering if it is simply baking soda and FO? Anyone make and sell carpet fresh? If so, is there any type of warning label that must be included?
  5. Thanks for the information. I made the correction to my original question - the type of air freshener I have is a spray bottle.
  6. I've also always been pleased with Peaks and only recently ordered from Just Scents. So far everything from JS has also been good. I use soy wax and I pick both Peaks and JS!
  7. I have tried the FO and like your daughter I haven't located one yet that I liked. In addition to the two mentioned above Bittercreek north and WSP has a tommy girl. Good luck, if you find one that she likes please post.
  8. What information do you include on your labels for air freshener? Do you list your ingredience? Information that it might stain fabrics?
  9. I believe Frankincense is one of the scents used in the catholic incense. I am not sure if there are other scents also used but every mass that I have attended that used incense all smelt the same. I use soy and so far the JS FO's are working fine. So far I really like the Gingersnap Apple Butter
  10. Does anyone have a good source for baskets. I am not looking for large baskets just the size of the ones usually used for bath products. I've located a few locally but there aren't enough stocked to keep my style of basket consistant - plus they were pretty expensive!
  11. Thanks for the reply. There is at least one product that I know of that is made with grain alcohol and it is sold in the health food stores - here is a link http://healthyhouseholdproducts.com/product.php?productid=17162&send_isJS=Y&send_browser=YNY|MSIE|6|Win32|Y|1024|768| I thought maybe it depended on which state it was sold but you can ship this product to any state??? If the denatured alcohol works the same it may be better to sub. it and just use the Everclear in the holiday punch:yay: !
  12. I located one source for natural glycerin(not the synthetic) but I was hoping to compare price for the best in product and shipping. Anyone have any sources for natural glycerin?
  13. I have a recipe for an air freshener using Everclear(grain alcohol). I know that it is illegal in some states but it is sold here. I was planning to put the basic label that is on most air fresheners "Contents under pressure. Do not puncture or incinerate. Do not expose to heat or store at temperatures above 120 F/50c. Do not place in hot water or near radiators, stoves or other sources of heat. Avoid spraying in eyes or directly on skin. Use only as directed. Keep out of reach of children." Since this is not for use on the skin do I need to list the ingredience and do I need to specify GRAIN alcohol or will just alcohol be ok?
  14. I use CD wicks but was thinking about trying some of the CDN's since my sizes would change. Has anyone tried both to compare if the CDN's perform better in soy wax? I know that they have a coating that is suppose to be better for natural wax but I was wondering if anyone has really noticed any difference.
  15. Thanks for the replies and the information. I don't use zinc in my soy candles but I am sure there is a comparison wick that matches and I'll look into finding one. I have used the larger sizes of tureen in this style and had no problem with one wick - usually a CD20 or CD22. I had good burns with no hang up on the side of the jar. This is my first time using a 8oz tureen. Like Cheryl stated, when I tried double wicking the jar became waaaaay too hot. I was using much smaller sizes of wick for the double wicking but they either were too much or not enough. Too small and I never got a full melt pool, too large and the glass was too tight. I'll look up info. for the zinc 51 and see what size that would be for the CD's. Thanks for taking the time to reply! From what I have located so far it looks like the 51 would be a CD10. So that gives me a starting point.
  16. Anyone use the 8oz Tureens for your soy candles? (See photo) http://www.shoppalstores.com/bgcandle2/index.cfm/fa/categories.main/parentcat/13747 The mounth of the jar is just slightly below 3 inches so I wouldn't think it would require a double wick. I use CD wicks but I am sure I can find a comparison chart for other wicks. Any suggestions on a starting point would be very much appreciated!
  17. I just wanted to say that I recently ordered from this company(will be testing the FO this week)and the customer service is outstanding even on small orders!
  18. I have a recipe for making potpourri and it states to use 7-9 drops of FO per tablespoon of Orris Root. Stir very well and close in a air tight container. Keep contents closed for 7 days but shake the container daily. After 7 days add the dry potpourri and shake to blend. Close the container and store for 4 weeks. Well there is just one small problem - it doesn't state how much of the Orris Root containing the FO I should use per ounces of potpourri? Can anyone tell me what is the suggested amount? Also, I tried drying some fruit slices in my oven(I don't have a dehydrator). The potpourri recipe states to spray fruit slices after drying with acrylic spray. The spray has a strong odor, won't that change the way the potpourri smells?
  19. Thanks everyone! I ordered the Gingersnap and will test it. I'll keep the others in mind for a future order.
  20. If anyone uses the 16oz Victorian Jar I would like to know what type and size wick you use. The mouth of the jar does not seem to require a double wick. I believe it is 3inches or less. Any suggestions?
  21. I've been searching for a Lemon Pound Cake or some type Lemon bakery FO that works well in soy. So far the ones I have tried are either too weak even at max. load or didn't have a bakery scent - you could just smell the Lemon. Can anyone suggest a good one that you like?
  22. No advise on your question here -I just wanted to say that when I saw your question I "Stupid Dumb Question From A Silly Old Man" I just knew you had to have a great sense of humor:grin2: Good luck with your project!
  23. Thanks for responding! I wonder if it was the selection of oil they were burning? They have been selling here for at least 5years. They seem to be pretty popular because I see ads for them locally all of the time. When they were first being offered I remember the display I saw had them for sale starting at around 70.00. That's why I didn't even bother to stop and take a closer look. A co-worker thought they were the best thing since slice bread. She paid the orginal 70.00 for one. She also told me that she could smell the scent days after it had last been lit. So maybe just like the FO's we use in our candles the quality makes a difference with the FO for these lamps as well. Love to hear from anyone that sells them?
  24. I am not even sure if that is the correct name for them. Several years ago when they first became popular I was told by someone that had one they couldn't be beat for scent(strong throw). I passed a display for them in a gift shop and they were very expensive so I didn't bother to look closer at them and see what they were all about. Is this simply a lamp design that you pour fragrance oil into and it burns by a wick like a kerosene lamp? Do you use specific oils for the lamp or they safe for use with the FO's we use for candlemaking? What do you guys think of them and if you sell them what is your price range? Here is a picture of the type of lamps I am refering to. http://www.islandlatitudes.com/redolere.htm
