  1. I have seen one before!I bought a little glass pumpkin jar thing at a yard sale once and it had this little tea light in it,much smaller than a regular tea light.I lit it when I got home and literally got an hour of burn time out of it!It seemed pretty useless imo.Besides the fact that it's the only size candle that could possibly fit in this holder.
  2. At my house it's usually called the kitchen! :laugh2:Someday,i'd love to move to the basement to the furnace room that stays a lovely 72*. Then I would probably call it the mad scientist lab!Lol!Just thinking about shelving and cabinets, temperature control and my mp3 player jammin.....sounds like a little slice of heaven!(Deep sigh)
  3. I personally would fill up to the point where the glass starts to taper in on this particular jar. Some might fill less than that.I'm sure someone else will chime in too!=-)
  4. Haha!Definitly effin!But elfin is funny too!!!
  5. I bet they put little bits of magic in them!:laugh2:Effin Partylites...i'm just glad I don't see too much of them around my neck of the woods! They were here for a while then kinda disappeared.Maybe they made a deal with the devil in exchange for the perfect formula?!Lol! I'm sorry,i'm not poking fun at your question,I think I just woke up silly this morning and that was the first thing I thought of when I read this thread!
  6. Thanks for the responses everyone!I think what I will do is get a couple lbs of other soys and see what I think! If I don't like them,I can always go back.If I decide to switch all together, then at least i'll have 50 lbs of tea-lights at my disposal! Seriously though,I don't mind working out the kinks of the appearances of other waxes. At least I might actually get somewhere with that,as opposed to me beating my head against the wall getting absolutely nowhere to improve the ht of my advanced! It's like i'm caught in a bad romance with this wax!Sometimes it's super sweet and tells me i'm pretty but mostly it just bitches and doesn't do the dishes!!:laugh2:Thanks again folks!
  7. So here's the dilemma.I've been using advanced for a year or so.It's the only soy I've tried. The first 5 or so f.o's I tested yielded awesome results!(All Peaks oils)I have gotten some really good throw with it and it makes such lovely looking candles.Though as everyone has said since the beginning of my testing, some f.o's just don't work in it.I have tested tons and tons of diff scents from diff companies and it's really hit and miss.(Maybe I had beginners luck with the first f.o's)I'm starting to feel like I need more consistent results because i'm spending a small fortune on oils that are total duds, even after over a month of curing time! So,I started blending a paraffin into it to hopefully help the throw. At first 25%,then 30%,then 45%,still not getting what I was wanting. Then I started getting pissed.I didn't want to use paraffin at all but I was getting desperate!I'm starting to feel like i'm bending over and advanced is letting me have it!!I'm quite torn because i'm feeling like throwing in the advanced towel and starting testing all over again with a new wax, which makes my stomach hurt after all the wick testing I had to do in the advanced to get it right)I guess my question is have any of you spent a great deal of time and money on a specific wax to just turn your back on it and move on?My husband thinks i'm a nut for sticking with it this long...but what can I say..i'm noble AND stubborn! What would you all do?
  8. I have used a dye chip called french vanilla in creme brulee. It makes it a cream color.I got those particular dye chips from ebay through fancy cat candles I think.
  9. Is that a archipelago candle? I agree that black sure does look classy!I'd like to get my hands on some myself!Lol!
  10. 1 oz f.o per lb of wax is usually the standard. If it's easier for you to use a 1 oz sample bottle of f.o per batch, than weigh out the oil to suit a 12 oz container, just start heating enough wax for 16 oz(1 lb) instead. You will have 4 extra ounces but it will save you the headache of weighing the oil correctly.Maybe find a container to fit your leftover and test in that too.Good luck =-)
  11. I love these jars too!I was so excited to see them at the Dollar Tree and picked up a few to try myself.(I love how thick they are) I did get a good complete top to bottom burn with a peony fragrance in this jar but can't remember right now what type and size wick I used.(I'll have to get my notes out sometime to check) I remember the ht was awesome tho!I remember having quite a bit of hangup until the second 1/2 of the jar but a good power burn cleaned it right up! I have also put a wood wick in this jar with success as well.I was using straight advanced at the time.Anywho, good luck with your testing,I think your burn looks pretty good so far =-)
  12. From my personal experience they are not "milder".I have bought f.o's from Daystar, which is a soap company I think and i've bought f.o's from Bitter Creek for instance, and it all depends on the particular scent and not the whether it's from a "soap" supplier or a "candle" supplier. The only difference i'm aware of is that some f.o's are not skin safe so some oils that you use in candles cannot be used in soaps and other body products.I could be wrong but that's been my experience.I've only made candles so maybe someone else has more knowledge on the subject and will chime in!
  13. I have been testing wood wicks for awhile myself but i've only used the ones from Lonestar, because they were the only company that offered a sample pack when I was looking. They come in SM,MED,LG,and XL.They have burned beautifully for me so far in an 8 oz status jars and an 8 oz apothecary jar.If you want to keep experimenting with ww's I suggest trying a different brand. The MED and LG have worked the best for me so far.I get a fmp after about 2 hrs but the jar never gets too hot to touch,(even after burning for 6 hours straight.)The hot throw is usually there,(depending on the f.o)and the crackling is decent depending on how much f.o and dye I use.(It seems like the more dye I use,the louder the crackle is.)Honestly i've had better luck with these wood wicks than any other kind of wicks i've tried!I find it disheartening though that the ones from BC are not working for you because I order some of my wax from there and would love to get more wood wicks from somewhere I regularly order from already.=( O well,I guess you can't have it all right!?Anyways, good luck with your testing.Maybe I will get some from BC anyways and see if I end up with the same troubles! @Jonsie,here's a link to a pretty extensive ww testing that I found a bit back.Idk if it's the same one peejeeratties is talking about but i found it to be informative. http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?45154-Le-Wicket%99-Wood-Wick-Tests-and-Pics&highlight=wood%20wick
  14. I got a sample of it with my last order as well.I think it smells amazing oob!I havn't had a chance to put it in anything but i'm definitely looking forward to it.Btw,does anyone know if it's an original scent or a dupe of something?Either way,I think it's absolutely devine!
  15. It is VERY strong in soy and smells like old lady, imo!Lol!It's probably better if you use less than recommended. I kinda like it because it reminds me of one of my grandma's! When I read the description I just had to try it too!I definitely smell the rose and musk in it.I colored mine grey and they looked beautiful but boy o boy were they strong!I could not burn the tarts I made in a tea light burner because it was overpowering and gave me a headache within 10 minutes of burning!
  16. Btw,you've already made a big step in the right direction by finding this site!!There is a TON of priceless info here!Familiarize yourself with the forum search(it will be one of your best friends!)Also,my 5 fav suppliers are:Nature's Garden,Peak's,Bitter Creek North,Candlescience, and Alabaster.(Note:Alabaster has something going on right now and they have been out of products for quite a while so..i'm not sure of the stability of this company)But when they are in stock, they have some awesome oils that I love and cannot find anywhere else.Everyone is different and there are many other good suppliers out there, these are just my personal favorite that I have tried so far!Hope this extra info helps!!Good luck!!
  17. I'm still kind of a newb myself but here are my top 5. 1.Don't buy an entire case of wax until you know it's the one you are sure you want to use. 2.Try and refrain from buying 100 different f.o's until you have decided on a wax and a wick type/size(you'll run out of room real fast, lol) 3.Research the companies you are gonna buy from before making a purchase(i've bought some pretty shoddy f.o's b4) 4.Every candle maker is different.Take every suggestion you get with a grain of salt and don't just expect that what works for one person will work for you. 5.Most importantly,KEEP GOOD NOTES! This one really IS the best advice I can give ya! Also....HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I say:stick with what you like!Honestly, most people don't give a rat's behind what the candles they burn are made of,as long as they have an awesome hot throw.I'm not selling yet,but I use a blend of soy and paraffin to get the best of both worlds!Good luck in your decision.
  19. I can make a candle burn great and smell great, but they all look like sh*t to me!!!Not the tops, they are beautiful, just the sides. It's so frustrating!!!!!I just needed to vent about this, I apologize. My husband is all "who cares" and "nobody notices that but you" but i can't stand it!Lol!Does this drive others absolutely bonkers as well???I've tried warming the jars, cleaning them, covering them while cooling, cooling them in the oven, pouring at different temps and trying different temps in the room they will set up in and nothing helps!! This is me ---------->
  20. I have been testing with wood wicks and overall I like them.I did find that most of the wood wicked candles that are store bought are overwicked and always in an interlude jar which makes it even worse. The jar gets super hot after the halfway point and the flame is outrageous!.I've been using status jars with them and have found that the medium size wick seems to work the best. The large and ex lg sizes are way too big!Jmo,but i like them. Some of the ones i've made don't crackle hardly at all but others are quite loud.I think it depends on the f.o and dye. They are my favorite kind of candle to burn when i'm reading or it is otherwise really quiet in my house.I love the sound of the crackle...it creates a nice ambiance I think
  21. If you use the advanced search you'll find a ton of NG reviews, most of which are positive!!Love NG!!
