  1. I'm not sure how much he's using, I know he likes his candles STRONG. I'm pretty sure he's heating the wax to 180 or so I dont know what temp he's pouring at.
  2. I have a question from my nephew who is getting into candle making:yay: . First the particulars: He's 14 years old and enjoys this as a hobby. My wife and I gave him a couple of molds and some wax, wick, etc. 5lbs of the wax had snowflake oil in it. 5 lbs did not have snowflake oil. the wax is from Lonestar candle. it is IGI 4625. Now for the questions*shudder* . All his candles have shown the snowflake effect in them, even the ones without the oil. He has cleaned his molds and tools completely, and He's still getting it. We feel he's using too much FO, but can't be sure. The blocks of wax we gave him are roughly 1lbs each. He's useing both liquid scent and scent blocks from Yaley.com. Any other suggestions of what may be causing this snowflake effect? thanks in advance
  3. Same here. We always use the bottom of the mold as the top of the candle. Warning lables cover the pour and repour points.
  4. I'd have to say no. container and Color were the two main selling factors. Everyone loved the variety and some of the colors my wife came up with people just loved.
  5. Everything went well. We sold about 1/3 of the candles shown there. Plus orders for special candles. It was well worth it. Good time had by all. Only 1 pillar took a dive and got banged up. So it is now a door prize candle.
  6. Just thought I'd post some pics of the layout we had for my wifes first candle party. It was Family and close friends (about 15 people.) We all had a good time. Just had a problem of people sticking their noses in our buisness!!!! LOL:laugh2: sorry couldn't resists
  7. My wifes got something to help her move her cases of wax and jars etc around.....ME:yay: !! She never worries about her back:laugh2:
  8. I know how you feel, I cant seem to find a lable that my wife and I really like. Ya arent alone.
  9. When we have need for a wick tab that has a short neck, I will manufacture my own design of tab specific to the application we need it for. I have also designed and made my own design of wick bar that is self centering and wont move around. Works pretty well too. And it's applicable for any shape jar. At least my wife likes it. I've had to make about a dozen of them.
  10. We get our color blocks from both http://www.yaley.com/Candle_Making_Supplies_s/109.htm and http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/
  11. try this place... http://www.jarstore.com/ they have a few frosted items. click on Jar sizes, then about midway down you can choose clear or frosted.
  12. I like your lable, where do you get them? If you dont mind me asking.
  13. the smaller of the 2 is a frosted jar. Both are Rose Scent. The Bail jar is what we call Rozy Morning. It's 3 colors of rose (since you can buy roses in different colors). I agree that on the Bail jar the label should be more of a square, but for right now we have to work with what we have (it's all my program will print:( ) but we are looking at a new program and other lables. We both like the look of the lable on the frosted jar. when we can get it on straight:embarasse . The scent of the candles is on a handwriten lable my wife puts on the bottom along side the Warning lables. She seems to like the personal touch of it. I'm working on a stylish lable to maybe put on the lid that has the scent. I'm not sure on this just yet. I really thank you for your input. It gets me to thinking...hhmm may not be such a good idea:laugh2:.... We are really enjoying the time we are spending together doing this.
  14. OWWWW I got a tooth ache!! But worth it. Berry nice
  15. I for one like it. kind of homie feeling, warm
  16. Me personally being a handyman and wood-worker, I'd probably make up some brackets to sturdy it up. I cant see real clearly how your shelves are constructed, but it doesnt look to be to hard.
  17. Feelings not hurt at all. We are actually learning alot from you folks. Here's pics of the lable we are using now. These are a bit shorter in length and a bit wider. They also dont have all the info that the orriginal did
  18. Ladies; we are guys:laugh2: , it's easy to turn us on. At least for my wife it's easy to turn me on. But we love when you try new things.
  19. I was discussing with a Fellow candle maker some wick questions. One that we both thought would make a neat thread was about Predipped wick vs bare wick. So who here uses wick that is completely covered in wax and why, and who here leaves the wax sticking out of the candle bare and why. We are both interested to read your responses. My wife and I usually dip the wick in wax before putting it in the jar or mold. We feel it keeps the wick from burning to fast on the initial lighting. The Woman that I was speaking with does both depending on the candle size and wax she's using.
  20. Lables at the bottom was my wifes idea, but has been changed. they are in the middle now. They do look better in the middle. The original lables were the same size as return address lables. the new ones are a bit bigger. I wish I could get them on clear or a colored background. We have looked at a couple of sites that make lables for candles and they dont have anything that we like. If anyone has any suggestions on sites that sell lables or customize lables I'd certainly look. and thanks
  21. we've changed lables. Our first we had to much info on it had Name, email, phone. We've stoped using them an have a lable that just has our Name on it now. We havent found a "professional" lable that we really like, so these are ones I designed. I take full resposiblity for putting to much info on the first. The attached pic is of our new lable.
  22. I know you're not trying to make me mad, and I apprictiate the honesty. While we do burn each new container, new wax, new wick, we didnt do each scent color combination. This is part of the learning process. And for the info THANK YOU. The only comment/s I took offence to were the ones that you could feel were dripping with disdain, ("how dare you even think about making candles" is how we felt they were made).
