  1. Peaks oils are worth the extra shipping cost imo. They have some of the best i've smelled and whether or not I personally like the scent, every one i've tried has been good and strong in soy.I will always order oils from them even if the shipping is through the roof because to me it's worth it. I have a few candles I made last year that i havn't burned yet and they are so strong! With most of my peak oil candles I can just leave one sitting on my counter in summer and every time I walk by I can smell it,and that's without lighting it!To me,the shipping cost is totally worth it! :-)
  2. I also jumped on the C3 ship! Unfortunately I have a full unopened 50# box of advanced just sitting in my basement :-(
  3. Check out our post office hours! 8 am to noon, then closed til 2 pm then open til 4 mon through fri. 8 to noon on sat. They often open late and close early as well.Clerks are friendly and helpful but it's hard as heck to know for sure when the heck they're actually open!!Also,i've wondered why the hell they need a 2 hour lunch break???!!!The main lady that works there lives right across the street!LOL!
  4. Thanks Ravens,I have squeezed the tabs a bit to make it more snug but the wick seems to lean crooked as heck.I've tried using a clothespin to hold it up but it doesn't work the best.I haven't tried the other wood wicks you mentioned but I might now!!Lol!
  5. Is it only these 2 fragrances you have this problem with or many? I only ask because I used to use ecosoya advanced but switched to a different soy because I was unsatisfied with the range of oils that I could actually get a throw with.
  6. Thanks for the info guys! It's great to get different opinions before placing orders!I honestly havn't ordered an oil from Peak that didn't knock my socks, off but sometimes descriptions can be a bit misleading when buying oils in general. I do find it crazy that cinnamon buns hasn't been a good mover for those who sell.I swear, bakery scents fly off the shelves at my local Walmart!Lol!Thanks again!!
  7. I am about to make a Peak's order and was going to try a few new oils.I was wondering if anyone has tried these oils and what they think of them.TIA!! Ocean Breakfast at Tiffany's Tahitian Village Island Nectar Cinnamon Buns French Vanilla & Amber Btw,i'm going to test them in C3 :-)
  8. I LOVE their coconut hibiscus!I've gotten a decent throw with it,not knock your socks off throw, but a nice light scent.I don't know of anywhere else that sells it though. What % are you using? Also, what size container are you using?I found that I have to pour this one in a decent diameter jar and burn it in a room that's medium sized. As for the sandalwood,I havn't tried Lonestar's, but there's tons of other companies that sell it.Try www.fragranceoilfinder.com HTH.
  9. I was just wondering what any wood wick users wick clip preference is.I prefer the wood wicks from Lonestar but I HATE the clips that come with them. They don't hold the wick in for sh*t!The wick clips from Bitter Creek look like they'd do a much better job at holding the wick.I was just wondering what everyone's preference is and if the one's from BC work better before I go buying some!
  10. I looked for the dimensions of that plastic cover and couldn't find them so I looked at the flared jars they are supposed to fit and they are 3 1/4 in.(Not sure if that's inside or outside)The outside diameter of the cube is between 3 1/4 and 3 1/2. If and when the time comes that I must have some kind of topper for these,I was thinking just a cardboard square fastened on with a couple glue dots would probably work if I can't find a lid. I am not selling candles yet,but I would like to some day,and there's no point in testing in a jar if ya can't find the proper accessories right?!
  11. I've been sifting through old threads about these jars and back a couple of years ago there were no lids for them,so maybe there still isn't.I did come across one post that said she used adhesive squares that stick to the top edge of the container that were clear. She said she got them at Taylored Concepts, which is now closed.I suppose it's a new lead for me at least!Off to a google search!!
  12. Does anyone know where to get a lid for these? The inside diameter of them is 3 in.I havn't been able to find one anywhere. They're the only jar I feel confident in putting a wood wick in since they are insanely thick and heavy!TIA!!
  13. I don't sell my candles yet but imo Etsy is saturated with candles, tarts, and bath and body products,so I would think that would be a disadvantage.I think I would prefer my own website because you can send people directly there. The downside of that I think would be for folks who are just in the market for your type of products and if they google it, what are the chances of them sifting through everything that comes up to find your website. But,with your own website,it is of your design and you can feature everything you are selling and it seems more professional to me than an Etsy page.I think a lot of people probably even have both. The more places your products are,out there, the better right?!Just my opinion!
  14. I've always been a wick trimmer, even before I made candles and bought the craptastic store bought ones.I had always thought everyone trimmed their wicks as well. Boy was I dead wrong.I went to my sisters one day and as soon as I walked in the door I was smacked in the face with a wonderful bakery scent.I go to the kitchen table where there is a 21 oz mainstay jar candle burning. It was at less than the halfway point and had the hugest flame, like reaching to the top of the jar,the biggest mushroom imaginable, soot all over the inside of the jar, flickering like heck, and hot as you know where!I was like holy smokes sister! How long has this candle been burning? She says like since 10 am and it like 4 pm then! Now,I regularly burn candles for hours, but honestly,I blow them out around 4 or 5 hours, trim the wick, and relight them and let them go for another 4 or 5 hours with no problem.I never did that with store bought candles but i've done it plenty since making my own.I was surprised that glass jar hadn't broke. It was so hot you couldn't touch it.I blew it out immediately and lectured my sis about candle burning safety. She also said she just got that candle the day before and burned it for 6 hours that day and didn't trim the wick before relighting it the next day. So,that's like 12 hours of burning with no wick trimming. The only positive thing I took from this disaster was that after 12 hours of burning the 21 oz candle,it was almost gone.No wonder they sell this size jar for $5. You could burn them up in 2 days time if you're a power burner who NEVER trims your wick!My candles last much much longer than these POS candles. Some of them are super strong but they are gone so fast I don't see how it's worth it to buy them. They are obviously overwicked and sometimes the wick is even terribly off centered.I wonder if there have been any glass explosions or fires started by these bad boys?
  15. You nailed it Candybee,it did have a dimple around the wick.I'll be sure not to make this mistake again!!Good thing I got in there when I did and put that baby out!!I scooped out the wax on the edges, moved it to the room I was in and relit it.Worked fine after that.It had a lovely ht.Black Rasp Vanilla may be one of my new loves!!
  16. I had a feeling that was a wood wick.Poor wood wicks. They are so pretty and get such a bad rap..I make them for myself all the time and get the best ht with them.I've never had this crazy flamage happen myself but I could see how it's possible.I get my wood wicks from Bitter Creek and Lonestar and always wick for the second half of the jar because it gets pretty hot towards the end, especially if you power burn(which I always do.)I'd definitely stop selling these and do some retesting if I were you.Good luck!!
  17. Ah...thanks.I thought that may be the case. I sure hope this doesn't happen again!Lol!
  18. I poured this candle a week ago today.I figured i'd light it and see how she burns.(Once lit I saw that it was sweating a bit.)I put it in my bathroom and shut the door.I went in there 5 minutes later to get something and this is what it looked like, only it was still lit!I have never seen a candle tunnel in this weird way and so quickly before!!It's 15% 4786 AND 85% C3,black raspberry vanilla f.o,1/2 red and 1/2 purple dye chip, and an htp 105 wick.I made a candle a few weeks ago with the exact same blend and wick, just no f.o or dye and it burned beautifully.Any idea why this happened?
  19. Hello All! I am thinking about making the switch from dye chips to liquid dyes and am looking for some suggestions.I order a lot of supplies from Bitter Creek and was wondering about their dyes particularly.I have heard that some liquid dyes have an odor to them that you can sometimes smell after you pour a candle, and I obviously don't want that.I have heard of the evo dyes and heard that they don't have an odor.In your opinion, which dye seems to be the best and if you have used bitter creek's brand,do you like them? TIA.:smiley2:
  20. Hello All! I make my tarts in mini muffin pans but cannot decide how to package them.Do any of you make them this way and if so how do you package yours? TIA!!
  21. No,it was repackaged in a little box, that says marinara sauce on it and put into a grocery bag, lol.I expect they just put 5 lbs from a 50 lb box into a smaller box.No batch numbers or anything.I wish companies wouldn't do this sort of thing, but hey,it was a free sample so...ya get what you pay for I suppose! It smells fine and I'm glad to hear the appearance shouldn't have an effect on it once melted. As for the CBA,I was joking about it getting a better HT after 6 months.I'm really just keeping them around for an in case the power goes out situation, since that's about all they are good for it seems! Thanks again Stella.I will post pics when I get a jar made.I didn't get to pouring last night, but hopefully tonight I will get some time to play with it!
  22. Thanks for the advise Stella! If I know anything about soy,it's that it has to cure!Remember..I was using advanced before!"Cure" has become my middle name!Lmao!I have a few jars I made with advanced 6 months ago,and i'm still waiting for them to cure! Btw,when I opened the box of c3 it seemed a little dry compared to the advanced I was using. It was in a plastic grocery bag inside the box.Is this normal? Some bits seemed translucent almost and it feels a bit chalky.I don't know if this is normal or not but I figured if it was kinda old that it hopefully won't effect the throw, just maybe the appearance?Idk,I am no soy expert, lol!(I wish!)I remember last year someone gave me an opened box of cb135 that had a date sometime in 2007 on it and it had the same appearance that this seems to.Any thoughts?
  23. I'm testing some c3 tonight, wish me luck!Lol!I ordered the 5#sample box from fillmore and ordered a few of their oils to sample since i've never ordered from them before.I got gingerbread, cedarwood, and black raspberry vanilla. They all smell great oob.Has anyone had luck with any of these in c3?I will of course test my first candles with just wax and wick to figure out the wicking,so don't worry,i'm not getting ahead of myself! It would be nice to try one that has at least yielded results for someone ;-)
  24. My first dabble in candles was when I was looking for a way to make some extra money. I started looking into selling candles for other companies. In searching for companies to sell for, I came across many candle supply companies.I got to thinking how much more rewarding making my own products would be as opposed to selling for someone else.So..I bought some supplies and gave it a go.I soon realized candle making was not quite as easy as I had thought it would be but I was instantly hooked on doing it!I am not selling yet but hope to some day, when I can make a quality product.I am truely addicted to candle and tart making and even if I never make a dollar doing it I have definitley found a hobby that I love!
  25. I have a gas stove and have been using the double boiler method. If that's wrong to do...this is the first time i've heard it.
