  1. Well, this sounds like it would be great for her skin. How much would that recipe make?? I have not tried it. If you have the materials and would be willing to make me a batch that would be great. Beeswax would be just fine...sounds like it would be better for the skin than soy anyway. I will PM you for details.
  2. Here are the instructions that go with the recipe: "Melt butters and wax together until liquid. Heat oils to approximately 110*. Add oils and butter/wax mixture together between 100-110*. Mix together thoroughly. Add Vitamin E and mix again. I use a mixer to whip it as it cools, as if it were whipped shea, but keep in mind that it's intended to be balm consistency, so it won't whip high. If you prefer b/w, add sub it for the soy by 1/2 amount: 15 g for this amount."
  3. Hi, I do candles not B&B...I was searching the threads and found this recipe for - Eczema Balm 30 g unrefined shea butter 10 g avocado butter 15 g wheat germ oil 15 g emu oil 10 g borage oil 10 g evening primrose oil 30 g soy wax flakes 3 g Vitamin E I don't want to buy a bunch of these ingredients just to make a batch for my daughter who has Eczema...but if there is someone out there who already has the materials and wanted to make it for me I would br greatful. Also if you could let me know what the price would be. Thanks.
  4. I am noticing that Lonstar is a lot cheaper for 1 lb bottle of FO than a lot of other places. How is there quality? Thanks.
  5. So sorry for you. I would love to see a picture of her tribute purfume bottle if/when you finish it. I hope making it was therapeutic for you. I lost my brother when I was 17...he was 18 at the time. I am now 25 and it's still hard, but I guess it gets a little easier to deal with as time goes by. It for sure changes the lives of everyone involved. I am now an "only child" and my parents have a hard time with it still...my thoughts are with you.
  6. Oooh, very colorful. How long do you wait till you cut them?
  7. Hmm, if you are gearing toward masculine...I would say not purple...my vote would be to the black red and grey I guess.
  8. Yeah, I think the hardware store might be my best bet. Regular trimmers wont work due to the width of the wick. It's about 3/4 of an inch wide and thin.
  9. I poured my first wood wick candle. Used the wood wick from lonestar. Now I need to trim the wick down, but don't quite know how to do it. Does anyone know of any wood wick trimmers?? My container wax is soft and if I use scissors I think I will end up messing up my top.
  10. I think I put it above. But it's 50% acu para 30 ( which is 30% soy, 70% parafin) and 50% 4625 (pillar parafin blend). The acu para 30 is a soft container one pour so I needed to add something to harden it...hence the 4625. They turned out really soft and creamy feeling, but not too soft. I will test them early next week...I might adjust a little with the percentages.
  11. Nik, You going to burn this one too? Are you still burining the last bowl you made?
  12. Yeah I love those too, but don't want to add that cost right now. For the embed molds I mean, but I love the layered look.
  13. Thanks Stella, I really value your wealth of knowledge.
  14. I guess I should tell you more about them. It's 50 % acu para 30 blend wax and 50 % 4625 pillar blend wax. 6% FO.
  15. Here are my first tarts that I am going to test. They are the same scent I have been working with my other tests. Jamacia Me Crazy. Decided to do hot pink and orange because I love the layered look, but the pink turned out a lot more pastel then I thought. I still like them!
  16. Wow, sounds like you really didn't get what you paid for. I haven't used this type of wax. You only bought 10 lbs right?
  17. My DD is 16 months old and has eczema. We are already using like a eucerin type cream after her bath and using hypo allergenic non soap dove body wash. We can't find shampoo that is hypo allergenic or soap free. Just wondering if anyone makes products for this...natural stuff. I would love a lotion that would be great for her skin without feeling all greasy like vasaline on my hands afterward. Does anyone make a hypo allergenic shampoo? Thanks in advance.
  18. Only warm to touch. Easy to handle so far. Right now I am just trying to find a wick that will burn well in this wax, then I will probably be able to test for HT more closely. I wasn't sure how to go about it originally, so I might be a little out of order. Should I be burning for 3 or 4 hours at a time? I have been doing 3 at a time. The jar is 3.75 inches in diameter. Thanks.
  19. I'd say you would be fine getting a 10 lb slab of wax and then if you want 6% fragrance oil that would be 1 oz per pound of wax. You weight the oils, so sometimes the volume could change. So 150 1 oz tarts would be about 9.4 lbs of wax and 9-10 oz of fragrance oil. 1 lb of wax makes about 16 tarts. Hope that helps. Oh, and then dye if you wanted that, but you use very little dye usually, so you wouldn't need much of that.
  20. I don't have a candle making business, but I read your post and feel for you. I have a 16 month old and I know it's hard to get anything done. Lol. Maybe just take a break and just do it for yourself for a while. Maybe someday your inspiration or passion will come back. I wouldn't get rid of your supplies if you can help it because I would hate to see you get rid of everything and then have to buy it all again if you decide you want to do it again. Darn economy seems like it is hitting a lot of the small business owners. Hope whatever decision you make you are at peace with it.
