  1. Make it big....yeah ok. I will be making butters Thursday & Friday, I think *scratches head*. I can take some out for you then. It's not a problem.
  2. The lady responsible for all of this. How flattering is that? See, I am not a bad student, huh? I will send you some once the chaos of next week dies down and I can actually make it to the post office.
  3. 60% Water 24% Butters & Oils 6% Ewax 6% Stearic 2% Dry Flow 2% Fragrance 1% Preservative Thanks Soapbuddy....this is so much fun and my house smells real nice!
  4. Peak's sent a Red Clove sample with my last fo order. I hate cloves (long story, bit into one as a child)....it DEFINITELY smells like cloves...yuck!
  5. Thanks everyone! Tweaking recipes is expensive but my skin never felt so good! I found something else that doesn't bore me! This is a butter. I don't whip it anymore....that was the problem. I'd get way too much air in there and it would look not so nice. It's not quite as dense as I would like it to be but we can work on that. As for now, this ones a keeper! Ok, ok, ok....I'll think about it...how's that?
  6. I am so happy, I thought I would share. The scent is Vanilla Sandalwood from SOS. It is one of the few that I actually liked from them. I would love to have one in a Y***me dupe of Tahitian Tiare Flower, I've tried two and they were not even close.
  7. Now chandling is a bit different. I am still struggling with anything larger than a hex jar! But, that won't stop me from continuing to try and test. And really, b & b is easier than candles. And by the way there is no need to thank me. I'll say you're welcome when I come across that kick a$$ body butter in a swap!
  8. Waxwench, you can't think that way....seriously. And I am not blowing smoke here when I say, if you can cook and follow a recipe, you can make a body butter....a kick a$$ one at that:yes:! Oh and a good scale is important too! My first body butter, if you want to call it that, was a disaster. I did not have the benefit of this board then....that was 3 years ago. Then I was steered here by Jennie and figured out in a short time all the things I did wrong. This board is a wonderful place. Take a day or two, or do as I did, take many days and read. Soak up all the knowledge you can and try. I took a basic recipe and tweaked it until I came up with something I liked. I pulled many all nighters reading here and other places about recipes, about different oils/butters and how they would affect the outcome of your butter, how ewax & stearic contribute and how many parts of each will make your product stable. At first, none of it will make sense. But, the more you read, the more you have those awwww moments and it will all come together. It will make even more sense if you make batches and then you can apply what you see with what you've read. Yes, it does sound like a lot but the sense of accomplishment when you get the butter you want.....it is way better than awesome. And interestingly enough, the more you do on your own, and others see that you are seriously trying, when you start asking questions, you get better answers than if you just start asking expect people to drop the answers right in your lap. But you won't know what you can accomplish if you don't try....
  9. My understanding of bases is you can only add fo to them. If you are looking to add another oil or butter, you could disrupt the percentage balance of oil vs water and cause the base to break down or seperate. In some cases, like with butters for example, you'd have to heat them up. In this case, the heat could be harmful to the integrity of the preservative. The best place to find the answer to this is to contact KY directly and ask.
  10. I have too looked at Graceful Hosting when I decide to do a website of my own. One of the things that not only impresses me about Adam and the very reason why I will use Graceful Hosting is his age. I love when I see this in young people. That ambition and drive to work hard. You can tell he likes what he does...it shows on every site that I have been on that has 'Graceful Hosting' at the bottom of the page. Even though the owners have the majority of the design credit....the flow of these boards are just different to me and I can't really explain how they just are. So I can only attribute that to the one thing they all have in common....that is Adam. I have not had any exchanges with this young man, but I have read his posts and for someone his age, he has a lot going for himself. My only concern is that sometimes when people start off really well and things really take off, the quest to make more money can lead to other parts of the business suffering. Like say if you take on new employees, they are not vested in the company so being that this is a small business, you lose that personal touch. I just hope that Adam never allows his business to outgrow what he can handle. But from what I have seen, I think he is too smart for that. Way to go Adam and I look forward to doing business with you in 2009!

  13. Ok so maybe its just bad butter. I thought maybe it was me. I'll call them Monday but I don't know if they will do anything. I bought this in very late September to Early October....
  14. I don't know Scented....here is a pic. I don't think my camera picked up the black flecks really well but in some of the larger pieces you can see black flecks. Maybe its just a bad batch...i dunno....

  16. Well the label says its Kokum. Maybe they sent me the wrong stuff??? Nope not Monoi. I mean the smell is not stinky but its just a little nutty. I smell it in the lotion I made over my fragrance oil. No black flecks....I've made 3 batches of this particular lotion. The first two batches, I used the larger chunks that were on the top of the container and I saw those flecks so I fished it out with my spatula because it was pretty easy to get rid of. But the last batch, I used the finer pieces that were under the larger ones and no black flecks. I am so confused. Maybe there is something wrong with mine?:embarasse
  17. I purchased this butter from New Directions and it is REALLY fragrant....to the point you can still immediately identify it even with my strongest fo's. For those of you who use Kokum regularly, do you find that it is always like this? I also noticed these tiny black flecks in my oils/butters when I melt it down. These flecks usually rise with the bubbles and rest on the side of the pot so I can remove them easily. This only happens with Kokum butter. Is this normal? I have not used it from different suppliers yet but was just curious. TIA:D

It is really a shame that these people make a living scamming folks instead of working hard like everyone else to get what they want in life. These people make me want to lose my religion, ugh!
