  1. ahh here i am. (my old account), now to erase the other one......
  2. I was just considering the temp of the wax when poured, myself. When pouring a tester its usually at my whim. When pouring candles its usually when rushed. I normally add the fo at 170 to 180 degrees, but when rushed, I suspect sometimes it drops down to 160 by the time added. Do you think the wax need to be pretty hot for the fo to "mix" properly into the wax?
  3. Honeypot Honeybee Honey Blossoms Sweet Spring Sweet Summer Flowers n Bees Sweet Bee For me, flower names turn lots of people off, I myself dont smell of florals. Now true, some people come looking for florals, but they are not the majority. for me. I (who also do not like florals) would not smell of my wild honeysuckle candle if I was out shopping, but it does actually smell really good and very pleasant having it burning in my house. surprised myself. Therefore, i would sneak it in under something like "honey bee"..........floral haters wouldnt know what it was until they smelled it and might surprise theirself by liking it.................but that wasnt your question or point was it? sorry
  4. 464 was the easiest to work with. love being able to pour hot. but 464 scares me sometimes. I almost wish i woulda stayed with 435..............harder to work with but it seemed like more oils would work better. let it cure for 2 weeks and rarely had one that was worthless (other than vanilla, im a failure with vanilla's)weak sometimes yes, but not worthless............but with 464 those "worthless" ones seem to crop up more often.............yet here my lazy self still piddles with it..............just LOVE being able to pour hot (145 or 150 degrees)
  5. eco wicks didnt do good for me with this wax. cd's were good. I heard several say that cdn's were the best for this wax, but my supplier didnt sell them. course wicks are not a huge thing to ship..............gotta try those cdn's one day. Bluegrass oils worked the best of any oils I tried in this wax. ky was good too but they went out of business, tn worked good too. hit and miss with lot of other company's oils (some really good, some nothing) and im sure i havent tested half of whats out there. in my opinion 464 likes to cure for a while
  6. nope tiny house. I brought it home and put it in the bathroom, nothing....... Like i said, found an old tester of this scent in same wax, relit it and filled the living room...........doesnt make sense
  7. this was in a glass jar with a screw on lid. The friend burned 3 other candles, all made with 464 at the same time, and they all burned and smelled good. I found one of the coffee scent tester jars in my garage. It was a little under halfway full, with no lid on it. I lit it and it burned and smelled good! So its not the oil and its not the wax................all I can figure is that I used a cd-10 in one and a cd-8 in the other...............I cant find my notes. Do you think one wick size could change it that much? I had this happen years ago when I first started. It was with an oil from Bluegrass (Their oils are always great for me) so I don't think it was the oil..............Im wondering if it is my "making" process, like if it was stirred enough or something? This just doesn't make sense to me but scares me. Because you feel like you have a working formula for good candles and then something like this happens.............
  8. Hi all, I havent dropped by all year, been so busy with the remodel that I kinda set the candles aside. Had a curious thing happen to one of my candles. I tested a Coffee scent (maybe from natures garden) It was very strong filled my house each time and a testers house. Very satisfied so I put 1ozppd with a cd-10 or cd-8 gw464 in a couple of 8oz jj. This was around Easter or b4. Recently a friend wanted a candle to get her house smelling good for a bday party. So I gave her the coffee remembering how it filled my house. It did NOTHING. I thought she was exaggeratting and brought it back to my house and tested. NOTHING not even enough to fill a bathroom. HOw could it go from so strong to nothing? Ever had this happen to you?
  9. told you i was really slow about testing....... Lemon cheesecake. Very weak at first test so i set it aside. After 1 month I tried burning it again and it easily filled a bedroom size area! Weird, I guess its one of those that have to cure for a while (either that or its my wax-464) I just call this cheesecake cause its light on the lemon to me. Warm Vanilla Sugar: After 1 month of cure, tried burning again. Little stronger, it would fill a bathroom now but still not acceptable. Its a wonderful smell so atleast i can enjoy the melts maybe. No joke, for me to get a vanilla to half way smell in my wax, I gotta let cure for weeks! Fresh Linen: Dont like this as good as Alabasters, to perfumy for my tastes. Gonna try adding lime to get a "cleaner" smell...
  10. Oh I also forgot to add that Bluegrass has an awesome apple pie! And i am currently testing the one from Tennessee and it is more equally balanced than most. Apple, buttery(pie) and cinnamon. There seems to be an equal amount of all. I keep waiting for one to "come out" but if one does I would have to say its the cinnamon, ever so slightly.
  11. sounds like it could be similiar to an apple streusal type thing when mixed. Also I really like apples and maple bourbon too! It smells like an extra sweet mulled cider to me. Its one of my favorite scents. You can mix it with all kinds of things too. I mixed ti with pine at Christmas time and was suprised at how pleasant it was!
  12. For some weird reason most of the fo's I'm testing from Tennessee need to be wicked one size smaller than what I normally use. Hmmm, anyone else had that experience? Its no problem, I just find it curious
  13. this apple cider so close to the mulled cider from alabaster that unless I have them side by side I cant tell it apart. Also it is burning really strong so totally satisfied with using this.
  14. apple pie is really good and strong. It might not smell as "perfect" as the one from Bluegrass but its really good. im gonna use it. Warm and buttery with a pretty good kick of cinnamon. Not heavy on the buttery, I guess an equal balance of the apple, buttery and cinnamon. Usually apple pies are stronger in the "pie" smell and I add a little cinnamon myself but I wouldnt do that with this one, its got plenty of cinnamon.
  15. Oh ok, a ROLL of toilet paper. I was imagining you tearing off these little squares of toilet paper and dipping them........Ive dipped bears before and they last about one month of continous scent, then after that I can heat them with a hair dryer to "release" more scent. After a year they aint worth much more than a display. How does the toilet paper last?
  16. I just have to ask.......What is dipped toilet paper!?
  17. warm vanilla sugar: WHAT is my problem with vanilla's?! I never make a good vanilla candle and i have tried so many vanilla oils! This smells awesome, so awesome, so I will for sure use it for melts and probably mixing but its not working in my candle. Didnt even fill the bathroom. Any suggestions? I let it cure for 2 weeks.
  18. pink sugar........This ended up being awesome! I liked it so so out of the bottle, thought it was a little too perfumey for my tastes. But I really like it burning in a candle! and its strong. I put it in the living room and it filled that room, drifted thru a 5 ft doorway into my kitchen and down the hallway. It was too strong in the bedroom. So I will list this one as strong. It is sweet but with just enough richness to keep it from being sickenly sweet. Something in it makes you think of roasting marshmellows.... A keeper for me..... Strawberry cheesecake. This does not smell like cheesecake to me, so I am calling it strawberry kisses. Makes you think of artificial strawberry sweeteners, kinda like a snowcone. My kids love it. It fills a bedroom really good. When testing in the livingroom, it filled the living room and drifted somewhat into the kitchen. Not as strong as the pink sugar but somewhat stronger than a medium.......so Im gonna list this as med strong. However its still not the strawberry scent i was looking for. I want something that is strawberry as in the fruit.....
  19. I've never tried anything from Enchanted Lights! lol, dont tempt me to try yet ANOTHER supplier.......thats what this testing is for to try to narrow down my list of suppliers.........! lol! I let this set a few more days and then burned again. This time it filled the bedroom AND hallway.......I'm thinking this 464 wax really needs extra cure time to get a strong throw. Gonna test the pink sugar next I think......
  20. ok, I'm working on the lovespell first. So far its pretty much how I remembered it. A good smooth pleasant version of the lovespell. (I tested one from somewhere one time that had such a "wang" it made me cringe!)" Not what I call a strong scent, it doesnt fill the whole house but its nice to walk in the bedroom and its pretty good in there. So Im gonna list this as medium in the 464 wax. HOWEVER, it would probably be stronger if I let it sit for 2 weeks before testing. I waited 1 week.....
  21. i tried it in 464 wax with a cd wick, 8oz jj..........im thinking of starting over with it.......see if I made some obvious wrong calculation or something.................or maybe its one of those weird ones that needs ATLEAST 2 weeks to cure. I think I let it set for 5 days b4 testin
  22. 464 wax, 8oz jj, cd wicks Bacon..........this smells like bacon bits in the melts but when burning in a candle it is a more pleasant smell. Kinda like meat sizzling at a campsite fire. Either way this is a novelty fo in my opinion. We thought the guys would get a kick out of it, but..........it seems people just wanna talk about how gross the CT is. Ever now and then someone likes it..... Bermuda Triangle.......this is one of the best smelling fo I have smelled in a long time! Smells like you could drink it, a mango, etc fruit smoothie! But alas I cant seem to get it to work in my candles OR melts! How can something not work in melts??? Any suggestions? I even tried adding a touch of KY's super strong lemon cake and that just poofed out a smell for a short time then back to dead nothing.......Please give me some advice with this one. Its such a great scent but its so weak, I could barely even smell it in a bathroom...hmmm, gotta start all over and see if I can figure it out. And this bottle cost me the most............ Cinnamon Sticks..........Pretty good,I am not finished in candle testing. I dont think I ever tested a bad cinnamon from anywhere. Some may be better than others, but I dont think any have ever been bad for me.....Now vanilla on the other hand......................I couldnt even get KY's southern vanilla to be decent for me! I am a failure when it comes to vanilla!!!!!!! Fresh Brewed Coffee..........I thought I tested this and found it pretty good (med strong in candles) but i cant find my notes anywhere! It reminds me of ground coffee beans.....a coffee shop smell.....sometimes its almost like you can smell chocolate somewhere or something.....thats why it made me think of a coffee shop....but its not even close to a mocha....I dunno but I like it. i guess I will have to test it in candles again since I cant find my notes on it. Works in melts. I decided to call it Campfire Coffee because of the "something different" in there..... Wild Wild West............mmmmmm, this is a:wink2: "wink at the cute guy" scent! Totally smells like a guy's aftershave and then a final note of leather! I so got the whole cowboys of the wild west name. Medium HT for me but a pleasant smell so I use it. Its not weak, fills my bedroom but not the whole livingroom/kitchen area so thats why I say medium.
  23. when I first started testing her oils it was in the summer time and with the air conditioning going I got so so results. Then when fall came everything suddenly seemed to get alot stronger. weird huh. I cant figure out how that works, but something about my air conditioning completely discourages me from testing. I think that happened the year b4 too. So far the only one that I didnt like was Figgy Pear. I cant for the life of me figure out what it smells like but it is sickenly sweet! Maybe she will be able to start back up. The mint chocolate, fig & melon and redwood & cedar woulda been keepers for me........and I hadnt even tried a fifth of her stuff!.....................
  24. yes I do have my first (small )batch of NG scents that I have been testing....I will post the results in a seperate thread.....soon:) (im slow)
