  1. Thanks, I think the amount used is so small that it couldn't cause a problem unless you were already had a clog to begin with. I guess it is better to be safe than sorry just incase. How would you word the warning? Please remove herbs before draining...herbs may clog drain...???
  2. With products that contain things such as Lavender or Chamomile flowers(soap, bath teas...)do you guys put that these should be removed from the bath water before draining? I was asked if they might contribute to a clogged drain:rolleyes2 ! I wouldn't think the amount used would be a problem. But some people are so quick to file a complaint over the most trivial issue. What's your opinion?
  3. http://store.crabtree-evelyn.com/lav43171.html I've sprayed some FO on shelf liner paper but it leaves oil spots. Anyone make these and has some tips?
  4. I am noticing alot of people looking for unscent products because scent will clash with their perfume. However, there are many that find lotion dull without scent(I am one of them). What is your top selling lotion scent? Do you find customers prefer pump containers or jar?
  5. Anyone even use foaming bath butter?
  6. I saw a product that was in the shape of round bath bombs but it was advertised as a soft foaming bath butter? It had chamomile flowers rolled into the ball. I have seen foaming bath butters but they were all the consistency of whipped shea. Does anyone know how you would make a foaming bath butter but keep it firm? Is it simply a foaming bath butter that isn't whipped? I am having so much difficulty with my regular bath bombs that I don't want to start another project that will too time consuming.
  7. Thanks everyone! I can bake them? I never would have thought of that. Anyone know what temp. and for how long?
  8. :laugh2: ! Before you mentioned it the first thing that came to my mind was Lucy!!! What a mess, but it sure sounds funny! I bet your kitchen is very clean.
  9. I agree with Melly. I think some females are just more prone to the infection than others. They are probably more likely to read warning labels when using bath products so I think the corn starch would be ok. I did read some information concerning corn starch and talc. Seems that there is a link between talc and certain forms of cancer. So some people choose to use corn starch instead in powder products. If you notice that there is a concern with your customers regarding the corn starch you could offer some bombs without it.
  10. The following is the recipe that I have been following. Minus the Citric Acid 1 cup baking soda 1 cup epsom salts 1/4 cup cornstarch Mix those with a wisk. Might be good idea to sift it too. I didn't color mine, but I might color this part, or color the epsom salts. Drizzle and mix well with: 2.5 tablespoons turkey red oil (sulfonated castor oil) 2 tablespoons FO Add: 1/2 cup citric acid 1 cup sodium lauryl sulfoacetate Pack tightly into molds. Unmold carefully and let dry 24 hours. Can use a meatballer, a plastic ornament that comes apart, tea light containers, a metal 1/4 cup measuring cup.... I posted a question concerning my bath bombs expanding like dough and that I live in an area with high humidity. I was told that I could leave out the Citric Acid. I followed the recipe above and omitted the Citric Acid. I added more Baking Soda and used only 1 Tablespoon Turkey Red Oil and 1 Tablespoon of FO. I used the plastic ornaments as a mold. After 24 hours they were still soft and crumbly. I tried a second batch and doubled all of the recipe but leaving the Turkey Oil at 1 Tablespoon and leaving out the Citric Acid. They still will not get hard! I never would have thought bath bombs were so difficul. I am about ready to pull out my hair:p ! Any suggestions?
  11. Thanks! Yes, I have isolated the FO's that seem to need a larger wick and I will test those next week. Most only leave a slight amount of wax on the side but there are a few that have a bit more than I am comfortable with leaving that way. It does seem to be more of a concern with specific FO's. The container I am using is only 3 inches in diameter. I find that double wicking in my containers that are less than 4 inches makes them too hot. I will trim the wicks and see if that helps. Thanks again!
  12. Ok, I am new to B&B. What is Red Devil and what are you guys making with it?
  13. I am new to bath bombs! I purchased some round clear plastic christmas ornimates that you open and fill the inside. I thought these would be good for molding the bath bombs. I am working with a round mold. If I fill both sides of the mold with the bath bomb ingredience how do I get both sides to stick together?
  14. Thanks Robin! I was hoping to find some that were a little larger but those are the best price I have seen for trays so far!
  15. Thanks Geek! I am so happy to hear that I may be able to solve the problem without switching to another type of wick. The hang up is slight - on most candles. What's odd is that I have noticed different FO's give a different result as far as the hang up goes. I have one FO that leaves alot of wax on the side. It is in the same container as the others, same wax but whenever I use that certain FO I always have more wax on the sides then the other candles.
  16. I have been using CD wicks and they bend at the tip. I believe it is to help prevent mushrooming. The problem I am having is that the wax never totally melts on the side opposite the direction that the wick tip burns. Wicking up doesn't always help. Usually what happens is that the wax just burns faster but there is still some hang up on the side opposite the bend. Is having a small amount of wax left on the side ok or should I strive for a totally clean, no wax hang up on the sides? What do you guys do?
  17. I saw a cute display with several bath products on a wooden tray. Like the one pictured on the link below. http://www.uniquerustique.com/Images-pics-rustic-decor/Ornate-Tray-Set.htm I thought the scroll/latice work makes the tray look femine. However, the price for this tray is 30.00. I searched locally at the craft stores for unpainted trays but there weren't any for sale. I did a search on line and ebay and haven't located anything. Does anyone know of a mail order source for serving trays?
  18. Those are very pretty! I don't make soap but those make me want to give it a try.
  19. What do you use for coloring the bath bombs and at what phase do you add the dye? I know food coloring probably shouldn't be used since many people have skin reactions to it.
  20. I have JS Chestnut & Brown Sugar and it smells heavy on the butter to me. I am having to use a bit higher % with it than some of my other FO's but it sure does smell good. You guys are going to make me cry! After reading the above post I remembered how my mother use to make popcorn balls. I can picture her in the kitchen at this time of the year making popcorn balls, pralines and M&M cookies. I miss her each and every single day. Funny how scents can stir up memories.
  21. Well, I am still trying to find a recipe for bath bombs that can be made in high humidity areas(other post here)but I have seen photos posted of a foaming bath bomb - one that makes bubbles like a bubble bath. I did a search but didn't locate a recipe. Does anyone have one?
  22. I've seen a container like this at Big Lots and in a clearence bin at Michael's craft store. They were .99 cents.
  23. Thanks! Yes, it was taking alot longer than 3 hours and even then there wasn't a full melt pool. I'll try a larger wick.
  24. How much time should it take to achieve a full melt pool? I know you don't want it to happen too quickly. Is there a certain amount of time that if it hasn't reached a full melt pool across the top of the container a larger wick should be tested?
  25. Are you weighing your FO or strickly going by the 1oz? Some oils are heavier than others. I have always gone by percentage and tested usually starting with 5% - 7%. 7% is the max for the wax I use.
