  1. Well, I did try wicking this wax with a familiar scent and wicks, no go.......that is why I tried so many other scents and wicks...... Sharon, a cd-14!? I can't get a cd 14 to stay lit, much less full melt pool............I just ordered some cd 18 and cd 20 to try! What am I doing wrong? I wait 48 hours after pouring before testing, only use 1oz per 1lb in scent, try lighting the wicks trimmed at 1/4" all the way up to 3/4" .....anything to get it to stay lit. Is there anything you can think of that could be causing this? 2-cd 10's in a 16oz mason jar stay lit, of course, but your talking major flame and huge melt pool. I have gotten an eco 16 to do good in the 16 oz,as well as a rrd 65 and a lx 30. But these are BIG wicks......please any advice. I don't want to go back to the 464 for this reason only..........because they say if I can get the hang of this wax I will love it on hot throw! That is the main thing my friends and family ask for..........they don't care about smooth tops or frost, etc. ( which 464 was better on)So if this wax will give me better hot throw than 464 i want to try it, but hey I gotta get in the ball park..........................
  2. I have been trying the 435, after always using the 464 and i am so out of heart!!! I have a pile of wicks that I have tried and nothing satisfies me. The ones I like the best so far are the eco....could someone help me? I am using the 435 in 16oz, 8oz and 4oz mason jars. various scents at 1ozper lb.....heating to 175, adding dye, then fo at 160, then pouring at 125....see any no no's? Can't even get it wicked good enough to know if I have good hot throw. Nothing seems to get good melt pool unless I double wick which is too much....1 inch melt pool. At least the eco's stay lit and they have decent melt pool with a eco 14 and a rrd 64 worked with one fo....why this wax so hard to work with? 464 was a breeze compared to this........................
  3. Oh and candlelady I love your buisness name! That could be spicy or downhome....goood name! Does handwrought sound too complicated? and what about "arcadian" ? In a round about way it means rustic or redneck.....but sounds better! lol!
  4. WOW..I really enjoyed ALL the posts! They were much more varied than I expected! I was mostly thinking of the technical part of using a name..........but once I ran the one I had decided on, I found it to be already in use....(Homespun Elegance)...so now ALL the suggestions are really coming in handy! Doneen, I really liked the suggestion for putting a "tag line" under the name.......that could really free me up. Thanks!!!! This was the one that really made me smile:yay: ............the suggestion from DonC about rain!!!!!!!! Anyone who knows me personally knows that is one of my favorite things! I NEVER thought about that in a name! That is so cool! (I'm to old to use the word cool....but "neat" sounded corny) I LOVE rain...rainy days....the smell....the sound....everything about it, except for maybe the mud. My hubby says he doesn't understand how days of gloomy rainy weather can cheer me up! lol! I love Gary Allen's song about rain also, DonC! I am gonna see how I can use that...........hmmmm....Here are some other considerations.......I like the fact of it being stated that it is rustic or handmade or homemade........However I do NOT like the cutesy country look......I would like to make some things look slightly elegant, but since I am most assurdedly a redneck., not too much so or I am afraid it will come off cheesy. I don't think I could do richy elegance if I HAD too! (My dad always said I walked like a plow girl) whatever that means. And I have a very bad drawl, even my hubby makes fun of me and he's from farther down south than me! I think its the mountain thing. So coming off too fancy sounding makes me feel like I am setting myself up for a laugh..... Hey did I just come up with a name.............." RUSTIC MOUNTAIN ELEGANCE"? RUSTIC MOUNTAIN ACCESSORIES? Ya keep this ideas coming.....I'm loving it!
  5. Hi I make and sell soy candles to friends and family. I also do upholstery jobs and other sewing. I dibble dabble in wreath and swag decor also. I even designed a rustic log bunk bed for my boys "deer" bedroom. I make a lot of things with my hands. This came from not having enough money to buy things, so I learned to make them! Anyway, over the years it has added up and I was considering having a buisness name for when I need it. Mostly for the candles and accents. How do I go about finding a name that no one else is using? Could someone tell me what exactly to search? I saw in threads people reccomending a trademark search.......how is this done? Thanks for any help. I just didn't want to start adding labels with a name on it only to find out I couldn't use it.
  6. I double my scent when I dip bears. Does anyone else here do that? Like instead of 1 oz per lb, I use 2 oz per lb.
  7. For anyone that has used chocolate or coffee in the past..........was 160 degrees too hot of a temp to add the fo? IS it possible to add it at a lower temp? (and it still blend properly?)should I try that before I try a smaller dose? ..........this is confusing me..........which would have more impact on the strength of the fo? It is still overpowering when you take the lid off the candle. Enough so that everyone I have let smell it, has withdrawn quickly......like it took their breath away. And remember, this was only 1oz fo per 1lb of wax. This combination is not usually overpowering. So would adding a smaller percentage of fo per lb be better than adding fo at a lower temp or vice versa?
  8. This IS the first time I have ever used a scent with chocolate or coffee scent so maybe it's just the scent. I've never had one be so overpowering! Yes carebear, the scent is still WOW in the cooled candle....i just checked. And the garage where I poured it is still overpowered with that smell when you walk in. It was like it consumed everything.(exploding smell is my best description) And after that I poured 2 other scents and you can't even smell those. I had two other scents I tried in the past (sweet patchouli and coconut lime verbena ) that were really strong to me when I poured them. Almost turned my stomach. But this was even different than that......this was "take your breath away" when you leaned close enough to stir it. Also that was incredible to me the way the scent CHANGED. Not even like the original smell..............THAT I had never had happen!
  9. I was adding chocolate cappacino to a thing of hot (160 degrees) 435 wax and when the scent got mixed in it was like the smell "exploded!" What I mean by that is ..........it got so strong it was gagging us....filled the room..AND the scent CHANGED when I added it to the wax! IN the bottle it had more of a coffee smell.......not much chocolate but after it hit that hot wax ALL you could smell was chocolate and not hardly any coffee. The longer I stood there and stirred the stonger it got.....it was to the point of being almost unbearable. I used the normal.......1oz. fo to 1 lb. 435 soy wax. I've never had this happen before and was wondering if that is a reaction for certain fo's? It nearly made me feel sick and even after washing I can't get the smell off me! Ever had this happen?
  10. Well I tried my 435 today...............one thing that drove me nuts was the waiting to pour at a cooler temp. With the 464 Icould pour as hot as 140, but usually waited till 125. I already can't remember what Jason said to pour the 435 at?......... I tried 125, 115 and less. I guess i will now see how different the wicking is than 464..............:tiptoe:
  11. I do mine caramel colored. But as everyone says........the smell reminds them of a "head" shop.......so the dark purple would probably be more legit! lol!
  12. well i bought some to try. will let you know what i think the difference is between 435 and 464. i am gonna try mixing them also......? I have tried calling jason at golden brands with my questions about 435.......no luck. I have called several times and he never answers the phone and when I leave a message he never returns my calls! What is the deal? I thought he was a great rep!? maybe I'm not saying the right thing? any suggestions? I would really like to know SOMETHING about this wax before I dive in.............
  13. meredean, did you try 464 as well? I really like 464 because its easy to work with. But your saying you still liked 435 better? One pour, nothing to add, etc.? I don't care about frosting.....I'm in hillybilly land and the only thing we care about is smell, smell, smell! I was told that 435 had a better scent throw than 464 but I was wondering if that was because you can add more fo? I don't want to have to add more fo to get good scent throw.........too wasteful it seems. I really appreciate your answer so quick. i gotta let them know by morning. That means only tonights posts will help me decide!!!!!
  14. I always use Golden Brand's 464, and found out today that my supplier is out of stock! Tomorrow was my last chance to pick up supplies before valentines. otherwise I will have to make another trip and gas.......Anyway, They suggested that I try 435. They said it is the same thing as 464 only with cottonseed oil added. I am nervous about trying something different at the last minute. how similiar are they? Anyone use 435?
  15. Okay, thanks. I am 2 hrs from Aztec and Alabaster. (but I didn't think Aztec sold 464) I am going to try a pick up for several cases and see how my gas comes out compared to shipping charges.
  16. Hmmm , well if 415 is ezsoy, maybe some of the ones listed as ezsoy advanced are 464? I am in north ga and can't find anyone close by who sells it listed as 464. The shipping is killing me and I hate to switch to a different soy after all my testing...................
  17. I was wondering if GW 464 is the same thing as ecosoy or ezsoy? or joywax? etc. Does anyone know if its called something else at other suppliers?
  18. I noticed the posting above showing some fo's from different suppliers that work good in soy............I was wanting to try some from alabaster.....does anyone have any yeas or nays about the ones listed? I will list them here again. Amish Harvest Bird of Paradise Birthday cake Blueberry Pie Grapefruit Mulled Cider Pomegranate Blackberry Rain Tangerine Dreams These were also suggested........frangelico strudal, vanilla grapefruit, guava, and lovespell..............what do you think? Also do they have a good vanilla?
  19. My hubby IS a plumbing contractor and if I poured it down the drain he would freak! He even gripes when he cleans out the shower drain and shows me all the hair. ( Mine is long) I told him I couldn't help any hair coming out while I was washing it! LOL! He says NEVER flush anything, not even tampax down the toilet. I told him they say they're flushable and he gives me a smoldering look and says " I don't care what they SAY, I'm constantly unstopping drains filled with them!" So the flushable/drainable options are very slim in my house! lol However............He WILL let me pour hot grease down the drain, if followed by scalding hot water and we've never had a stoppage! Go figure........Alot of it depends on how the house is plumbed....
  20. I am so confused at all the SURE advice i have gotten about when to add my fo in 464! I started out adding at 175, then was told NO NO your adding to high, add at 150. Then ...NO NO never add fo at 150, won't mix! Sigh so Now I am adding at 155 to 160 and according to the threads here that still isn't correct! Some help?.........
