I can't imagine this fo acting right in any application. It's just that bad. It smells like urine and flowers. I am sorry for such a gross description but thats all I can compare it to...other than my middle school history teacher!

I had no idea that one scent could have so many VERY different versions! I have a feeling that the one I ordered in this co op is going to be the same....ugh! I will likely order a larger size of SOS' version and test it some more and see how that goes. Thanks for the information!

Darbla, honey, pm me your info and for the price of shipping only, you can have this, this stuff. NO it's not going to grow on me, it smells that bad. It reminds me of the smell of my History teacher in the 6th grade. She had white/blue hair and she wore Estee Lauder Youth Dew or Chanel something and both of them smelled just as bad....it was a very long semester. Now the one from SOS is nice. It smells like the Egyptian Musk that I am used to, I used to buy the incense years ago before I discovered candles. It's just too light. Maybe I should bump up the % a little and see what happens:confused: My tester is in Extreme and its light. I will try it at 2% this time and see what happens. Hopefully it will work. Can you tell me, have you ever used it in b&b products? Now, I will say that this was not a totally wasted effort. I did like Princess & Amber Romance. Those were nice. Now the Sandalwood Vanilla, I like Vanilla Sandalwood from SOS better. Since the Sandalwood is the strongest all I smell is burning wood in that one. But thanks everyone for the comments. I thought maybe something was wrong with me, seriously. But this stuff, man I swear I can still smell it from Sunday.

Recently I purchased a sample of Egyptian Musk from WSP & SOS, but they were kinda weak OOB and in my butter so I went to FOF to see who else had one. Now out of all the scents I have looked for NONE of them claimed to be the world's greatest, except the one from Sweet Cakes. So I say to myself, self, this must be a good one, right? aHem...lemme just tell you, I am not one for being really negative about scents, BUT, when you throw out there that its the world's greatest....can you make sure it is? It smells nothing like any Egyptian Musk I've ever smelled. And whats worse, I remembered all those posts where they say that OOB is no judge of a scent....man it took me hours to get that smell off of my hands. Maybe its just me but does anyone else use this particular fo? Luckily I only bought an ounce but if anyone wants it, for the cost of shipping only, I will gladly give it away!

Now I am confused....this is cut and pasted from your other post.... I just started making homemade lotions and creams for personal use and give to friends. My first batches were used up quickly(I made smaller quantities ) Anyways, I got bigger jars on sale- I think 16 oz For the first time I had a very bad reaction when I used my lotion. It was oatmeal honey and had turned a yucky brown but I had that problem before and assumed it was because I didn't use a stablizer for the vanilla in it. However, I am now wondering if something had gone wrong with my body cream because I don't use preservatives either and this body cream has taken me over a month to use( I have several different scents) Questions: 1. Should I use a preservative and not even sure what to use or where to buy 2. Could my rash have been caused by mold or something from not using it? Thanks for any advise Now this post says you bought them....not trying to be smart but which one is it....did you make the lotion that gave you the rash or did you buy a base? There is a difference. If its a base, there should be preservative already in place, enough to cover the addition of fo added to the manufacturers recommendations. Contact the company you bought it from to find out exactly what can and what cannot be added to their base. If it is a homemade lotion, it has water in it, therefore, it needs to be preserved or the uglies will grow in your lotion. There are many preservatives out there and you should research to find out the preservative you are most comfortable with....

Well, I told her I was going to pitch it and they gave me an offer of 6% off of an online order...they currently offer 3% online. Although the flecks are not large and there aren't a bunch of them, I am just not ready to deal with unrefined products just yet. I am just getting my formulas down for butters and lotions, I just don't want the added headache of unrefined products....they are just too tempermental. I will start soaping really soon....as soon as I get some lye, can't find any local other than Rooto. Maybe I'll hold onto it until I start soaping and use it then. Thanks everybody!

I am testing each color in a butter recipe that I scraped that was uncolored. The culprit could be how I added it. I was adding the color in with my fo and all those morphed. But the one I colored after the preservative and fo was added and immediately put into a jar is still very pink. So I am thinking maybe the fo did it....who knows. I am going to use my liquid color from Peaks for the time being, which by the way, also changes colors from time to time, and just watch these Wilton colors to see if they can hold there color. Thanks everyone for their replies. I think I will likely invest in some BB colors after the holidays.

I understand. We have discrepencies in the nail industry like that too no harm done. Thanks for your honesty. I could not get TKB to come up either....does anybody know of any other colors that I could try? I really have overspent with start up and would hate to lose more money buying colors that just don't work. TIA

Scented, I just placed an order with Sweet Cakes for fo's...an experiment of sorts. Anyhoo, I was going to purchase some colorants and these are the colors that they suggest for bath & body and m & p soaps so I figured what's the harm? According to what I've read on the SC website, here and on other forums, most are saying that these colorants are the same as the ones the FDA ok's for skin? I tried it today while the color was still in the product and it did not stain or anything. ETA: as a matter of fact the thread I read was in the b & b gallery for parfaits... Can you tell me what TKB is? Can you give me the link?

I tried it in my butter and lotion and they both did the same thing. I can take pics...brb...

I tried this today and at first the colors are REALLY intense and vibrant. But after about 30 minutes, nothing. I added more color and it did the same thing. Is there a trick to using this or do I just need to use my boring color drops? Can someone please help me figure this out? Is it the fo? Is it me? Is it both?

Heres the response from NDA... We’ve just had a response from our supplier. They said that there is nothing wrong with the butter. They said if you have purchased Kokum butter elsewhere, it was probably refined and theirs is not. The refined would be bleached and filtered. Theirs, the unrefined, is all natural and that’s the way it comes. It’s not uniform throughout. The black pieces you found were chunks of the kokum nut. They said their other customers melt it down and filter it before use and it is absolutely fine. However, if you are not happy with this suggestion, please let me know. I will provide you with a return authorization number. We will reimburse or leave a credit on your account for the cost of the product, minus the return shipping. There would be no point in re-ordering as it would be the same product. New Directions has decided that if we get enough requests for the refined Kokum butter, we will do our best to bring it in, so please let me know if you’re interested in that also. Ok so do I keep it? I mean I am not going to use this stuff....its a little high maintenance for my preference.

My instructions....honestly....I used the instructions from the lotionmaking 101 tutorial. I read it about 20 times. It is really a great tutorial with excellent pics. Just change the ingredients so it applies to your butter, else you'll be making lotion instead:laugh2: . The one great thing in that tutorial is the instruction not to use a stand mixer but to use your stick blender. This is where I kept sabotaging my butters before by incorporating way too much air with the SM. I only use the SB to mix the water, additives and oils and then I put the pot in a sink of ice cold water and let it cool. Every 30 minutes, I scrape down the sides and hit it again with about 5 shots with the SB and walk away. I do this until it gets really thick...you soapers call that trace, I think. Once it drops under 90 degrees I add the preservative, cover it with a clean, white towel and leave it overnight. Sometimes if I did not have a towel, I just covered it with wax paper, only after it was at room temperature though. You would not want the wax to melt in your butter. Read that tutorial and give it a shot.

Thanks. And why can't you Scented? You can do it....I was struggling until I found Jennie and this board. I'm telling you my butter was less than, well I can't tell you what it was but it was awful. It went from disgustingly greasy to aired out to the point of seperation from just the air! You have to try....you can do it....I have faith in you! I am still working on candles too. See you can make those and I struggle at anything larger than a hex jar! But I am getting better with every new test candle....I can't give up, so you gotta try!

Socialite....I think a pale pink and as someone else said a designer dupe....Truly Pink or Ralph by Ralph Lauren....I also like the wine scent idea as well.
