  1. Stella, None of the wicks are drowning, so I guess I will keep burning. They are less than halfway gone. The HT seems good. I have them burning in the largest part of my house and I can smell them, but I think I am getting used to the scent, plus I have 4 burning at the same time.
  2. I have heard of the little black box one... I am sure there are many. Maybe asking for a reference from these companies? See if you could get in contact with someone who used them before you get too invested. I hear that the little black box sells out each month and I know others have tried it. You could search for little black box and find some info about it. She's also on etsy.com.
  3. Ok, so I have now done four 3 hour burns of my candles. None of them have a full MP, all have quite a bit of hang up on the sides of the jar. The HTP and CD wicks have some soot on the glass now. I am wondering if I need to double wick the 10 oz apothecary jar. It's about 3.75 inches in diameter. I have read a lot about people having to double wick this type of jar, I would not prefer to do that, but if I have to I will try it. Where would you recommend I start?? Since I am already done with 4 burns should I keep going till the candle is all gone or melt down and start over with some wick adjustments?? Thanks for your help in advance. The details of the candles are above.
  4. It is the blackest poster board I could get, but yeah when photographed it is looking quite brown.
  5. Here is my unedited attempt at the photo with a black background. So this is supposed to be earier to edit??? I hear?
  6. Congrats...that's a nice stepping stone for you. Hey, mistakes are how you learn. =)
  7. http://www.peakcandle.com/products/SMALL-Flip-Top-Caps-(Qty-6)__A1021.aspx Peak has these in small and large. Or the pipets will work too. I am having the same issue...haven't ordered these yet but will with my next order. They are very cheap.
  8. Yeah, I am pretty sure that when you say your candles are 6% FO, that you are saying that the FO equals 6% of the TOTAL weight of the candle. So you would use the more accurate calculation otherwise it doesn't take into account the total weight of the wax. Correct me if i am wrong.
  9. Sigh...on my 3rd burn right now. I am getting sooting in 2 of the candles and none of them are all the way out to the edge yet. I will wait to see if they catch up. I trimmed the wicks nice and short before the burn 1/4 inch.
  10. Well it's mostly parafin, not soy. I forgot to weight them before the first burn, so I weighed it today and will calculate the roc after the next burn and so forth.
  11. Hey thanks for the examples. I don't want to spend a lot on an editing program. I think my program will work, I just have to figure it out. I am dense when it comes to hues and saturations and such. Lol.
  12. Yeah when I was editing that pic I was thinking how it would be easier with a black background...I will try that. Thanks.
  13. Ok, after trying some editing. I am no good at this \ I was able to get a lot of that pink color out, what do you think> compared to the previous one.
  14. Ok, so I burned all 4 candles together from 3:15 till 6:30. None of the wicks drown out. None had a full melt pool, but I know you can't expect that always on the first burn. All jars were just warm to touch, none got too hot. #1 was HTP 105 and had the second largest flame. Did ok. #2 was 60-14-18 zinc and had second smallest flame. #3 was LX 24 and had the smallest flame, smallest MP, but strongest HT, hmmm imagine that. #4 was CD 18 and had the largest flame and MP, did some dancing, had very mild sooting at times (noticed at 4 pm)- maybe need a smaller size of this one next time? The pictures are of all 4 when blown out. And in order 1-4 as listed above.
  15. I got pain.net, it's a free type program that does a lot of the same things as photoshop.
  16. Yeah, I have no idea where to start with photo editing. Is there any sort of tutorial online or something?
  17. Lol, yeah I realized that was on after. Since this is practice I am not too worried. But will turn it off for the next one.
  18. Acu Para 30, para soy blend from swans. 6% FO, 7 drops pp of orange dye. 10 oz apoth jar
  19. Here I am finally getting to test my first containers. They are the 4 Jamaica Me Crazy candles with 4 different wicks. We have: -htp 105 -lx 24 -zinc 60-14-18 -cd 18 I don't know which is which because I want a blind "study". Well I peeked and know that the last on on the right is the CD 18, and the largest flame so far. I will burn for 3 hours at least...maybe 4 hours. The jars are close to 4 inches in diameter.
  20. Ok, I made a light box and here is my first attempt at candle photography. I don't think I have the lighting quite right, but if anyone has any thoughts I would like to hear them.
  21. Sandra, Is this a mason jar? I was wondering if they make mason jars that are smooth (i.e. don't say "mason" on them)
  22. Yeah I have read this method before. I am testing the same wax and haven't yet tested it at all. This is my first test. With 4 different wicks. So maybe I will light one up first just to see how this wax throws, then light up the others to compare which wick throws better.
  23. Yeah, it's a little more complicated, but is more exact for those who care.
