  1. Thanks for posting this. I've seen these before at craft fairs, etc. They are pretty cute and look very easy to make. I had forgotten all about them.
  2. Yup, I'd charge, too. You can waste a lot of product and time coming up with a candle for someone. Especially if they want "custom" because you have to TEST whatever you're going to sell them. Testing a whole new scent for a customer/client is going to be just as labor-intensive (and costly) as if you were product-testing for yourself.
  3. Keep in mind, a company can name their scents whatever they want. So a similar-sounding name can still render very different scents. Ex. - I could buy a FO called "country cupboard" but when I get it home it smells like laundry softener, so I package it as "fresh laundry" or something like that. Names can be deceptive. Too bad we can't get a couple other people to put their noses on it. I've been to stores/craft shows before where I smell candles and KNOW what scent/supplier they've gotten it from just from the scent.
  4. It isn't a regular I carried, but that's the one I used. It is STRONG. My goodness. Talk about a bargain, 1oz. to scent 50lb. of wax. OK I'm exaggerating, but still. It is a strong one. I don't know if other places renditions smell differently, but the one from BCN was definitely a smoke-scented FO.
  5. Even if a thread is old, if the supplier is still in business, it is relevant.
  6. Haha. Poor thing. Unless she blends it herself (or himself), or purchases custom, chances are you can find the oil. Did you smell any of the other candles by this company? Did any of them smell familiar?
  7. Another one bites the dust As far as addictions go, it's not so bad, eh? Maybe on the pocketbook..
  8. It might have cooled too fast? Did you insulate after? Or did you have your air on?
  9. I'm trying to think of where you'd use it... but I guess, maybe at work? Or on your PC? I guess if I were inclined to use an air freshener, I wouldn't do it that way.
  10. Always good to give your candles a power burn when testing them - like Brenda said, that's what the customers will do when they use them.
  11. For me, I loved learning the craft. Both candles and soaps. I'm a crafty person at heart, and enjoy making things by scratch. I get real satisfaction out of making items that are useful to the family, whether it is meals, knit items, candles, soaps, etc. I like creating with my hands. I also learned a lot about businesses and how they are run. Though I enjoy paperwork and the "office" end of business, I'm not a big fan of marketing (which isn't very helpful when you're running your own business). I don't like selling, either, but I knew that before. It has been interesting to see the swing of crafters looking to make items like (better!!!) than they've seen in stores, to seeing crafters come up with their own ideas and the Big Boys mimic the trends.
  12. What have you learned from being in the candle/soap/craft business? Whether you're selling, contemplating, or "retired" -- what have you learned through the experience of it? Would love to hear member's thoughts on business, life and how it may have changed you.
  13. LOL!!! I've been thinking the same thing. Although, honestly, it might serve me some good to do some crafty stuff around here.
  14. Oh my gosh. No. Please not another addiction. This looks like fun, I'm going to check out our Hobby Lobby for this. You guys got me inspired.
  15. My husband's cousin made a shower gift using baseball cards (his dad's a b-ball player) and a step stool. It was really cool - a great keepsake. Nice idea with the table.
  16. Anyone that would like to tackle that beast is welcome to
  17. Too fun. Now I saw you in the beginning of the clip, right? But where the "Nimble & Quick" link you are referring to?
  18. I hand cut. Occasionally I'd use a cutter, but I thoroughly enjoy cutting my soaps. I never did polish them.
  19. You sure did a fantastic job. How long does it take to make something like that? Did it take the whole 2 weeks?
  20. Hmm. Interesting. It is a paraffin coconut wax. Wonder how much is coconut.
  21. So glad you came and asked. People get scammed all the time with stuff like that. Interesting that laura9259 got the same one.
  22. I had one I would have like to but never did. She was very frustrating, always wanting to order and pay later. She very much concerned me that she would not pay - not out of malice, but out of being a total ditz. I'd always double-confirm her order, 'cause I never could quite tell if she was "with" me or not when she was ordering. Always bought a lot and was very happy, but... whoa.
