  1. I eventually bought me two metal pour pots, they may be aluminum? The handle fell off one so I jbweld(ed) it back on. Now they must have hairline cracks because when I pour hot wax in them they ooze wax, tiny amount but enough to make it slimey and slippery. I put water in them to try to find the cracks, but NO water leaked out. Hot wax, starts leaking again! Is this repairable? I loved them. Now I am using a Pampered chef large batter bowl, which I love even more, now. But would like to put my pouring pots back to use. Any suggestions on fixing them or are they goners?
  2. oh okay, on my old scales i just mashed the on button and it did that! so that is what tare means.................thank you. I am having a hard time adjusting to the way these scales show oz. On my old ones I chose 1 1/4 oz for my oil per lb. On these I am choosing 1.3, I guess that is close to the same amount of oil. i am sure I will like it once i get use to it. Thank you all for the recommendation!
  3. I am looking at the places you both recommended.......what would my contact info say to direct someone to this site? would it be like my candlename@artfire.com or what? Also do you think I should go ahead and purchase a domain name, just in case I decide to go ahead and do a website in the future?
  4. Hi, I have a question for those of you who do this.......I have had several people tell me that they wish I had some type of "site" they could go to online to view my scents and products. I don't have a business type operation, I do batches of candles, melts, etc for various people thru out the year and of course more people want something during the holidays. I don't feel I have the time or ability to have an actual website. (maybe i don't know how easy it is, but it seems complicated). I have an email address, but like I said they want something where they can see a list of what I have and then tell me what they want. So many people prefer to do things online now days. What kind of thing could I do, that would be easy and simple for me to maintain? I heard people talk about facebook and etsy.........would that be something I could consider? Do you recommend anything? I know nothing about anything, so please advise me like your talking to a moron...lol
  5. okay, I bought those scales ya recommended (kd-7000?) on amazon. The basic weighing I figured out, but it came with no instruction booklet! I know this is silly to you all, but I have no idea what the "tare" button does!....? CAn someone explain?
  6. hmmm, can anyone comment on this? I have not smelled that one
  7. the mulled cider doesnt smell like it. I guess that orangey or pumpking or clove smell is whats different? I don[t smell any of those in mulled cider. Im not so good and knowing the "notes" however:confused: lol
  8. My head is swimming from information overload. Could someone who"s been there please tell me, a single starting point for registering a business name? I finally settled on a business name and I can't seem to stay in one direction. I seem to be making a big circle. As far as i can tell, the name is available, but I can't seem to find a stopping place. Do I contact my local ......?what am I contacting exactly? I want to make sure it is availble and then I want to do whatever i gotta do to start using it. Can someone give me a single starting place please? I will try to keep going from there.
  9. A couple of years ago, i bought an Autumn Spice Special from Bittercreek North. This was a limited clearance item for $10 for one pound bottle. I think. I have had so many people ask for it again and I cant find anything like it. I thought Amish Harvest would be the closest thing, but that is more like a cake or cookie smell(bakery) to me. Does anyone know where it came from or where I can get it now? I am in Ga, so I don't want to order so far anyway anymore.
  10. For the past 2 years I have used two sets of scales , ea purchased at Wal-Mart for $15? I can't remember for sure. OR was it $30? either way they are white cordless digital scales. Both eventually quit working properly, even with new batteries. I am no longer able to depend on the digital readout for a true measurement! This is scaring me because I don't know when it started happening and some of my batches could be incorrect! So far I have received no complaints, but who knows the damage that could have been done! I was wondering if someone could recommend some good scales. And where do I get them? I am willing to spend a fair amount to get a reliable set. I am a very small, non business, candle hobby type person, so I don't have call to spend $250 on scales, but surely there is something out there? I make batches from 1 to 3 lbs.

  12. yes please let us know your testing results! Also if you figure out what is hindering your scent throw, please let us know. I too worked with this wax and loved how you could pour hot. I used the eco and cd wicks. My concern was also the scent throw, I switched from 464 to 435 and have even more problems! lol. Cure time, quality or fo, wicks, and amount of fo all affected the scent throw, but there still seems to be a point I can't get past!
  13. 14. okay, thanks for your suggestions. It didn't narrow down anything, as I had hoped!!!! lol I guess that justifies me buying oils from every supplier I hear about and testing them............wow the cost! So fun, but amazing how fast you accumulate bottles and scents and expense. I keep trying to narrow it down to 15 good strong scents, but as i keep adding and testing I always seem to have about 35 going! Sigh.......well I guess I will try some from Southern and see if they work in my wax. The tip about my wax in search engine of fo, was good! Thanks I hadn't thought of that..............
  15. From my tests, I seem to have the opinion that oils from KY and TN are in about the same quality and price catagory. I like both. From my earlier tests, the oils from Bluegrass, did better in MY wax, but the price was higher. Also from my tests with the oils from *** the oils were weaker than the above mentioned but wouldn't you know, they have the better prices. The oils from Bittercreek are in there with the quality about level with the price range. Is this a pretty fair assumption..........that the quality is always going to higher with the higher priced oils? If that is so.........where would you range/rate the oils from Southern Garden Scents? I wanted to try their oils, but was a little throwed off by the price.........but since they are more expensive are they a better quality than the ones i mentioned above? I know this is opinions only and oils from different suppliers work different in different waxes! This are just MY findings with MY wax. Does anyone agree with me or think this is a reasonable summary?
  16. Thanks for the update! I loved their oils before and want to continue to try them. They seem to be a little more expensive than others I buy and i was wondering if the quality would justify the cost, so have been trying to keep up with posters who are testing their stuff.
  17. Okay so from what you are saying , the heat and humidity can affect the scent WHILE the candle is burning. But no one thinks it would affect the chemical process of me MAKING the candles? I test burn the candles in my house, which does have controlled air flow and my tests seem to be doing fine. However where I MAKE the candles (my garage) the temperature and humidity is NOT controlled. I mentioned that the ladies should try burning the candles in a room with the door closed and check the scent that way. I thought maybe they were burning the candles in a house with central heating/air and possibly to close to the return and maybe it was sucking the life out of the scent. The hotter it gets outside the more air conditioner units are kicking on for longer amounts of time, so the more that return is pulling air to recirculate, therefore creating constant drafts or air flow in the house. Hence spreading the scent over a larger and larger area therefore making it appear to be weaker? Does this sound possible?
  18. Now that the weather has gotten hot and humid, i suddenly had two people complain about the scent throw of the last candles they bought. It was a scent they buy repeatedly (two different scents) I didn't think I changed anything, since i pour in my garage and it is not temperature controlled, could this have affected my candles? If so HOW does humidity affect scent throw, i can't even guess how to test for that.........
  19. When I add the UV should I still be able to use the cd-10's? If I understood that other person.........it makes the wax harder? And once I add the UV I should stop adding the coconut oil, right? The chemical part of wax is what I don't understand....
  20. What is the temp to have the melt pool for good hot throw? Can you check it with a candy therm.?
  21. No, what I meant was.........when I first tested this 435(w/cottonseed oil) for the proper wick, the cd-10 wouldn't work. So I shoved it aside, made a note that it was to small and kept going. I eventually wicked the jars with a cd-16, then after I started adding coconut oil to my wax I went down to a cd-14. I don't have cd-12's at my supplier and since I had ruled out the cd-10's , i thought that was the best I could do. But it just now dawned on me that when I ruled out the cd-10's THERE WAS NO COCONUT OIL IN MY WAX. And now my wax DOES have coconut oil in it. Could the cd-10 now work? So I jerked out the wick I was testing(a cd-14, 1/2" melt pool, good hot throw, but burning up candle quickly) and replaced it with a cd-10. I did achieve full melt pool..................BUT by this time I had tested the candle to the halfway point, (with the cd-14)where it starts getting hotter,(before changing to the cd-10) so I am wondering it I go back and retest starting with a full jar, will it drown it out or catch up? Guess we will see........
