  1. Alrighty then. I guess those lotion bottle tops don't look so hot after all if they ship with pet hairs and unidentifiable dirty!
  2. I have both pyrex and anchor hocking and have not had any problems and I think it is because I don't melt my butters in the microwave much. I have been using the microwave more often now and I was concerned about exploding glass. So when I do use the microwave, I always leave the cup inside the microwave to let it cool off some before I start working in it and I only let it go in 30 second intervals like scrubzz said. I think the heat will break these items down in general over time and the key to their longevity is care in using them. So with that said I'd suggest that you use shorter times with a decent amount of cooling time in between to give the glass a rest. And remember the vibration from mixing inside the cup can make it crack too. Especially if you are using stainless steel spoons or whatever to mix with. Almost like when auto glass shatters in the summer usually from a combination of heat and force....kwim? I have also allowed my butters/oils to melt slowly on the stove top in a heavy, 18/10 ss pot with an aluminum sandwich bottom. These distribute the heat across the entire bottom of your pot better than regular flat bottomed cookware. When my stepdad passed last year, THE first things I went for of my Mom's was her 40 year old Pyrex, Corning Ware and her stainless steel Oneida serving pieces as I read somewhere that the older pieces were so much better than this stuff they sell now. And truely they are. So to those who are afraid after reading this thread, don't be. Just respect the glass and understand that when you add heat you make it weak. You just gotta let it cool some before using it and don't subject it to too much heat for an extended period of time. Great thread CBE!!!
  3. I am loving WSP's Pearberry! Yummmmmmmmy!!!
  4. You are correct...just wanted to get some feedback from those who own one....
  5. I have tried those jar liner thinga-ma-bobs from like 3 different suppliers and not matter what I do they will not keep a seal. So I thought I'd go looking for an inexpensive sealer and found that they are really not all that inexpensive. So, before I go spending this $$$$$, I was wondering if anyone here has one? If you have one, did it cost an arm and a leg? How is it working for you? TIA
  6. I have never used a multibase before, but the name implies that this base has multiple uses, meaning it can be used as lotion or butter, etc. The difference between ending with a lotion or a butter is determined by the amount of distilled water you add to the base. If you want to find out who makes it, contact the supplier and ask them...they should be able to tell you that. What I want you to do is, go back and read the lotionmaking 101 tutorial. Just do a search for it and it should come up at the end of the first page. This is just so you can get a feel for the process. And YES, YES, YES you must start with a sanitized environment AND you must use distilled water. It does your preservative no good if your product is not produced free of germs. For your water, you want to heat your water to 176 degrees and hold there for 20 minutes to kill any bacteria/germs that may be present. Did this base come with any written instructions from the manufacturer?
  7. Don't take any scent recommendations from this member. Suggestions are likely to turn into addictions as was the case with me....bad, bad Jennie!!!
  8. Ok ladies, don't shoot me....ok? My favorite is, of course, Peak's Pink Sugar. I can't help it, I love the smell AND the attention I get when I wear it. Where ever I go, I make sure I keep a couple of butters in my purse because I usually sell at least one when I go out to shoot pool or something. Others include: Escada's Tropical Punch from SOS Vera Wang's Princess from Sweet Cakes I am also debating on where to order Truly Pink, Lovespell & Issey Miyatke. Want to try those soon!
  9. I made some body butter in Sweet Cakes' Princess type. Smells wonderful and very much like the original.....until.....I got the idea to color it lavender. I tried to make lavender once with FD&C Red #40 and Blue #1 once the color was lavender but it was a flat looking lavender. I have these micas (both the FD&C drops and micas are from Peak's) 1 is pink and the other one is purple or lavender....I think. Anyhoo, I mixed it in my tester batch of butter and EGG CITY!!!! You can still smell the Princess in there but I smell eggs. Now there is nothing wrong with eggs, just don't want them in my body butter, kwim! Is there some sort of trick to these micas or am I putting them up for sale in the classy's?
  10. My hair is short, about mid ear and tapered in the back, and I even wear something on my head....sometimes a shower cap or skull type hat because my hair still drops from time to time.
  11. I don't like their system either Scented. All of the oils that I have purchased from them are Extreme strength and do well in application. But what I have been doing is when I place fo oil orders with other companies, I order little samples of oils that I have from SOS just to see if there is a difference. For example....SOS Pearberry smells good but the pear note is light....it was a free 1/2 oz sample. So I decided not to buy my fo from them, I went with WSP based on reviews and it is a dead on dupe of the BBW Pearberry. I think its silly that you have to pay SOS top dollar for fo that I can get from another company that's not only cheaper but of better quality. And then if I wanted to scent a candle, I still have to buy yet another type in order to use it in a candle because the cosmetic extreme grade is not recommended.....*sigh*
  12. *in baby whining voice*No I not. It was explained to me that Egyptian Musk comes in different types. The type that is similar to Egyptian Dragon is more of a perfume type and muskier (is that a word:confused: ). The Egyptian Musk that I like is typical of one that is found at a flea market, which is where I first smelled it. It is a much lighter scent, its kinda hard to describe but the two smell nothing alike. Kinda makes me wonder if one of them should not be named something else. The one I have from SOS smells nice but its just so light. I will likely order one from them and see if it does well in application.
  13. I did just that with the rest of them that I made. They would not set up either. The first batch was a lost cause. They were sticky as all get out! My little muffins were a gooey mess and they just kept growing. But now I know, don't make these when its raining! And probably not in the summer time either...
  14. I think that was part of it too. I was working with the kids this time and I probably did spray too much witch hazel. But man those things got BIG! And the more you pressed them the bigger they grew....the kids thought it was awesome!
  15. I think I've gotten a sample of Egyptian Dragon in a body butter once and I did not like it either, though I do not know the source of that particular fo. This Egyptian Musk that has been banished from my home was far worse than that though.
  16. I was just getting ready to post that yup it didn't work....still too soft. My first 10 batches must have been flukes:laugh2: or freaks of nature:confused: Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!
  17. I agree some Japanese calligraphy would look great in that logo with that Asian type floral design.....very classy indeed!
  18. I am soooo glad this has happened to someone else! OMG! I was doing so well up to this point. I do think its the environment...oh well....back to the drawing board!
  19. Well, it looks like I will have some sort of weird, gooey bath stuff for myself then...they are pink sugar scented....and they smell lovely, too lovely to throw away. I am going to try one more batch today and try not to add the witch hazel and see if they hold together if not, then I'll just have to wait until things dry out before I make anymore....thanks for the reply!
  20. I have made about 10 batches of bath bombs, I have had a few crack and for the most part I'd say those batches were about 95% successful with only a few to crack. It was usually the last ones into the mold that dried out and had to use more witch hazel and they either reacted or cracked. Anyhoo, its been raining here for about 3 days now. Now I will admit, I was running my mouth about the Deadskins game last week and I did add about an 1/8 c too much baking soda.....I put these things in the molds, and left them overnight. This morning they are gooey, and why in the heck are they rising? Like muffins I was like ok now I know thats not how I left them so of course I go back over and smush them down, go away 5 minutes comeback and they are bigger than they were when I came down this morning......and gooeyer (sp?). Do you think its the baking soda....or maybe too much witch hazel because I can barely see any citric acid? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Side note: I did unmold a couple and tried adding more corn starch & kaolin clay and they are still mushy....
  21. I think it says tense i no bi=tenseinobi???? Just a guess. If so, I thought it was cute and different. I like unique names that make you think....
  22. I LIKE that!!!! VEry spa-ish/upscale looking!
  23. I avoided opening this post all day because I just knew I'd be laughing until I cried. CBE, I used to call my friend eye candy so when I saw that one I lost my drinK! And corn-fed OMG .
