  1. Yes, I've had the same problem with them. I thought their shipping cost had improved and they lowered the cost. I think I received something about it in an e-mail newsletter from them. Obviously it hasn't. Too bad, if the shipping weren't so high I would probably order from them more. Good Luck!!!
  2. Thanks for the information! I read on another site that there is now a warning with some candle warmers NOT for use with soy wax. No reason was given so that is why I posted the question here. I can't imagine that they would actually get so hot that it would be a fire hazard but I just wanted to make sure.
  3. Maybe I've been smelling too much FO but I know I posted this question a couple of days ago and I can't find it on this forum??? Are there tart or candle warmers that are especially for soy wax?
  4. So I could whip any type of soap and make it float?
  5. Thanks, yes they sank to the bottom without the soap. I'll just have to sell them as a hand soap. Before I became interested in making soap I saw a base for sale on a site that said it made soap that floats like Ivory. That was several years ago and I haven't seen it since.
  6. I read a warning label once that stated not to burn the candle with the lid on. I thought that was just the candlemaker's sense of humor. Now I bet that someone probably did put the lid back on. I've heard of people lighting candles and placing them in a bookshelf, under a counter top... Like you have to show proof of age when purchasing alcohol, maybe we should ask for proof of common sense before we sell a candle:p
  7. When I first saw the rose petal soap it was on a site that had a picture of rose petals floating in bath with candles burning all around. They must either be making it some other way or the picture was just used to attract customers and that's not what the product actually does(float). Are there certain types of M&P bases that produce a floating soap(like Ivory)? Maybe I could find a mold that has small leaf shapes.
  8. I made rose soap petals by using silk flowers and dipping in clear soap base. They were pretty in the container but I never considered the fact that they weren't going to float in the bath water. They just sank like rock and scented the water a little. Not exactly the romatic picture of floating rose petals I had in mind. Plus with them being on the bottom I almost forgot they were there and started draining the water before removing them. Not what I want a customer to do. Is there any other way to make these so that they will float? Is there something else other than silk petals that should be used?
  9. I am a newbie to soap! I would like to add lavender buds to some melt and pour soap bases I have. At what stage to I add the buds? How long should I cure the soap?
  10. When I first started making candles I remember reading on a message board that it was wise not to give specific instruction on how long to burn a candle. Reason was because if a problem occured the customer could always say "Well you told me I had to burn it for x amount of time." A tester told me that my wicks kept drowning. I couldn't figure out why, they were all from the same company and other candles made with those wicks were fine. Same wax used as always. Then I asked her when, where, and for how long she burned the candle. She told me that she burns candles for short periods of time such as when she is getting dress for work or maybe at dinner... So I am assuming the candle is never getting a full melt pool. Just when the meltpool starts to develop she is blowing it out which means the wax is only melting down the center. Do I give her specifics suggestions on how long to burn the candle? What concerns me is that if this is someone that normally only uses candles for a short period of time and I tell her she needs to burn it longer, she may forget to extinguish the candle all together. Such as burning at dinner and then not putting it out because I told her it needs to burn longer and then she goes to bed with a lit candle. I think an electric tart warmer might be a better solution here but in general do you guys tell customers how long to burn or not to burn your candles?
  11. Are there specific warmers just for soy products - such as electric tart warmers or candle warmers?
  12. I was told that someone actually burned a candle inside of their car! They thought it would be ok to burn the candle long enough to scent the car before driving. Sounds like something that would only happen on I Love Lucy! I would think common sense should be a factor but I would like to know just how much are we required to place on the warning labels to cover ourselves? I never would have thought to warn anyone "Do not burn in an automobile:rolleyes2 There is no way you can possibly think of ever single potential hazard and place that on a warning. Someone mentioned on another board that there was a complaint from a women that got hot wax on her skin when she blew out the candle. Well, gee burning wax is hot. Should that also be on the label? Are there specific laws that tell us exactly how much info. we should have on our warning labels?
  13. Thanks everyone. I think the 7.00 is more around the price range that I am going for to be able to cover the cost of the supplies including the labels, shipping and my time. I hope you guys sell more! I have had several orders for them in the larger sizes. I am just waiting on another shipment of supplies.
  14. What do you package the bath fizzies/bombs of this size in? I put them in a small cello bag but that looks really boring IMO. Any other ideas?
  15. There was very little interest in the smaller size(2oz). Customers asked for a larger bottle. I have the 4oz aluminum all ready to sell - how much do you guys sell your sprays?
  16. I have been asked if the wicks I use are metal or cotton. I only make soy candles so I have never used zinic anyway. I do find that most of the people that have asked have been those that either have health concerns or just more natural type people(for lack of a better discription). These are the people that usually only burn beeswax candles, prefer unscented or no dye added B&B products, like essential oils rather than fragrance oils...
  17. Good job! I never would have thought those were your first. Looks like a pro to me!!!
  18. Sorry ,that's what I mentioned above - I don't have the link. I was using someone else's computer when I discovered them so I didn't save the link. They were in the shape of a typical bath bomb but they were discribed as being cream/ foaming soap. If I locate them again I will post the photo.
  19. I am sorry I didn't save the site link with the photo of the balls and now I can't find it. I believe Kangroo Blue and The Chemistry Store sells the foaming butter. Thanks for looking.
  20. Hi! I am also new to B&B. Welcome aboard!
  21. I haven't located a recipe and I have never used foaming bath butter so I sure hope some more people chime in on this post. I know that the butter needs to be whipped so maybe to make it into a ball it simply isn't whipped as much and left firm then rolled into herb flowers????
  22. Thanks again! If I ever get a new digital camera I'll post some pics.
